How long do you wait before giving up?

Im waiting for someone to collect my sofa after selling on Facebook. They’re 15 minutes late. Should I give it up and get on with my evening?

so annoying.

I mean this in the nicest possible way - calm down. It’s not a big deal, selling on marketplace is a pita and you’re gonna get super stressed if you let the CFs get to you.

Not hiding anywhere just boggled by the vitriol of Mumsnet.

They turned up 50 minutes late, strolled in no apology. Teenage daughter in tow who just walks straight past me. Offered 20% lower than asking price. I let them have it, can’t be arsed with going through it again.

Cheeky fuckers everywhere.

The only one who has posted with any vitriol on this thread is you.

Seriously, this is like the people that get really upset by buyers/sellers on Vinted. If it's too much and it's causing this much anxiety and upset just don't do it. When I sold on FB Marketplace I just wanted things gone and really didn't care - if they showed up they showed up, if they didn't I went out or sold it to the next person.

BoredAuditor · 04/09/2024 22:27

Sometimes you just need to recognise that some people are rude. And let them be rude. You may never see them again.

Look on the brightside your settee is gone and you don't need to wrestle it into / onto your car to take it to the tip. And, they paid you for it.

Glass half full and all that

48Hourss · 04/09/2024 22:39

LetMeGoogleThat · 04/09/2024 21:10

Ah, you got rid of the sofa. Saved yourself a trip to the tip, didn't waste time chatting, and gave us all some entertainment this evening.

I'm sat at an airport, and my flight is delayed by an hour, I may refuse to get on it when it does arrive 😜🤣

Definitely refuse 🤣 make a thread about it...🤣

MyKidsAreTooNoisy · 04/09/2024 22:54

I hate lateness. But did this actively impact on your evening OP other that giving you something to get het up about? Doesn’t sound like you had to cancel any plans…

Coffeeatthelocalmarket · 04/09/2024 23:16

ArmchairOlympian · 04/09/2024 21:13

They live walking distance from my house but came in a car.
not lost, not held up, just rude.

Ok, you know they didn't apologise, but how can you tell if they were held up or not if they didn't explain why they were late?
Because not everyone will explain, even if they have a genuine reason.

carrotcard · 04/09/2024 23:21

ArmchairOlympian · 04/09/2024 19:33

Thanks - so many reasons to beat the OP but over this subject seriously?

I was wondering that too OP. Wouldn't you just answer it and say sure here's the sofa that's £20 please or whatever. It only makes sense to not answer the door if you're busy /asleep

carrotcard · 04/09/2024 23:24

OhmygodDont · 04/09/2024 20:33

I’m that petty I’d rather use it on a bonfire than let people be late and waste my time waiting for them to then let them have it 🤷🏻‍♀️

That would cause a lot of air pollution

TheShellBeach · 04/09/2024 23:25

Fuming as my evenings are so short

Why? Does time go faster in your house than everywhere else?

Teenagers aren't known for their social graces. They are still learning

DrCoconut · 04/09/2024 23:30

I had a weird scenario where a seller gave me the address and said i could come straight round as they were in all evening. I did and they were out (or not answering and lights off). I never got my item!

Chrsytalchondalier · 04/09/2024 23:35

They might have "time blindness" 🤭

Flowery57 · 04/09/2024 23:39

BoredAuditor · 04/09/2024 20:57

Hmm, I see your logic...But I presume OP then has to build a bonfire to burn it on first. Then clear up the burnt remnants of an old settee. That takes longer but at least the time wasting fuckers didn't get it 😀

😂😂

“Vitriol” 🙄🙄🙄

housethatbuiltme · 05/09/2024 08:51

Some on mumsnet are mad... a bonfire and the fines that come with it lol.

At least its gone OP. The thing is Sofas are REALLY hard to sell because they are hard to collect/move. Most people need to hire a van and need multiple people to come carry it and they are awkward to get in and out (PIVOT). Many would just rather pay 10x as much to DFS or somewhere for a new one thats hassle free delivered.

Our sofa is a £3000+ hand made designer leather sofa imported from Italy originally, we got it on facebook market place for £60. However we had to hire and some builders and their van to drive to the other side of the county to collect it, get it out of that house and move it into the house (with 2 narrow long right angle corridors as the only two entrances). was a MASSIVE pain in the arse but cheap and has last 12 years. God knows how we will move it when we move though, I said we should just buy a new one to the horror of my family but the logistics is a nightmare.

Knock knock

"Please come in and have a discount"

Cosycore · 06/09/2024 09:34

I’ve stopped trying to sell things OP.
People are late.
People don’t show up.
People try to lower the price.
People try to insist on delivery when it’s collection only.
people are CFs.

So, if it ain’t easy any longer, I don’t do it. If it’s easier to dispose of, then that’s what I do now.
Ive wasted evenings for people not coming, and my time sometimes means more to me than a bit of cash for something
