Please recommend antiperspirant for extremely smelly armpits before period

As the title says. I'm perimenopausal and some months I am so smelly under my armpits just before my period or during the first couple of days. I smell like a zoo and I feel it lingers no matter what I do. I can't get it out of my nose and I think I just smell all the time.

Beggars can't be choosers but please recommend something that doesn't stain clothes AND solves my problem. Please! I can't be amongst people like that.

Mitchum?

Scutterbug · 26/09/2024 23:25

I use Mitchum roll on.

Perimenoanti · 26/09/2024 23:26

Got this but it stains my clothes. I find it sticky too.

I use the pink roll on from Lidl btw. It was fine for a few months but I just smell now.

Do people change their brand regularly or what. Or do I just have developed BO.

I tried Mitchum but it stained my clothes so badly, too.

I'm on the dove stick cream at the moment which is really good. I'd found that I was starting to feel smellier and the stick cream ones seem to work a lot better than roll on or sprays.

Odaban

Popadomorbread · 26/09/2024 23:30

AKT The Deodrant Balm. Completely changed my life. I am in a very active job and would have quite sour smelling pits at times. This is so gentle, yet smells amazing and I feel a sweat so much less. Pricey but worth it, especially if you are just going to use it at certain times of the month.

Mamai100 · 26/09/2024 23:30

Apparently The Ordinary 7% Glycolic acid is great for this. It doesn't stop you sweating but removes the smell completely. My friend swears by it but I've seen it recommended online for this.

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 26/09/2024 23:31

Try Salt of The Earth

Use Hibiscrub neat on dry skin, leave for a minute before showering too

melisma · 26/09/2024 23:32

Are you sure it's not parosmia/a heightened sense of smell? This can often come hand in hand with perimenopause and menopause...(sorry I know that's not what you are asking specifically).

I use Polarwise, it's one you apply before bed. I've always been sweaty but I would really recommend it, I now wear clothes I never would have risked before. I only tend to put it on once a week, the night before my office day! By day 4 I am probably a bit smelly in the morning before I shower, but not during the day. So I might use it again after 4+ days, depends on my social life. Hope that helps!

Ineedaholidayyyy · 26/09/2024 23:33

Dove stick cream for me too, it can leave marks but it's the only thing that keeps me dry and not smelling.

liquid roll ons or sprays have never helped!

Edited

Well, it's possible but how do I know?

I did actually sniff my t shirt yesterday before I hopped into the shower and it wasn't too bad. But I think my pits smell.

What works best for me is men's deodorant. I use my husband's! Gillette gel. It's way more effective than any women's deodorant including Mitchum

Perimenoanti · 26/09/2024 23:36

@effie19 so this stays on a few days even if you shower daily?

OP posts:
Perimenoanti · 26/09/2024 23:37

@puppyparent does it have the men's smell? I can't stand male deodorant. Maybe I should browse and see if some smell less bad.

This stings me for some reason. You're not supposed to use it after shaving but even without it irritates me. I have seen others swear by it too.

BruceAndNosh · 26/09/2024 23:39

What are you washing your pits with? Shower gel is no good, you need proper old fashioned soap. (not Dove)

wanttokickoffbutcant · 26/09/2024 23:40

Have you used the Mitchum powder stick one? I use one that smells like washing powder and it also helps with sweating.

slaybell · 26/09/2024 23:44

Mitchum ultimate and apply it before bed

Then spray with deodorant (not anti perspirant) in the morning.

Perimenoanti · 26/09/2024 23:51

@BruceAndNosh I use the simple brand shower gel as my other issue is sensitive skin. Would love to use a nice soap but it makes me itchy and my skin dry.

OP posts:
Perimenoanti · 26/09/2024 23:52

@wanttokickoffbutcant does this leave stains?

OP posts:
Woahbodyforrrrm · 26/09/2024 23:55

I had this exact problem when I was pregnant. I tried and tested lots of products but hands down, the Perspirex roll on came out on top. It's absolutely brilliant.

I see you have sensitive pits so if you go for it, get the sensitive one (and don't use it on freshly shaved skin).

I also use a bar of soap before finishing with shower gel to break down any sweat. It could be worth trying some of the lush soap bars as they should be more gentle on your skin. If you go in and explain about your sensitive arm pits, they may give you a small sample to try out.

Ginkeepsmesane · 26/09/2024 23:56

Sure maximum protection. The blue one with the X3 on it.
I have sensitive skin and found this was the only one that didn't irritate me. I've also had to cut out caffeine as found that was a trigger for smelling like used boxing gloves 🫣

ZiggyZowie · 27/09/2024 00:03

I use a men's one

Lynx Africa stick

It's not wet like a roll on and it works really well.

BigLicks · 27/09/2024 00:22

I use a sanex roll-on but give my pits a clean with witch hazel when very hormonal.
