To think this was disgusting behaviour

Driving down a residential road, 2 lads about 16/17 stroll out in front of me, headphones in, clearly not paying attention to the road. I obviously slow right down and beep loudly to alert them, they barely respond or look up but I see them smirk at each other. Next thing, I hear an incredibly loud shout of, "fuck off!!", look briefly to my left to see a teenage girl of about the same age gesturing at me and shouting profanities. I mean, was that hugely necessary? Absolutely disgusting behaviour. I have a 17 year old daughter and if she behaved that way I'd disown her! What is wrong with some young people today?!

Slow news day?

rudeteenager · 02/10/2024 12:39

Sorry, should have added that she seemed to be standing waiting for them to cross over to her, so she clearly (bizarrely) took some form of offence from me beeping at THEM for walking out in front of me 🙄

I'd be cringing with embarrassment if that was my daughter.

🙄

And yet you felt the need to comment 😂

Next time just mow them down, reverse the car, mow her down too.
That’ll larn ‘em..

mbosnz · 02/10/2024 12:41

Well, it's definitely not great. I wouldn't be disowning my daughter if I caught her doing this, but I would be banging on in long and tedious detail why she shouldn't do this until she promised she'd seen the error of her ways, and begged me to stop. Or better yet, made her ring her grandmother, tell her grandmother what she'd done, and let her grandmother rip. . .

takealettermsjones · 02/10/2024 12:41

Aren't we past the "youth of today" schtick yet?

Aren't we past the "youth of today" schtick yet?

It's the gift that keeps on giving - from Ancient Roman times to infinity and beyond. . .

ghostyslovesheets · 02/10/2024 12:42

I did 😂

rudeteenager · 02/10/2024 12:45

Honestly that was absolutely disgusting behaviour, I had my windows up and my music on and yet still heard her shouting profanities at me, so that's how loud she was. Pleased I didn't have my toddler in the car. Like I say this isn't anything to do with "the youth of today",🙄, most teenage girls are lovely, including my own and her lovely friendship group. This was something else, and so uncalled for. I wasn't even beeping at her for a start - it had nothing to do with her!

OP posts:
rudeteenager · 02/10/2024 12:46

Ironic that the lads I was beeping at who almost got themselves run over didn't even seem to give a shit or react at all, so what was she getting involved for so aggressively? 🙄

OP posts:
rudeteenager · 02/10/2024 12:47

So many people on here who'd apparently be absolutely fine with being told aggressively to "fuck off" and having a gesture waved at them by a random teen in the street. Eye opening ...

Sadly good manners are not taught much these days. Blame the parents.

This was my first thought actually.

As for the girl, she sounds a delight!

the youth of today.... you didnt nearly run them down, because you slowed down when you saw them, and because they didn't get out of your way quick enough you gave them a swift 'beep' of your horn.

as shitty as it is, this is what kids are like, and you have no idea what your 17 year old child gets up to when you are not arround.

don't waste anymore energy on it.. find something else to worry about

I get it op, it's not the worst of happenings but still just a bit rude and unnecessary! To be honest I'd have been tempted to swear back but that's probably a reflection on me 😂

notacooldad · 02/10/2024 12:54

I had similar in Ashton last year. The lights turned to green and I started to pull away and a young woman walked out put her hands on my bonnett and said ' just wait a fuckin minute bitch" I wound the window down and just ' how about no'. I was out of gear but reved the engine. She nearly shit herself thinking I was going to run her over ( of course I wasnt) and ran off giving me the middle finger.
I drove away thinking what was all that about.
It wasn't a crossing. The lights were already on green when she ran out.
I just put it down to her being a div.

Sodthebloodymealplan · 02/10/2024 12:56

Not fine with it, but wouldn't let it impact me longer than I could see her in my rear view mirror.
She is probably in the 'cool girl' phase of teenagedom and trying to impress the boys.

Seeline · 02/10/2024 12:56

Well technically under the recent changes to the highway code, it was their right of way. You had no reason to toot your horn at them. Your priority was to slow down to avoid hitting them, which you did. No need to hoot at all.

Cas112 · 02/10/2024 12:57

Ahh bloody hell OP, there is people of all ages that probably would act like this

A form of pea-henning?

Auburngal · 02/10/2024 13:00

To drive to my parents, I go down a service road and their home is at the end of the service road, which bends off to the left to a cul de sac. Plus there are side roads which takes to roughly 300 homes.

Now frequently, there are teens on bikes doing wheelies on them in the middle of the road. They behave like the teens in the OP.

Yet there is a massive park on the other side of the 300 homes. Do your bloody wheelies there instead.

Then down my road, have about 6 teens play football on the street. Yelling fuck off to those who drive on the road. There is a park (different one to above) where they can play football a 5 min walk and can play better without damaging cars etc.

Blinkii · 02/10/2024 13:01

You didn't really need to beep though, so your beeping was matched with a fuck off. Sounds fair 🤣

Maybe the teenager didn't look inside the car at the driver? If I was beeped by a random car (or at least believed that it was directed at me) I'd react in the same way. Presumably she expected the beep to be followed by catcalling, as is the unfortunate experience of many teenaged girls.

rudeteenager · 02/10/2024 13:03

Sorry, what? 😂
You'd scream "fuck off!!" at full volume and gesture with your hands, if you heard an unexpected beep of a horn? 😳
