How long do you wait before giving up?

Im waiting for someone to collect my sofa after selling on Facebook. They’re 15 minutes late. Should I give it up and get on with my evening?

so annoying.

I'd say 30 minutes or at a push 45, it's so annoying when they just don't let you know.

Sittingonthefence83 · 04/09/2024 19:16

I'd probably say an hour !

ArmchairOlympian · 04/09/2024 19:16

I’ve text her but no response.

OP posts:
ArmchairOlympian · 04/09/2024 19:18

If she turns up at 8pm I wouldn’t answer the door. I’ll give her until 7.30. Fuming as my evenings are so short and I’m just hanging around.

What would you be doing if you weren't hanging around? are you meant to be going out?

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 04/09/2024 19:23

I'd text "go you need to collect this by time, I'm not available after. Thanks"

DeliciousApples · 04/09/2024 19:26

15mins is nothing. They're prob lost or stuck in traffic. Give them a break.

Parkmybentley · 04/09/2024 19:29

Weird. They might be coming from really far away. If they are driving they won't (shouldnt!) be reading or replying to texts!

They're picking up a sofa from FB - they won't turn up. Sorry OP. But there are so many free sofas on my local FB pages - no one really wants them.

GrandHighPoohbah · 04/09/2024 19:30

I always arrange a pick up of my items for sale for times when I would be home anyway. Randoms off the internet frequently let you down unfortunately, it's part and parcel of online selling. Often picking up isn't as much as a priority for them as getting rid is for you. It's very rude but that's what happens quite a bit.

Galadriell · 04/09/2024 19:30

I'd not be too worried at the 15 min point. 30 mins then yes.

jyfvjy · 04/09/2024 19:30

An hour i'd say

Why wouldn't you answer the door? That's just cutting your nose off to spite your face

Thanks - so many reasons to beat the OP but over this subject seriously?

If you've got somewhere to be then I would have let the buyer know because 15 isn't that late.

It you need to be out of the house then I would have said "I am out after 7.30pm so please don't come after that time."

If you're at home then I understand it might be a little tricky with being interrupted but I'd just get on with the evening.

I presume you want the sofa to be gone.

ArmchairOlympian · 04/09/2024 19:34

She hasn’t turned up, I’m considering it a failure and moving on.

OhmygodDont · 04/09/2024 19:36

After 15 minutes if no message I’d expect them not to arrive and go about my day.

Id also make sure to block them later on so they cannot try and get anything in future.

GlassRat · 04/09/2024 19:40

I don't get why you wouldn't answer the door, presumably you need to get rid of this sofa and she's taking it off your hands.

LlynTegid · 04/09/2024 19:42

It should be the case that 15 minutes is reasonable no more, but most people seem to have too much acceptance of lateness.

You made the right decision.

How is my comment beating you?? Seriously, if you're at home why wouldn't you open the door?

Beautiful3 · 04/09/2024 20:00

I'd wait half an hour. If they were an hour late, I'd do it, just to get rid of the sofa.

I don't get the logic either. Seems bloody bonkers to me.

Just go about your evening presumably if they turn up now they won't be interrupting you doing anything of note so just let them take the sofa.

Just turn the tv on, sit and relax and wait until they turn up.

IsThisIt2021 · 04/09/2024 20:12

id give it 30 mins and if no contact stating they can’t find the house etc, then I’d assume they aren’t coming.

On a side note, wish I could find these sofas. I’m sick of looking on Facebook and seeing scam post after scam post!
