Pizza hut prices

On Saturday, I took my nephew to Pizza Hut. I thought it would just be a quick cheap lunch on the way to the cinema but it was soooo blinkin expensive. I couldn't believe it. If you go for the buffet I suppose it isn't too bad but he's a bit funny with food so I had to get him things from the main menu. Turns out a 9 inch pizza would be £18.99, then a drink too. That's nuts! You can get a meal deal and drink thing which is pizza, starter and drinks but that was £20. Twenty quid!!!! When did it become crazy expensive?

I haven't been back since I had to watch children with their fingers all over the ice cream machine and the ice cream toppings. Yuck.

Went to Prezzo in the summer and that was 17 for a lasagna dish that was disappointing. I may as well bought a Charlie Bingham / m and s ready meal one instead , would have tasted better.
Nowhere is cheap unless it's an independent place or you have vouchers or it's the lunch meal deal or something like that. Even then it's hot and miss.

*Hit and miss

Pizza Hut is our default birthday meal out but it costs about £65 for the 4 of us.

That’s hardly excessive for 4 people.

I’m really not sure how cheap people expect eating out to be! Of course it’s cheaper to cook at home, that’s not comparable to eating in a restaurant environment with staff cooking and serving you.

Prezzo regularly do offers. Currently they’re offering 25% all food every day of the week. No way would I pay that much for a lasagne which from experience with chain restaurants and crappy pubs would be mediocre, probably frozen and brought in from somewhere else. Similarly with Pizza Hut and their frozen dough. A meal deal from a supermarket offers much better value.

Not pizza but took kids (8 & 12) to Wagamama last week. Kids menu meals are £5.50 and they are large portions, the chicken ramen was a full chicken breast with noodles and veg in a broth, I thought it was excellent value kids meal. We will make it our go to place in future when we go into town.

JustWantsSomeSleep · 22/09/2024 21:24

Everywhere is more expensive than it used to be. Even at the supermarket. You did notice?

PullTheBricksDown · 22/09/2024 21:28

Thing is, in any situation where you unexpectedly need to get food in a short time window, you will end up paying a higher price for convenience. It's really about that rather than Pizza Hut.

There’s decent affordable Italian food in many places. Our local Italian restaurant does a large wood fired margarita for £9. Place is packed. Why go to Pizza Hut? If you really want the Pizza Hut experience, Sainsbury’s do a stuffed crust pizza for £5 that is actually nicer and contains fewer additives. Pizza Hut prices are insane and the ingredients soooo bad for you.

Although jobs in hospitality are two a penny so those staff will walk into a job elsehwere. Restaurants/hotels/bars etc are crying out for staff

Ah the race to the bottom - always great
Hospitality businesses are not crying out for staff. They are crying out for low paid minions.
Not so much in the family eats or fast food sector, but "nice" restaurants, good waiting staff could earn a decent living (circa £50k in London with tips). Now it's all minimum wage and many a person will not deign to be a server thanks to societal expectations.
I'm trying not to use the B word, but it really hasn't helped.

Grapewrath · 23/09/2024 05:47

We found the same when we popped into the one in Southampton. The prices were crazy and the service was so slow that we ended up walking out without eating.
its a shame as when our kids were little it was our go too lace for quick dinner
All of our local ones have shut since

Pizza Hut has always been expensive. My friends and I regularly went as teens and even back then (16/17 years ago), it was about £25 for a large pizza from memory. I don’t think their prices have shot up all that much over the years, it’s just always been expensive.

I was in Napoli last month and it was 10€ for a large pizza in contrast and that’s how pizza should be made!

I can only see that for large pizzas. The large ones are too big.

It doesn't mention that on the website, but even if it was just large pizzas, surely it wouldn't come to £40 so you'd have been better off?

A large pizza is £26.99 and drinks would have been £3.99 each so it wouldn't have been far off even the deal had been available. Plus we'd have had tons of pizza left over and I wouldn't want to carry that to the cinema to be honest.
