On Saturday, I took my nephew to Pizza Hut. I thought it would just be a quick cheap lunch on the way to the cinema but it was soooo blinkin expensive. I couldn't believe it. If you go for the buffet I suppose it isn't too bad but he's a bit funny with food so I had to get him things from the main menu. Turns out a 9 inch pizza would be £18.99, then a drink too. That's nuts! You can get a meal deal and drink thing which is pizza, starter and drinks but that was £20. Twenty quid!!!! When did it become crazy expensive?

If you think that's bad try going to TGI! It's mental these days.

£20 for starter, main, bottomless drink and salad isn't that bad?

soupfiend · 22/09/2024 16:19

Family owned or independent restaurants offer much better value for money and much better food quality too

ItTook9Years · 22/09/2024 16:20

I use a tastecard and get BOGOF?

There's a lot of discounts available for Pizza Hut, usually 25-50% off. Their prices have increased a lot, mainly because most people have a discount there.

ComtesseDeSpair · 22/09/2024 16:22

Restaurants’ biggest costs tend to be fairly consistent regardless of what sort of food it serves or who its customer base is: rent, rates, utilities, staffing etc. With an increase in prices for energy, local authorities having put up rates, and significant rises to the minimum wage, all restaurant prices have gone up across the board to cover those, even if the food itself was previously seen as cheap and cheerful.

IHateWasps · 22/09/2024 16:22

Well TGI is in administration so hopefully it will disappear same as all the other chain shite like Frankie and Benny and Chiquitos keep doing.

I hope that you’re as blasé about losing your job as you are about other people potentially losing theirs.

jeaux90 · 22/09/2024 16:23

I think dominoes is better value with their offers, but I always try and use locally owned places if I can, I find them cheaper but also often nicer fresh ingredients.

Justwantosay · 22/09/2024 16:23

Pizza Hut is our default birthday meal out but it costs about £65 for the 4 of us.

Yeah but I didn't want a starter or salad and neither did he. Had to get the deal as It was cheaper though. It would have been over £20 for a small pizza and drink. Madness.

Although jobs in hospitality are two a penny so those staff will walk into a job elsehwere. Restaurants/hotels/bars etc are crying out for staff

JammieMaggie · 22/09/2024 16:33

It's shite and expensive. YANBU!

CrossUniStudent · 22/09/2024 16:36

Their bog standard menu pieces are ridiculous. I'm surprised they're still in business.

Sethera · 22/09/2024 16:38

They are basically conning you into having the starter.

jen337 · 22/09/2024 16:39

Their family deal is pretty good value, 60 for starters, pizzas and drinks for 4. Can’t think of many places could match that, even our maccies order comes to about 35 these days.

Funkyslippers · 22/09/2024 16:40

I've just had a look at their website & there's a 2 for 1 offer of main courses

GigiAnnna · 22/09/2024 16:41

Last time I went to Pizza Hut, we got 2 large pizzas, 2 chips to share, a share cookie dessert thing and a drink each and it came to £89. That was for me, my husband and four children.

It’s not cheap to eat anywhere.

I can only see that for large pizzas. The large ones are too big.

True but if you can decent greek food for example for cheaper (and far better quality) then it seems crazy. We went for ease but I won't be doing it again.
