Anybody hate showering when on their period?

Pormbk · 23/09/2024 07:22

Honestly I despise it. Mostly just because it feels overstimulating.

I have very painful periods so tend to be a hermit whilst on them. Tbh as I wfh I tend not to shower for 3/4 days if I can. If I go out or have people over obviously I will shower. I still change clothes, underwear etc.

I know it’s not the most hygienic thing but weirdly most of the time people would describe me as Monica due to my obsession with cleanliness. Just goes out the window when on my period. Not sure why

Am I the only one like this?

Yep me. I force myself to do it but I loathe it.

Itsamumslife2024 · 23/09/2024 07:24

I’m the opposite showering twice a day sometimes. Even told dd that she must shower daily when on her period for hygiene reasons

Pormbk · 23/09/2024 07:25

In summer I shower twice a day. Just despise it whilst on my period. I also don’t like being touched when it’s that tom

The thought of not showering for 3/4 days makes me feel ill.

I do not feel hygienic at all if I don't shower every day on my period. Always feel better after it.

OneDaringCat · 23/09/2024 13:06

I've never had a problem with this - what is the problem with it?

SauviGone · 23/09/2024 13:07

I’m the opposite, I shower morning and night when on my period and use the bidet a couple of times during the day too.

I’m not sure what I do is particularly great either though.

Ivehearditbothways · 23/09/2024 13:08

What is it you don’t like? Is it a sensory thing? You don’t like the contact form the water? Or a squeamish thing and you don’t like seeing any blood in the water going down the drain?

Oak89 · 23/09/2024 13:10

Maybe have a bath instead?

Personally I couldn't not shower for 3-4 days whilst on my period even if I wasn't seeing anybody. It's really unhygienic.

cattower · 23/09/2024 13:11

I hate it as well but I force myself to do it. I think 3-4 days is too long, try for every other day?

Theoriginalmrscillianmurphy · 23/09/2024 13:12

Sorry but that is vile.

Periodssuck · 23/09/2024 13:15

I’m with you. Hate showering when I’m on my period. Hate being touched, too. Do it if I have to but if just staying at home I don’t.

INeedAnotherName · 23/09/2024 13:15

I don't get them now but I found that when I was in pain I was more curled/hunched up as though protecting my tummy area. Showering involves stretching and vigorous movements, some of which involve arms over your head if hair washing. So you are having to do the opposite of what you "need" to do iyswim. Would a bath suit you better, especially as hot baths are recommended for pain.

Sameshitdifferentdayx · 23/09/2024 13:16

I used to be the opposite when I had periods (now on the coil!) But usually baths if I was in pain with it.. usually twice a day to stay clean, as I always used to use pads aswell, so they made me feel even more grim after a day/night of wearing them.

Didimum · 23/09/2024 13:24

Personally I do shower on my period and I'm indifferent to it/doesn't bother me, so this isn't coming form a defensive place, but I'm not sure what the obsession with 'hygiene' is and people calling OP vile. If OP is staying home, she is entitled do what makes her comfortable and happy, and not showering for 3-4 days is not going to kill you, you might just end up a bit smelly. The hard evidence of infections around your menstrual cycle are caused by hormone fluctuations and not by hygiene.

Just do what makes you comfortable, OP, you don't need anyone's validation.

AgnesX · 23/09/2024 13:26

Why don't you take baths instead. The heating really helps.

Mirabai · 23/09/2024 13:35

Just have a bath. Surely you wash your bits nonetheless.

DillDanding · 23/09/2024 13:36

I have a Mirena so no periods. But when I had them, I’d shower more and for longer.

Dogsandnumbers · 23/09/2024 13:41

I feel dirty on my period so take more showers than normal. I can't imagine going 3-4 days without a shower on my period. I'd feel disgusting. I use pads though so may feel differently if I used tampons.

I agree! I shower or bathe more than usual when I'm on my period (in winter unless I've been running I'll go two days normally but at least daily on my period), but I use period underwear and/or pads and have heavy flow so it feels super gross to me after even one day or night if I don't. But I can imagine how other people could feel differently for sure. In the first three days when my flow is heaviest the bit I hate most is when you finish the shower/bath and have to immediately dry your legs and bum etc and get pants and pad before dripping blood on the floor!
OP periods are crap and since it's simply impossible for what you do to affect anyone else then I don't see why you shouldn't deal with yours in the way that makes you most comfortable 💐

Sorry but that is vile.

Period or not a shower every day is basic self care x

honeylulu · 23/09/2024 13:45

God no! I feel all sweaty, leaky and horrible on my period. I seem to get worse BO and greasy hair at that time too. A thorough wash in the shower or bath is very welcome. Bath also helps ease the aches and pains.

The only thing I don't like is the extra hassle of dealing with the san pro before and after but it's not enough to put me off altogether.

Shinyandnew1 · 23/09/2024 13:48

Nope, I shower (or bath) every day unless I am at deaths door. I feel more grubby than usual when I’m on as well and it would be unlikely that I wouldn’t be going to work/out in those days, too.

It's basic self care for YOU, not for every one.

Ames74 · 23/09/2024 13:49

I shower every day regardless and it doesn't bother me. But YANBU to go a few days without a shower if that's better for you. No big deal and definitely not vile!

pinkfleece · 23/09/2024 13:49

If they're that bad, go to the GP and get them sorted.
