Anybody hate showering when on their period?

Honestly I despise it. Mostly just because it feels overstimulating.

I have very painful periods so tend to be a hermit whilst on them. Tbh as I wfh I tend not to shower for 3/4 days if I can. If I go out or have people over obviously I will shower. I still change clothes, underwear etc.

I know it’s not the most hygienic thing but weirdly most of the time people would describe me as Monica due to my obsession with cleanliness. Just goes out the window when on my period. Not sure why

Am I the only one like this?

That's revolting tbh

icouldholditwithacobweb · 23/09/2024 13:54

I go the other way, I have very painful periods so I have at least one hot bath a day (or at 2am, which is often when my uterus decides to double down on the cramps) and I also feel dirty so tend to shower more too.

But your body, your rules. If you hate showering on your period and aren't stinky and gross, don't do it. Nobody's going to die because you don't like showering while you're on your period.

And ignore any snarky comments about going to the GP to get your painful periods "sorted" because as anyone who's suffered for decades with intense period pain knows, sometimes there IS no "sorting it", all there is is getting through it as best you can.

JoMaloneCandles · 23/09/2024 13:55

Nothing like a hot shower on your period, the only thing I don't like is if my period is heavy and starts flowing while I'm in the shower, makes me feel so dirty, so I stay in the shower longer to make myself feel better.

If they're that bad, go to the GP and get them sorted.

Ha ha ha.

Period or not a shower every day is basic self care x

There is zero need to shower every day, its actually quite OTT, can cause health issues and a very modern thing.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 23/09/2024 13:58

Would you prefer a bath?

I find showering overstimulating first thing in the morning. So I can understand.

I tend to either shower at a different time or have a bath (usually an evening one), with a “standup wash” in the mornings.

Hariboaddicts · 23/09/2024 14:00

I have endometriosis so bathing and showering during my period is horrific. The first 3-4 days I can’t bath as the water turns red and there are clots the size of my hand in the water so it’s awful. Showering isn’t much better as the clots block the water draining it’s got to the point I have to fish them out and out in a bag to throw away . Not showering isn’t an option due to the heaviness as obviously that amount of blood gets everywhere it’s just a nightmare

housethatbuiltme · 23/09/2024 14:01

OP its your life, your house, your body... wash it as much or as little as you like.

I love how when it comes to abortions and such everyone is like 'your body, your choice girl' and 'don't let anyone tell you whats best for your health' but when it comes to something as ridiculous a non issue as how often to wash your hair or daily showers or weather you scrub your legs suddenly there uproar of shame and 'disgust' and correcting you on how you should use your body and how your doing it 'incorrectly' or 'wrong' because its not what someone else does.

Cattery · 23/09/2024 14:06

Didimum · 23/09/2024 13:49

It's basic self care for YOU, not for every one.

Yes for me. I couldn’t imagine not

GigiAnnna · 23/09/2024 14:07

No I need my baths even more when I'm on. I would feel gross if I didn't. I know lots of people on here argue that periods aren't dirty and they aren't, but the blood is sticky and uncomfortable and it can smell if left. Also a hot bath helps my cramps and I always feel better afterwards. I love physical touch even more when I'm on, I love a hug and a back rub from my husband when I'm not feeling very well.

deargodno · 23/09/2024 14:13

I have painless periods and if anything I prefer to shower more at that time, also for cleanliness reasons.

I think you should get more advice because that doesn't sound right at all.

Ginganinja123 · 23/09/2024 14:15

I’m the opposite I need to shower at least once a day if not twice when I’m on it.

TeaAndCakeFTW · 23/09/2024 14:16

I can go a couple of days without bathing when not going anywhere/seeing anyone but not on my period.

That's grim, and my standards are slovenly as fuck.

pinkfleece · 23/09/2024 13:49

If they're that bad, go to the GP and get them sorted.

Are you joking?

I went 8 years ago and said I think I have endometriosis, they offered the pill, I didn't want it and off I went

I now have stage 4 endo and am waiting for surgery. The waiting list to SEE gynae is 1-2 years, you can't just pop off and get them sorted Confused

Ivehearditbothways · 23/09/2024 13:08

What is it you don’t like? Is it a sensory thing? You don’t like the contact form the water? Or a squeamish thing and you don’t like seeing any blood in the water going down the drain?

It’s the water touching me. No problem with it when I’m not on my period

Sologurn · 23/09/2024 14:20

I hate showering in general but really want to when on my period. I feel gross as even after 30 years of periods I still manage to let my tampons overflow. Wow that was an over share 😂

Snowdrops17 · 23/09/2024 14:21

No couldn't not shower on my period actually makes me feel a bit ill just thinking about it , nothing better than a roasting hot shower.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 23/09/2024 14:25

I shower every day regardless of whether I'm on my period, and I don't see any blood as I use tampons

Pormbk · 23/09/2024 14:26

I also hate the feeling of having showered/being damp with a pad in (I tend to shower overnight so don’t use tampons straight after).

Obviously if I have to go to the office/socialise I will shower.

My bo is also not the smelliest and on the neutral side but even if it wasn’t I doubt my habits would change.

Sorry but that is vile.

What a nasty comment.

Fargo79 · 23/09/2024 14:31

OP, you are an adult and you can do whatever you need to do for your own comfort and wellbeing. If showering during your period is uncomfortable or upsetting for you, you don't have to do it. End of. You are working from home so you aren't compromising anyone else's hygiene standards or making them uncomfortable or inflicting smells on them etc. You also aren't going to cause yourself any harm by skipping a shower for a few days. What you do within your own four walls is completely up to you. Ignore anybody who judges or tries to make you feel shit about that.

Ineedanewsofa · 23/09/2024 14:35

What @Hariboaddicts said!
I get where you are coming from OP, the idea of showering on the first 3 days feels completely overwhelming but I do force myself as I also can’t stand feeling grubby. Periods are shit, can’t wait to be done with them!

thaegumathteth · 23/09/2024 16:41

I get it OP. Tbh I can't stand any kind of over stimulating things when I'm on my period like I couldn't wear new clothes for example of do something even vaguely uncomfortable. Obviously sometimes you have to ....

Do what makes you feel ok. I have no clue why people are so offended at you, a person to whom they have no personal link, not showering for a few days. It's none of their business and even if it was 3/4 days isn't VILE. God honestly people need to get a grip

BlackOrangeFrog · 23/09/2024 16:46

Can you not at least use a flannel and wash pits and bits?

dothehokeycokey · 23/09/2024 16:48

I like showering when on my period because I feel gross anyway so having a shower just makes me feel so much better
