Al Pacino’s toddler

bridgetreilly · 15/10/2024 22:38

Apparently Roman texts him all the time. At 15 months old.

And it’s fun for Al to be a new dad. He’s 84.

Nobody seems to have considered whether it’s fun for the kid.

AIBU to think this attitude should have died out years ago?

What attitude?

NuffSaidSam · 15/10/2024 22:45

The attitude that people have kids because they want them and not because they're in a position to be a good parent i.e. it's a selfish decision?

You're probably right, but if people did that the birth rate would absolutely plummet.

But maybe that's a good thing?

You could be on to something OP.

wheretoyougonow · 15/10/2024 22:48

It was such a weird interview. He seems to think he will live for a long time and be an active father.
His son must be incredibly advanced to be able to text him all the time. Hope he has the parenting settings on....

IdaPrentice · 15/10/2024 22:49

I feel sorry for the toddler, and do think it was a selfish decision. The child will be lucky to have a dad till age 15. Very unlikely his dad will be alive for his 21st birthday.

nocoolnamesleft · 15/10/2024 22:52

So he'd have to live to 101 to see his son through to his 18th birthday? Yep, selfish.

JMSA · 15/10/2024 22:55

I'm not sure if a texting toddler is something to boast about!

itsmylife7 · 15/10/2024 22:58

I can't believe a man would be so selfish to want to do this to a child.

BrokenWing · 15/10/2024 22:58

The kid is going to have a privileged upbringing and life, they might be a bit screwed up, but there are many more vulnerable kids out there facing bigger life challenges even with younger parents that I feel much more sympathy for!

purpleme12 · 15/10/2024 23:00

Wow she's age 30 and he's 84!!!

And yes I think it's totally wrong to have a child when he's that old

Lincoln24 · 15/10/2024 23:01

I don't believe he has a meaningful relationship with his son. The interview made it sound like they rarely (if ever?) see each other. On one hand that's sad, on the other it's the same for millions of children the world over.

As for attitudes dying out, it's extremely rare for men in their 80s to father children, I wouldn't say society is facing a major issue there.

minipie · 15/10/2024 23:04

It’s clear the child never sees him except through a screen. Child effectively has no father, possibly for the best given he won’t be around long. Very depressing.

TrishM80 · 15/10/2024 23:05

It's weird but that kid will have a better life than 99.99% of every other kid in the world so I'm sure he'll be OK.

I think I meant more the attitude of the article that this is something to celebrate, because the dad thinks it’s fun. I would hope that we have moved to a more child-centred approach.

I thought the backstory here was that he didn't really want a kid (unsurprisingly!). She's been out with other aged stars wanting to get pregnant and Al was the old fool who did the deed. The whole thing is so messed up. Poor kid.

Wherehasallthetimegone · 15/10/2024 23:12

I heard a clip of an interview with Pacino today. Until then I had been vaguely aware he had a new child but I hadn't quite realised the ages of him and the child's mother.
Having seen this thread I've just googled and seen a picture of them together. I know it's none of my business but it's really upset me seeing him, an old man, with someone who looks young enough to be his granddaughter. In fact she could be his great granddaughter. It just looks perverted.
And yes it is so so selfish fathering a child at that age.

Timelash · 15/10/2024 23:13

I don’t think this is of very great concern. The number of men fathering children in their 80s must be minuscule.

I think 80% of kids I know have a better life than his kid will. They have engaged dads who love them, are a major part of their life (not some weird person they see on a screen) and won't be dead before they are adults.
Money does not make you have a good life. Surely you know this?!

JMSA · 15/10/2024 23:17

Doesn't de Niro also have a baby?

Say hello… to my little friend!

AdviceNeeded2024 · 15/10/2024 23:21

I couldn’t imagine having sex with someone 54 years older 😵‍💫🤢

But yes I agree, selfish, the child will likely not make it to secondary school with his dad still being around.

tolerable · 15/10/2024 23:22

@TrishM80 .oops...still a quote tho....

Yes, and she also hid the pregnancy from him.

I don't think he's really the one who has been shitty in this.
