To ask if you put your phone on Do Not Disturb?

I’ve been wondering about this recently. Do you put your phone on DND during certain times of the day, like when you’re working, sleeping, or just need a break from notifications? How do you decide when to use it, and do you have any tips for managing notifications effectively?

Yes. When I'm at work, at night when im going to sleep, or if im having a nap earlier. Some Apps will send notifications at any time, same with emails, I dont want to be woken up by that its annoying.

I have a 2nd phone, only my DCs, DP and siblings have that number. They dont ring it, but would in an emergency if they couldnt get me on main phone.

spikeandbuffy24 · 09/09/2024 00:04

Mine is set to allow all calls through overnight but no other notifications

DiscoBeat · 09/09/2024 00:05

I always put it on at night, or if I take a nap during the day.

MillyMollyMandHey · 09/09/2024 00:13

Yes, 8:30pm every night.

MillyMollyMandHey · 09/09/2024 00:13

DH can always get through at any time though

Redglitter · 09/09/2024 00:16

Mine is on DnD from 10pm til midday. I have it set though so certain people's calls/messages can get through but that's all

EngineEngineNumber9 · 09/09/2024 00:22

Mine comes on at 11pm, just as I’m about to go to bed. I have it switched on until 10am but in reality I switch it off as soon as I’m showered and dressed.

This is mainly as my dad sometimes likes to send very long rambling messages about non-urgent household/garden issues before he goes to sleep which I hate waking up to as it makes me feel panicked. (E.g. a bullet point list of furniture items, including photos, that they are sending to the charity shop and would we like any of it, etc.)

Messages and calls from DH get through at all times though. As he’s not a dickhead.

Also it’s always on silent and not even on vibrate unless I’m expecting an important call eg from the doctor.

EBearhug · 09/09/2024 00:24

Notifications are permanently on silent. The ring tone is on silent unless I'm expecting a call or I'm on-call for work.

RawBloomers · 09/09/2024 00:25

My phone is almost always on silent. I put it on DND at night and if I’m in a movie or something, so it doesn’t vibrate either but will ring for starred contacts. When I’m at home, it’s normally in another room, and I get notifications flash up on my computer,.

It’s mainly about not being disturbed by the noise for me. I don’t have any problem ignoring notifications if I want to concentrate on something else and I rarely respond to non urgent messages straight away.

AntiHop · 09/09/2024 00:26

Mine is on permanent dnd expect for calls.

Dweetfidilove · 09/09/2024 01:33

I turn off notifications, but never use DND.

mondaytosunday · 09/09/2024 01:55

My phone is always on silent, and the only notifications I get are texts or WhatsApp. So I have to pick it up to see anything.

kayakerak · 09/09/2024 02:02

I have my phone on silent all the time. DND goes on from 11pm till 6am as the screen lighting up from notifications kept waking me up just as I would be getting off to sleep. I have started turning off notifications for more and more of my apps as I’m trying not to be on my phone so much (she says at 2am, on her phone).

I’ve never really thought about phone calls tho. There are very few people who would need to call me in the middle of the night for an emergency. But I live with my DM and she has her phone on full blast as she’s a bit deaf so anyone trying to get hold of us will def wake one of us up 😂

OneTooFree · 09/09/2024 02:20

Mine is on silent permanently and all notifications are always turned off / blocked.
It never goes to bed with me either.

Bjorkdidit · 09/09/2024 03:08

The only notifications I have are WhatsApp, which are silent. I cannot stand people who's phones bing and bong all the time.

The ringer is turned on but I don't get that many calls.

Vabenejulio · 09/09/2024 03:28

I have switched off all ringing (except elderly parents abroad) and vibrations 24/7. Switched off all notifications. I look at my phone when I choose to.

MaitlandGirl · 09/09/2024 03:38

My MIL found out on Saturday that her phone had been accidentally on DND for the 2 weeks since FILs funeral. She'd thought people were giving her space to grieve and that it was only the immediate family that were contacting her (as per her DND settings)

She was a bit embarrassed when she realised what had happened but she's leaving it for a few more weeks - it did explain why her voicemail was full though!

PaillettenBedeckt · 09/09/2024 03:48

Mine is on DND permanently unless I'm expecting an urgent call.

I get a lot of people messaging me throughout the day and I don't want it buzzing constantly. If I am out with friends and I might need to know that they've messaged, I'll unmute notifications on my Fitbit so I can see them easily.

MermaidMummy06 · 09/09/2024 03:53

Yes, from 10pm-6am to stop me being woken by spam calls & messages.

I turn sound off during work hours, so it still vibrates, but doesn't annoy colleagues. My phone is LOUD.

mychilddeservesaneducation · 09/09/2024 03:57

Yes overnight from sleep until wake.
Yes if I'm driving.

(Both of the above are implemented automatically by my phone).

Yes (manually) if I'm in a meeting, at the cinema / theatre, in church etc. where it would be inappropriate to have my phone / Apple watch flashing up / pinging alerts.

MattieandmummyandIs · 09/09/2024 05:28

Yes every night from 9pm until 7am. It's mostly on silent during the day too when I'm working.

Zanatdy · 09/09/2024 05:47

No never as I have 2 young adults and want to always be able to pick up a message, or from my mother

Porridgeislife · 09/09/2024 05:55

My phone is in work focus from 9-5 and sleep mode 10-6. Only get notifications/calls from DH, childcare and immediate relatives.

MaryShelley1818 · 09/09/2024 05:55

Mine is on silent 24/7. I thought that was unusual but seems lots of people do it!

WetWeasel · 09/09/2024 05:59

I set apps to silent but not phone calls, texts or whatsapps
