Pull out his airpod and chuck it away

I put my basket on the till, turned away to get a bag. Turned back, couldn't see my shopping basket – someone had put their basket ON my basket and were scanning their items. When I remonstrated with them, they said: 'What are you going to do about it?' Then ignored me. I swear, next time I'm going to pull the entitled tosser's bloody airpod out… What is going on?! I've never come across such dickish behaviour before.

They probably were in a daze and not thinking straight. Why would you grab something out their ear? If someone did that to me I'd be terrified. Yes they didn't handle it well but they were probably like oh shit when you started "remonstrating" in some areas it's kill or be killed.

Branleuse · 17/09/2024 14:38

Did the cashier not say anything??

washingsomuchwashing · 17/09/2024 14:39

It's a busy, urban mixed area, but people generally behave fairly reasonably. Even dare I say it, kindly. Are you saying you'd put your shopping basket on someone else's and not realise? Then not apologise?

Self service, they're kept pretty busy. wouldn't expect her to get involved anyway to be fair.

Was there stuff in your basket? Was it your own basket that you were going to take with you?

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/09/2024 14:42

You never know what's going on for someone.

Good advice I should take myself!

My basket was full of items I hadn't yet scanned.

He was an entitled dick who couldn't wait 30 seconds for a free till and thought he would cut in

I dunno about the airpod, think i would throw his shopping 😂

thunderbanana · 17/09/2024 14:45

just waiting for another thread about a person leaving their basket unattended to wonder off to get something and was it ok to crack on and use the self service till 🤷‍♀️

you weren’t ready so shouldn’t have blocked the till with your basket

The shop assistant was holding the bags. I put the basket down and turned around to ask for one. I've used self service tills almost every day in the same supermarket for the past decade. This was not normal behaviour on his part.

If you were next to your basket but just turned around how on earth did someone push in front of you?

also if you go everyday day perhaps keep hold of the bag and reuse it

save the environment and save yourself from this scenario

It was fairly astonishing, to be fair.

I usually do have my own bag, thanks. Have managed to not encounter this scenario before in my lifetime.

Might do if there wasn't much in it the owner of the basket returned and gave me what for

Save yourself from this scenario? Jesus, the other person was in the wrong and only on MN, do you get a response like this 😶

I thought that. Makes me wonder how people manage to function on a day to day basis! We should all be able to use a self service till by now.

Even if someone were in a daze and made this mistake the normal thing to do would be to apologise. Not ask someone “what you guna go?”
Not quite sure how you can defend the rude or aggressive behaviour?

OP was ready hence being at the tills, most self scans have a staff member holding the bags which you get once you’re at the till

AuntieJoyce · 17/09/2024 15:00

I know this is not the same scenario as you OP but the other day where I was trying to pack my bag up at the self-service point this guy just shoved across me and started to try and scan his stuff whilst I was still packing

The joke was on him as the scanner wouldn’t accept any transactions whilst there was still stuff on the scale. So I just stared him out and packed my bag really really slowly

washingsomuchwashing · 17/09/2024 15:03

Mumsnet bingo. Someone behaves in an outlandishly rude way, the poster gets told they're doing it wrong and, oh, the other person might have something on their mind. Grin

Reading this and the OP - and maybe I'm just far too cynical these days, but i can't help think 'would these fellas have behaved like this if you were each a bloke?'. Assuming you and OP are both a woman here.
