A scotch egg should be considered a breakfast menu item

It's sausage and egg. How did it end up in the picnic category rather than the breakfast category?

After a long stressful day at work, this is where my mind is at. But I do think I'm right, it should be moved to the breakfast category with immediate effect. Perhaps even pushing avocados out to make room for it.

Strongly disagree. Its primary distinction is portability, which makes it firmly a picnic item.

However I’d happily push avocado out of all categories, breakfast or otherwise.

Halfblindbunny · 24/10/2024 21:20

Picnic category because it is easily transportable. But I think YABU to label foods anyway without asking them their preferred label first. Maybe some scotch eggs want to be picnic items and some breakfast items

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 24/10/2024 21:21

It is absolutely not a breakfast item.

BearyJBilge · 24/10/2024 21:21

Best post I’ve seen on here in ages. Genuinely thought provoking.

I see your logic - sausage and eggs are both breakfast territory. I’d also happily have one for breakfast.

That said, there’s something indisputably picnic about it.

Really difficult one.

Hollowvoice · 24/10/2024 21:22

It fits both breakfast and picnic. And also snack.

noworklifebalance · 24/10/2024 21:22

The question is… is it a substantial meal?

quirkyquerty · 24/10/2024 21:22

But why not? Sausage and eggs are accepted at breakfast as separate items, why not combined. Quite a good 'on the go breakfast, if portability is your concern. Scrap the cereal bars bring in the scotch eggs.

No, but neither are lots of 'quick' breakfasts

So really it is a food for if you are having a picnic breakfast?

What about sausage rolls?. The bastard love child of a sausage sarnie and a croissant

I think that went over your head - it was a tongue in cheek reference to a previous controversy.

Anyway, would love it if a scotch egg could also incorporate a hash brown

SallyForf · 24/10/2024 21:25

I think it is acceptable as a breakfast itemmmmmmmmm 😋

BMW6 · 24/10/2024 21:25

Hmm, I'd love Scotch Eggs for breakfast!

GrinGrinGrin Yes get them on the breakfast list. You have to choose a current breakfast item to eliminate to make space for them, though

@noworklifebalance it absolutely did. I'm a teacher crawling to half term I have only a few brain cells left

thistimelastweek · 24/10/2024 21:29

As a person who has soup for breakfast, I'm firmly in the camp of 'make your own rules'.
(Though I wouldn't have a scotch egg for breakfast. )

StillSmallVoice · 24/10/2024 21:31

I had to leave early for work this morning and didn't have time for breakfast, so got an egg mayo sandwich from Costa. It was just egg and bread. Definitely breakfast food, but it felt really weird.

choppolata · 24/10/2024 21:32

Vegan here - I demand a scotch avocado!!

IGotBigKidsAndICannotLie · 24/10/2024 21:33

I'm going to say, if you have it warm it's a breakfast food. If you have it cold, it's for picnic. The end.

<nods meaningfully>

Balloonhearts · 24/10/2024 21:33

I think it should be allowed to identify however it wants and its discrimination to say it can't be on the breakfast buffet. And don't deadname it.

JohnSt1 · 24/10/2024 21:35

I like chips for breakfast.

Bodeganights · 24/10/2024 21:35

Monsters the lot of you.

Leave my avocado alone.

I dont like scotch eggs so I might be a teeny tiny bit biased. But ya can punt them to the moon whatever meal they are.

Will now admit I never eat breakfast and go hide behind the sofa away from the fighting but keeping my avocados close.

DollopOfFun · 24/10/2024 21:37

Too much heft. It's a hefty food item, particularly if homemade. My own attempts at scotch eggs have resulted in sizes more akin to safety headwear rather than 'snack'.

Eastl · 24/10/2024 21:37

Ooh! Egg covered in hash brown then sausage meat and then breadcrumbs ala scotch egg. I think you’ve just discovered a new classic!

Eastl · 24/10/2024 21:38

And yes dollop mine too are enormous and escape from their sausage enrobement. A culinary challenge.
