To think my neighbours are taking the piss?

Ignore my (broken) bin but it does nicely mark the end of my driveway. Maybe I’m just too much of a people pleaser but I would never place a skip on the side of the road and allow rubbish to fall from it on my neighbours side, and have stuff on the pavement.

They are very new neighbours too so it’s not going well for first impressions and its been like this for 3 days. They’ve seen it.

Also I know other people are cheeky and dump stuff, but when I had a skip mine had a lid on it to prevent this. Regardless, my skip, my responsibility.

Aibu?

To think my neighbours are taking the piss?

I would just lob those bits in on my way past, hopefully they'll get the idea.

AmeliaEarache · 26/09/2024 22:19

I've rarely seen a skip with a lid.

(isn't the old joke that a skip with a lid is a Skoda?)

PuppiesLove · 26/09/2024 22:29

Not something I'd sweat. If they've just moved in, they're likely having a sort at the same time and it will be gone soon. It's not obstructing the driveway. I'd just move it over if it annoyed me.

ButterAsADip · 26/09/2024 22:31

You can choose whether or not to be pissed off about this. Whichever way you choose, it will only affect you really.

Changingplace · 26/09/2024 22:32

I couldn’t get worked up about this, that bit of plastic looks like it’s just blown out of the skip and that unit should be in the skip but it’s hardly the end of the world.

WashableVelvet · 26/09/2024 22:35

It doesn’t look like a dropped kerb, they may not be thinking of it as a driveway. And it isn’t blocking you in.

It is a dropped kerb.

I really don’t want to touch any of it.

I really don’t want to touch any of it.

Why? Put some rubber gloves on if you really feel the need. Neighbours might not even be aware. I would say knock on their door and ask them to move it but be prepared to look incredibly petty 🤷‍♀️

It’s almost obstructing it and if you zone in you’ll see there are tree branches there which are piled high to the point I can’t see over them and therefore can’t see the road at all when I’m moving off my driveway.

So whilst you may not sweat it, it’s pretty inconsiderate. I wouldn’t do it to any of my neighbours.

Make a big deal about this and you'll alienate your new neighbours immediately

I was expecting a piece of crap next to the skip, not something that might have blown off and a little unit that might well have been dumped by someone else

I've never seen a skip left with a lid

You are overreacting

Stop moaning then! 😂

Christ, if it bothers you enough to go outside, take a photo and upload it to a chat forum to discuss it, you might as well have just chucked the bits back in.

ChirpyBee · 26/09/2024 23:03

Not a big deal. Doesn't look too bad to me.

Thunderpants88 · 26/09/2024 23:04

You really are a bit precious

alwaysmovingforwards · 26/09/2024 23:07

If this is high up your list of things to focus on… you have an excellent life!

meganorks · 26/09/2024 23:11

It really wouldn't bother me in the slightest. It doesn't really look like it's in the way just technically up to the boundry line. Really can't see why you care so much.
Also, in my experience, someone delivers a skip and then work starts happening without you personally having much say in the matter. It's not like they can move it a ft now is it?!

Milkand2sugarsplease · 26/09/2024 23:11

It's not really the end of the world given skips are collected fairly quickly.

From experience of having a few skips, they land where they're put by the company dropping them off, usually at speed and not really "could you just park it a bit further down please" territory.

It'll be go find soon.

If other issues arise with them, knock on and say something.

Yes being able to exit my driveway with no blind spots is high up on my list.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 26/09/2024 23:19

People pull out around skips, other cars, vans, walls, trees.... all the time
Just go slowly

It's like you've decided on the pulling out issue to justify your issues

I can never understand these posts where people ask for opinions, but really only want other posters to agree with them.

You need to improve your driving skills then, as cars are much taller than skips, not to mention vans 😳

whykeepchanging · 26/09/2024 23:40

I'm not really sure what the problem is? Is it on your property?
You think it's too high? It doesn't look taller than a van etc.

Delphiniumandlupins · 26/09/2024 23:42

Save your outrage for when they can't get the skip uplifted and it sits there for weeks. Then random people add more stuff. Then the skip company won't lift it because it's overfilled.
