Al Pacino’s toddler

Apparently Roman texts him all the time. At 15 months old.

And it’s fun for Al to be a new dad. He’s 84.

Nobody seems to have considered whether it’s fun for the kid.

AIBU to think this attitude should have died out years ago?

You said 80% of kids you know. Why, do you know any Gazan or Lebanese kids being bombed by Israel?

Little Al junior is going to have a better life than them (if they even survive childhood that is), I won't be taking out my violin for him just yet!

So weird. Do you only have a limited amount of empathy? Can it only go to the people living the worst life? Can it not extend to people who have a shit or no relationship with one of their parents or do they have to live in a war zone?

MissTrip82 · 16/10/2024 23:21

I find it utterly bizarre that there are people who think there are unselfish reasons to have a child. I have never met anyone who didn’t really particularly care about having a child but felt unselfishly they could offer such a good life they should be unselfish towards a hypothetical future child and create it.

I also find it unlikely that faced with the choice of not existing, or being born to an elderly (albeit very rich) man that the child would ever choose non-existence.

Unfortunately many of us lose a parent or sibling even though they’re young…..as there are no guarantees in life.

I feel sorry for the toddler, and do think it was a selfish decision. The child will be lucky to have a dad till age 15. Very unlikely his dad will be alive for his 21st birthday.

Some children, don't ever have a father, he does a runner before the birth or shortly after so no I don't feel sorry for him.
He has a father. Nobody knows the future. Bust live in the present.

TrishM80 · 16/10/2024 07:27

Well, he could also have been born in a tent in Gaza or Lebanon under a barrage of Israeli bombs, so all in all he's pretty lucky.

There aren't unselfish reasons to have a child but there are degrees of selfishness, surely the expectation you'll at least live to see your child become an adult is the bare minimum of parenting?

You're basically saying kids would sell their parents to get their hands on their fortune. I suppose money is the be all and end all for some people like the woman who got knocked up so she'd be set for life. I doubt it was his idea, most men don't want kids anyway nevermind at 80. Yes I'm sure the child will be totally well-adjusted...

Personally I'd have chosen non-existence in this scenario.

EachandEveryone · 17/10/2024 04:21

DeNiro also has a toddler but he has many children I think his ex had one in her 50’s. However he is meant to be involved with all his children and step children from previous relationships. Most of them are adults now.

i don’t feel sorry for him, his mum knew what she was doing. Plenty of women choose to have a child alone, and plenty of women don’t have a nice inheritance to cushion the upbringing of their child which doubtless Al will provide.

I think Al is being quite responsible not forming a very close bond with the child. My mum died when my dc2 was 3 and my dc3 was absolutely devastated. I would spare a young child that pain and confusion if I could.

LunaNorth · 17/10/2024 05:07

Isn’t this really a woman choosing single motherhood, with the added benefit of millions of dollars and a secure future for her child?

Not saying it’s ideal, but I’ve seen plenty of posts on here encouraging women to go it alone.

Scorchio84 · 17/10/2024 05:09

Another one who fawns over their new kids.. "Best thing ever! forgetting the previous children he couldn't be there for

reeks of John Lennon with Julian & Sean

NotOneOfTheInCrowd · 17/10/2024 05:10

Let’s not pretend she had a child with him for any other reason than the money. After all I don’t see many 20 somethings having kids with the bloke who works down the local chippy, yet the aging rock stars/actors seem to have no problems finding a woman to father their umpteenth child.

It’s just grim on all sides.

DeeCeeCherry · 17/10/2024 05:17

For so many old men, the chance to get their hands on young firm flesh transcends common sense. I dont even want to picture that, even the idea of it makes me shudder. But this young woman choosing to sleep with a rich old fool has secured her future financially I guess, via the child. That's important to some. If he was was ordinary Al from next door he'd not get a look in would he.

Scorchio84 · 17/10/2024 05:24

@DeeCeeCherry exactly the way it is with my son, his dad takes massive offense "why wasn't he like that with me?"

Grandads have a different perspective nowadays, removed

WillowTit · 17/10/2024 05:25

charlie chaplin also famously fathered a child late in life - aged 73 so wiki tells me

It's not Al's fault, just when he thought he was out, she pulled him back in.

Well done!

https://www.hellomagazine.com/celebrities/724368/noor-alfallah-a-list-dating-history-al-pacino-split/

Noor can’t have been that skint and in need of a rich man to provide her with s child. According to this article she lives down the road from Al Pacino so she can’t be on skid row financially… unless it’s in a tent. NB Apparently homeless people were living in tents in certain areas of Hollywood Hills until recently.

She seems to have dated a fair few older men. I am just over 2 decades older than her and the only man, who’d be on my radar from that article due to his age only (if I were looking etc) would be Nicolas Burggruen. Why go for such men? I wonder what her childhood was like that she seeks such an age gap.

KimberleyClark · 17/10/2024 07:05

Farting · 15/10/2024 23:33

Well… there was a young woman involved, what about her part in this?

Yes, that’s the strange thing, plenty of criticism of old fathers on MN but never of the young women who get pregnant with them!

Ace56 · 17/10/2024 08:41

I don’t think this child will have a bad life at all. The choice his mother had made is questionable, but in reality she probably has lots of family so he is very loved, and obviously she’ll be getting lots of money from Pacino. When Pacino dies I’m sure it’ll all be given to his son, so the boy is set for life.
Yes the child might not have a real father figure but lots of kids don’t. And who knows, maybe he does as the mother has a new partner? She’s only 30.

EachandEveryone · 27/10/2024 18:00

Anyway Al Pacino Once upon a time in Hollywood is on the iplayer. What a fascinating man and career. He deffo had something was gorgeous and so talanted the child will be fine..

Justleaveitblankthen · 15/10/2024 23:27

Clooney's kids can top that. They were bilingual from being toddlers.
Or so he claims.

@Justleaveitblankthen

What do you mean by "or so he claims"?

2 of my grandchildren are bilingual and have been since they could speak. It's hardly unusual.

EachandEveryone · 27/10/2024 20:55

Pacino didn’t start having children until his mid 50’s and only has four (one lot of twins) so he’s obviously planned for them later in life

Kdubs1981 · 27/10/2024 21:00

@Justleaveitblankthen
When is it that you think toddlers in a bilingual household become bilingual? Confused

betterangels · 27/10/2024 21:02

itsmylife7 · 15/10/2024 22:58

I can't believe a man would be so selfish to want to do this to a child.

I can. Especially a mega rich one who wanted to avoid splitting assets with the mother. Didn't work out, though.

ToNiceWithSpice · 27/10/2024 21:13

She obviously has a thing for rich old men

Calliopespa · 27/10/2024 21:15

Lincoln24 · 15/10/2024 23:01

I don't believe he has a meaningful relationship with his son. The interview made it sound like they rarely (if ever?) see each other. On one hand that's sad, on the other it's the same for millions of children the world over.

As for attitudes dying out, it's extremely rare for men in their 80s to father children, I wouldn't say society is facing a major issue there.

If he genuinely believes his son can text I’m wondering if he’s even met him actually 🤷🏻‍♀️
