To think my neighbours are taking the piss?

Ignore my (broken) bin but it does nicely mark the end of my driveway. Maybe I’m just too much of a people pleaser but I would never place a skip on the side of the road and allow rubbish to fall from it on my neighbours side, and have stuff on the pavement.

They are very new neighbours too so it’s not going well for first impressions and its been like this for 3 days. They’ve seen it.

Also I know other people are cheeky and dump stuff, but when I had a skip mine had a lid on it to prevent this. Regardless, my skip, my responsibility.

Yes being able to exit my driveway with no blind spots is high up on my list.

So ring their doorbell and have a chat with them about it like grown ups.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2024 12:40

TBH, I'd just suck it up for the short time it's likely to be there. The skip is full so should be collected soon enough.

Just ask them how long it's going to be.

An SUV or a van would obstruct your view just as much.

isthesolution · 02/10/2024 13:17

I'd not let it worry me. They are clearly having work done (hence the skip) and it'll be cleared soon.

I know this is a few days old, but I immediately thought of this sketch 😁

Meh, I would struggle to get annoyed over this, to be honest.
If it were me, I'd be a bit neighbourly and just put it in the skip for them. There are worse things that could happen.

Swiftie1878 · 02/10/2024 13:25

I don’t know what you want from this thread.
You seem to be the only one stressed by what appears in your image.
Advice is ‘calm down, don’t sweat it’.
There’s no point picking a fight with those on here who don’t agree with you.
Better go pick a fight with the offending neighbour. It’s bound to happen eventually anyway, since you’ve decided about them already based on their skip.

Good luck!

newbeggins · 02/10/2024 13:27

The stuff is on the road and pavement - you own neither.

The skip is also temporary.

Justsayit123 · 02/10/2024 13:29

Kick it to their kerb!

Aibu?

Chill out, go out and put said debris in the skip.

The skip load looks level to me, debris is on public highway not your property, probably due to a skip raider not your neighbours.

Noshowlomo · 02/10/2024 13:34

Love threads like this when people post “ooo if only this was my biggest worry”, when in reality if next doors skip was full of crap that was falling out and on their side of the pavement, falling into their boundary, the garden or even the pavement, they would be pissed off.
Yes it’s inconsiderate. If you’re new, and want to make a good impression you make sure it’s all tidied up.
Although I would pick it up myself and lob it all back in the skip.

K0OLA1D · 02/10/2024 13:36

This wouldn't even register as something to get even slightly annoyed about

Neighbore · 02/10/2024 13:39

I'm slightly annoyed that some mum has posted this troublesome matter (clearly not knowing how to handle the situation).

Hopefully the skip/s*it will be collected soon and we can all move on in our lives.

Walkden · 02/10/2024 13:41

"The stuff is on the road and pavement - you own neither."

Which usually means they need/ needed a permit to put it there....

Cantalever · 02/10/2024 13:45

Is it possible that they cannot see from their house that stuff has dropped on to your side from the skip? They may be unaware. When you know them a little better, and sometime after the skip has gone - mention that if they put anything on their drive, you need to be able to see clearly to exit your drive.

Zimunya · 02/10/2024 13:50

I get what people mean when they say there are bigger problems in the world - and of course there are - but this would irritate me too, OP. I totally agree that the skip is their responsibility, and therefore they should ensure that junk is not falling out onto your driveway, and that their skip is not obstructing your view when driving.

Twointhehand1 · 02/10/2024 13:50

Here are your options

  1. pick up the dropped plastic and put it back in
  2. knock and ask them to pick it up (incredibly petty but an option)
  3. Call the skip company and tell them they’ve left the skip too far over on your side, if this is the case (not sure what that will achieve at this point)
  4. Do nothing and stew on it and let it annoy you
If it becomes a repeat offence than you have a point.

I have also never seen a skip with a lid!!!!! It looks full, so I imagine it will be gone shortly.

halava · 02/10/2024 13:58

Are they irritating you in other ways and this is just icing on the cake?

If not, I personally would lob the stuff back into the skip and be thankful it will be gone in a few days. It is not a permanent feature, if it was, well then THAT would be an issue!

Pick your battles, get to know them and get a mutually respectful neighbourly relationship going. If that doesn't happen well then it's Plan B if they are serial offenders!

Ursulla · 02/10/2024 14:00

Is that your bin on the path?

K0OLA1D · 02/10/2024 14:01

Ursulla · 02/10/2024 14:00

Is that your bin on the path?

My bin is on the path right now. I'm at work and the bin men were due this morning. I'm assuming it's the same for the op

Ursulla · 02/10/2024 14:02

She's not at work though. She's at home taking photos of skips.

rainfallpurevividcat · 02/10/2024 14:05

If it's not outside their house but yours and partially covering the drive, I think while that isn't illegal it is pretty rude and inconsiderate.

Neighbore · 02/10/2024 14:06

Personally i'd have a word with the neighbours and or sweep it up, put the stuff in the skip

If your feeling really really mean - the skip is an obstruction on the road and should have a light on. Report an obstruction on the road !

Report an obstruction on the road

You can report obstructions on the road such as illegal signs, hedges, builders skips and scaffolding to the local council or National Highways.

fruitbrewhaha · 02/10/2024 14:09

No, your neighbours are not taking the piss.

Figsonit · 02/10/2024 14:13

I wouldn't leave a skip like that. But I wouldn't let a green bin sit there as an eyesore either.

OhshutupSimonyounobhead · 02/10/2024 14:13

Yet another one

OP - AIBU?

MN - Yes don't sweat it.

OP - IANBU

Why ask??
