Pizza Hut Buffet

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 17:46

Posting here to hopefully get some quick answers.

So I will be going to Pizza Hut for the buffet, at the weekend with my child for one of her friend's parties.
There's a few of us going, and I've had a look online and at weekends it is 15.99 per adult and 10.99 for children !
I am absolutely not going to eat 15.99 worth of pizza! And I doubt my child will eat £11 worth.
Would I be unreasonable to just pay for my child and maybe have a slice of pizza or 2?
I know they charge different per head to stop this. But how do they police this ??
It's not a huge deal, but I would definitely like to know before I go, and like to know if other people do this or not ?
Thanks !

The grey area with Pizza Hut buffet is that it's all you can eat. So if the op has two slices of her kids plate who's to say the kid wouldn't t have had those extra two slices anyway? It's a buffet. It's not the same as running out without paying a bill.

Can't quite believe this is still going 😂

petathedragon · 15/10/2024 20:24

Get over yourself

2 slices?

Go hungry and full ya boots

£15.99? Jaysus, I remember when it was £7.99 and that really wasn’t that long ago!!!! 😱

I remember when it was a fiver and there was always a queue to get in

makemeanoffericantrefuse · 15/10/2024 20:28

Well, I don’t think you need to worry. There’s no way anyone is going to actually get one over Pizza Hut; they probably police it pretty strictly (but they possibly don’t take quite such offence at people trying to sneak a slice of pizza as some posters on here have).

This is the thing: the big, multinational company will make a huge profit out of the scheme. Of course they will. It is a massive rip-off for most people of normal appetite. I get that that still doesn’t actually give anyone the right to flout the rules (before another keyboard warrior descends), but some people were carrying on as if OP was planning on robbing a little old lady. And then pretending that it’s all the same because ‘stealing is stealing’. Anyone with half a brain can see that sneaking a slice of pizza in an all-you-can-eat scenario is very different from actually lifting stuff from someone’s bag. But they pretend not to be able to so they can look down on someone else and be ‘right’ to do so.

There’s just no need to get all upset on PH’s behalf. They’ll be fine.

Ok. I'm not worried.
I'm disappointed in myself I've got pulled into engaging with this ridiculous thread again when the poster is clearly BVU.

Character is what you do when no one is watching.

It doesn't matter if one is stealing from "a big multinational corporation" or a little old lady. One is still a thief, all the same. What a tacky thing to model for one's child.

It's like that old anecdote about prostitution. "Oh, we've already established what you are, Mrs. Smith. Now we're just haggling about the price."

Very profound, I’m sure.

I would be utterly mortified if someone at the table with me did what you are suggesting and tried to take buffet food without paying. Please do not put the rest of your party in this position.

Laura95167 · 15/10/2024 22:26

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 17:50

Well that's rude 🤣 I can definitely afford to go, otherwise I wouldn't be going..
it's not embarrassing either. All I'd eat is a slice or 2 of pizza, and I don't think £15.99 is justifiable for that amount. But about say 5/6 slices between us is definitely more so the £11 mark.
How do they police this ? Do they have a staff member to watch each table ?? 😆

Most buffets usually have a policy where everyone not ordering an individual meal will be charged for the buffet because this isn't a radical new idea you've come up with.

Those are the restaurants prices, don't like them? Don't eat there. You're asking how you can steal and get away with it and laughing at people pointing out how ridiculous that is.

You wouldn't go to Tesco and open a bag of chicken nuggets and help yourself to half a dozen because £5 for 44 is unreasonable when you only wanted 6 and ask how they'd know.

It's fine if you think £15.99 is too expensive for pizza, in that case don't have any. But on the buffet its £15.99 if you have 1 slice or 16 slices. Either pay for what you want or don't eat there.

Laura95167 · 15/10/2024 22:30

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 17:55

Steal pizza ?? Jesus Christ 😂

Suggesting you eat a slice or two and not pay for them is stealing.

Laura95167 · 15/10/2024 22:35

Healingsfall · 14/10/2024 18:01

Could you just buy the buffet food then take home slices you don't eat? That way you might not feel so ripped off?

If you order a whole pizza you can take it home if its unfinished, you can't take buffet food away. It's AYCE, any you can't eat you can't take with you

Maybe so. Is it so wrong to think the price of something is too high to justify, in this day and age ?? I don't think so. If that's entitled, so be it.

It isn't entitled to think the price is too high.

