To think this is too early!

At 7 minutes past eight this morning the neighbour directly opposite us cranked up his petrol mower followed by his petrol strimmer then leaf blower. At 8:53 he wheeled out his petrol power washer and began to wash is cars. It was warm here last night so we all have windows open. I'm so pissed off he's ruined my only lie in of the week.

I'm in a quiet cul de sac in NI. I appreciate we generally have had a shot summer and he's making the most of the good weather but holy god! Surely 8am is too early for this caper!

Is there a
Legal limit.

YABU

Fine for a Saturday

PandoraSox · 07/09/2024 09:28

It is a bit early, I wouldn't do any of that before 9am at a weekend.

Werweisswohin · 07/09/2024 09:28

It's a bit annoying but he's not doing anything wrong.

Rhoumblestiilliness · 07/09/2024 09:29

That would really piss me off. I feel your pain, it’s not considerate at all on a weekend.

TinaYouFatLard · 07/09/2024 09:29

Too early for a Saturday. 9am at the earliest - I would be seriously pissed off.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/09/2024 09:29

I'd have no problem with that!

RobinHood19 · 07/09/2024 09:30

It is a bit early and I share your pain, I currently have building works that start at 7:00 on weekdays and today we already had drilling and loud music on by 8:15… Sadly not much one can do to stop these things if within the legal limits.

Edit to add I’d probably have no issue if I was naturally up at that hour. However, I work until midnight / 1am most nights, so it’s annoying when I only get about 6 hours of quiet time overnight, and I’m not even sleeping for all of them…

Turnitoffnonagain · 07/09/2024 09:30

We wait until gone 10am at the weekend.

UpUpUpU · 07/09/2024 09:31

Try being a shift worker who has to sleep during the day.
You will surely live OP

No33 · 07/09/2024 09:31

YANBU!

We've had the same this morning. Hasn't woken the kids though, so there's that!

confusedabouthormones · 07/09/2024 09:31

A mixed bag! I'm probably just being a grumpy mare cos he woke me up. He's currently spraying his two labs with water making them bark. I know I'm maybe unreasonable but he's being a prick! I notice all the blinds in his house are still closed. I imagine wife and kids are still in bed.

I think 9 would be nicer but some people are still up at 6 at weekends and it might feel to them like they’ve waited ages until 8

neverbeenskiing · 07/09/2024 09:32

Earplugs? White noise? Shut the windows?
No one likes being woken up but he's not doing anything wrong. I would be looking at solutions you can implement yourself rather than wasting energy being pissed off.

deeahgwitch · 07/09/2024 09:32

Just thank your lucky stars you're not married to him 😂
All that productivity before 9 on a Saturday

You can tell I'm not an early bird.

confusedabouthormones · 07/09/2024 09:33

I was a night nurse for 13 years and so I used to be able to sleep through an earthquake. Sadly I've lost that talent now. I'm going to invest in some ear plugs. I think.

Of course it's too early. It's just anti social and rude. It wouldn't have killed him to wait an hour.

mamajong · 07/09/2024 09:35

I think it's fine, get some earplugs

confusedabouthormones · 07/09/2024 09:35

@deeahgwitch I agree. I love his wife she's a real "Lynette" type character. We call him manchild because he literally plays in the street with the kids all day. They all love him. We are all just jealous because he is in his 40's and has the energy of a teenager.

I think it's too early. He's well aware that people were still asleep at that time and he did it anyway. Sleep is precious!

I could not justify waking my neighbours up to myself like that. It's also really quiet where I am. The very idea of going out with a leaf blower and blasting it when it's so quiet otherwise makes me cringe.

rainbowstardrops · 07/09/2024 09:42

I think it's selfish and inconsiderate just like my bloody neighbours

Equally, loads of people are up at that time and have a day to be getting on with. It's not as if it was 6am!

MidnightPatrol · 07/09/2024 10:32

Annoying but if it’s just a one off I’d ignore it.

It’s been quite wet recently so maybe they’re just seizing the moment to do the mowing before it starts raining again?

Thelnebriati · 07/09/2024 10:33

I'd be in trouble with my landlord for making that much noise before 9am or after 6pm.

Sartre · 07/09/2024 10:33

Annoying but I think 8am is generally considered ok for weekends. Personally wait until 9am but I know my closest neighbours are up way before that so wouldn’t care if we did anything earlier.
