Please recommend antiperspirant for extremely smelly armpits before period

As the title says. I'm perimenopausal and some months I am so smelly under my armpits just before my period or during the first couple of days. I smell like a zoo and I feel it lingers no matter what I do. I can't get it out of my nose and I think I just smell all the time.

Beggars can't be choosers but please recommend something that doesn't stain clothes AND solves my problem. Please! I can't be amongst people like that.

Do you get a brand called Lume in the UK? It's very good.

Edited to add website

@Perimenoanti unfortunately the men's deodorant tends to have a pretty distinct man smell which isn't ideal I guess but it's still better than BO and you can also mask it with your own lovely perfume

Triple dry works for me

BananaGrapeMelon · 27/09/2024 06:47

i had this issue and switched to Sure.

broccolienthusiast · 27/09/2024 06:58

Wild is great

dementedpixie · 27/09/2024 07:07

Sure maximum cream thats sold in a box

effie19 · 27/09/2024 07:27

@Perimenoanti yes you put it on at night and let it dry then wash as normal in the morning. It doesn't really have a smell so I put deodorant or body spray on during the day as it feels a bit weird to do nothing!

Pushkinia · 27/09/2024 07:29

Perspirex works for me. It comes in 2 strengths - I use the strong one usually. Apply at night and wash off in the morning. I only have to apply it once a week.

Second this, put it on at night

Simple Shower Gel probably isn’t getting rid of the smell. Can you use soap just for your under arms?

I always double up on deodorant - so use a roll on/stick let that try and then an aerosol on top.

Sgtmajormummy · 27/09/2024 07:45

Perspirex.
It’s expensive, and the first day you might get itchy armpits, but it works.
Peace of mind is priceless.

With regards staining, I think it helps to make sure its really dry before putting on clothes, even using blow drier on a cool setting to help. I've found this makes them all more effective, and less likely to stain.

SillyMe2345 · 27/09/2024 07:58

Sounds weird, but acne face wash with benzoyl peroxide will help

StaySpicy · 27/09/2024 08:01

Driclor.

AKT The Deodrant Balm. Completely changed my life. I am in a very active job and would have quite sour smelling pits at times. This is so gentle, yet smells amazing and I feel a sweat so much less. Pricey but worth it, especially if you are just going to use it at certain times of the month.

I couldn't agree more with this.
Before finding AKT I tried loads of options that claimed to keep me stink free for varying periods of time. Everything failed and all I ended up with was a cupboard full of plastic waste.
PITROK is also very good but i always found the application a bit of a faff.

You need antibacterial soap first. Once you have washed and dried rub in antibacterial hand gel before antiperspirant. It works in the few days before my period when I am whiffy.

Great advise. Do you mean hand sanitizer?

Use Cereve SA face/body wash on your armpits. The SA stands for salycilic acid, which kills the bacteria that caused the odour. Similar to the glycolic acid mentioned up thread but without any stinging. However, you may find that there is odour in your clothes as 40° washes won't truly remove bo smells, once the detergent smell wears away and the clothes heat up on your body, the smell well come back. It's always worth adding white vinegar to your laundry and running it at 60° every few months to make sure any built up odour is actually removed.

Albertabeech · 27/09/2024 08:22

Whatever brand you decide to use, use the roll on first and then the spray anti perspirant. On really hot days I do that and when I get home I still smell of deodorant.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 27/09/2024 08:28

I use Mitchum roll on. It works for me where very little else does and doesn't stain my clothes. BUT I do ensure it has dried before I get dressed. I apply and then go back to bed and lie with my arms up (outside the duvet of course!) until they dry. I find the previous evening's episode of The Archers is just the right length of time!

Yep. It just rubs in and kills bacteria and if you get a nice smelling one it helps.

Amoriamo · 27/09/2024 08:41

I became allergic to all antiperspirant and then found The ordinary Glycolic Acid, it works well, also taking a peppermint oil capsule every day helps with general body odour.

outforawalkbiatch · 27/09/2024 08:41

Oh yeah and dettol soap helps too with a flannel or something to shift the old antiperspirant

MorrisZapp · 27/09/2024 08:42

Botox under the arms switches the smell off completely and lasts for months and months. Saved all my nice blouses 😊