It's entitled to think you can refuse to pay the price and eat the food anyway.

Because it is embarrassing to be associated with a thieving freeloader who thinks it's funny

IAKnowyou · 15/10/2024 23:14

@ThornVampire in this day and age I really don't think it's that big of a deal. Unless Pizza Hut is actually your small business, and my seemingly horrendous actions are going to put you out of pocket until the end of time.

It doesn't matter where you do it - that's the point that you are so spectacularly missing.

It's not funny and a bit cheeky, it's theft. You knock yourself out trying to justify it because you think it's funny, but really it's not

A lot more people than the owners rely on company’s to succeed - the employees for one. Your attitude shows very little care towards them with your hey it’s a big business doesn’t matter if I steal from them attitude.
Pizza Hut has made losses in the uk in recent years and is struggling.
lets hope your pension fund hasn’t invested in them.

My partner feels no embarrassment with things, I do. This is exactly it.

You know what, just eat the pizza, get your self embarrassed on the day, you obviously don't understand how bad it is to do that

BernardBlacksBreakfastWine · 16/10/2024 06:17

At the risk of repeating myself, I still don’t quite understand why so many posters are so upset about poor old PH having to step in and stop OP misusing the buffet system, or why they’re so angry about the idea of OP embarrassing herself. Just doesn’t make sense for people to be so cross with/rude to OP. Pizza Hut will get its money and all will be well; no need to be crying about people’s pension funds being tied up in PH or whatever (🤷‍♀️).

Or perhaps it does make sense once you understand that many people are only here to enjoy kicking an OP 🤔

As someone posted a little while ago, the buffet is £16 (or whatever it is) whether you eat 1 slice or 20 slices. Yes, that’s true and that does show that OP’s premise is wrong; she can’t technically do what she proposed. But that buffet system is a cynical marketing ploy. Barely anyone actually gets their money’s worth. Are we now all suddenly and wholeheartedly on the side of sly marketing techniques? Can we not briefly sympathise with OP and say “Ah yes, it’s rubbish isn’t it - you’ll be out of pocket but unfortunately you can’t beat the system if that’s the chosen birthday venue 🤷‍♀️”. Apparently not. We have to find fifty different ways of calling OP a thief and an embarrassment. Nice.

But I have paid. If you want to get political. It's paid for. By ME. I'm not making a 5 year old pay for herself and scrounging off of her plate.
Forgive me for being naive and thinking this wouldn't be a problem.
It appears I was incredibly wrong, and have now started pizzagate #2

YABU pay for yourself or don’t go it’s not on you to decide if the value of what your DD will or won’t eat justifies you eating some of her meal.

CanelliniBeans · 16/10/2024 06:45

It's stealing. Don't do it. Either don't go, order something else or pay the full price and have the buffet.

StormingNorman · 16/10/2024 08:09

Go and eat your daughter’s pizza. Despite hundreds of comments telling you this is embarrassing behaviour, you’re holding your ground.

Have fun and enjoy the shocked faces for the other parents.

The buffet is a choice. If you don't think it's value for money, then don't have it. There are other options, which have been done to death.

As I said previously, it is not relevant what or where the op is planning to steal, it's just she is planning to steal

Well, let’s gleefully hope one of the other mothers calls the police because I’m sure they will be absolutely delighted with such vital intelligence of a crime being passed on, I’m sure they’ll definitely be turning up for that one. 🙄

However, back in the real world no mum I know would think twice about another mum having a slice of pizza off their child’s plate because why would you go out of your way to publicly make yourself look like a busybody prat trying to police Pizza huts’ terms and conditions? If she were to have an entire plate of food and be digging in at the salad bar for good measure then yeah absolutely that’s wrong and unfair but that’s not what the OP is alluding to. All this talk of shocked and horrified faces, what a load of snobbish nonsense.

I wouldn’t be friends with someone who indignantly protests that someone is a thief for eating a slice of pizza a child has left on their plate which inevitably happens to a lot of children which will be factored into the overall price of the buffet already. If someone tried to derail my child’s party by announcing that a parent was a thief for doing this or tried to make a scene over it I would be absolutely livid and other people would be mortified as well. People can say the actions of the OP are shocking and embarrassing but that would be a million times worse. People just don’t behave like that in real life, I refuse to believe any such notion of it. Pizza Hut will no doubt be more than aware that people will be trying to take stuff home etc and will step in if they are so mortally wounded by the OPs actions.
