Please recommend antiperspirant for extremely smelly armpits before period

As the title says. I'm perimenopausal and some months I am so smelly under my armpits just before my period or during the first couple of days. I smell like a zoo and I feel it lingers no matter what I do. I can't get it out of my nose and I think I just smell all the time.

Beggars can't be choosers but please recommend something that doesn't stain clothes AND solves my problem. Please! I can't be amongst people like that.

I've had a similar problem but it was extreme sweating, like mulchy boggy pits! I tried all the usual, mitchum etc but the best thing I've tried and stuck with, is Sweatguard. Its expensive (£20-ish) and a roll on but you don't need much and it actually works. The annoying thing besides price is having to let it dry before dressing but to be honest the price and the inconvinience doesn't matter if something actually works...which this does.

Try Shield soap for washing. I like Sure non stop protect. Supposed to last 72 hours but I wash everyday so never needs to last anywhere near that long, I just assume it does the job well between washes.

Dove Maximum Protection is excellent - never used a deodorant that actually worked until that one, definitely worth a try.

Thanks all. I'm glad for so many tips to sort this out. I feel embarrased now that I may not have been 'washing my pits properly' due to using weak shower gel. I will try the soap tip first as I have some nice l'occitane one at home and see what happens. Then shop for something else and a new deodorant for when I get my period.

I do sweat more around my period, but mainly my head is just hot and sweaty. I don't get wet armpits. I think I sweat normally there. It's just that it's so stinky around by period.

Bar soap, never shower gel
Sure cream, the one you turn the bottom and the cream comes up through the little holes.

Kiuyni · 27/09/2024 09:15

And it has to be proper soap, not Dove cream bar.

SillyMe2345 · 27/09/2024 09:17

Yes, it'll stain your clothes, just use it in the shower!! Leave on for a few mins then wash off

I've been using lush aromaco for donkey's years now. Not an antiperspirant but I feel less sticky and sweaty with it than I did with sprays or roll ons, even in peri.

DoTheRoary · 27/09/2024 09:18

Agree with @broccolienthusiast about Wild deodorant. It doesn't stop the sweating so much but no smell whatsoever!

minipie · 27/09/2024 09:24

Yes to Dove or Sure Maximum Protection, that come in a box.

And agree you need a soap or a body wash with antibacterial properties eg the Cerave mentioned upthread. Not hand sanitiser!! Actual bar soap is best.
