How messy is your house right now

Just curious if I’m good, bad or average.

My house is tidyish but not overly clean imo. I go through the motions but can’t say my house is perfect.

As most of the cleaning falls or me I don’t allow dh or kids to have crap floating around. Clutter got to me a few years so I created a system where I put any clutter on the dining table if I see it. At the end of the night if it hasn’t been put away it gets chucked. So the rooms never get crazy as I have bins and storage for almost everything.

But the woodwork could do with some hot soapy water, the grout could do with a steam clean and everything just needs a good old dust.

There’s a few jobs (hob, bin wiping and stairs) I’ve given up on as I’m hoping someone will have the initiative. They haven’t funnily enough. Washing gets done but I’ve stopped folding and just put them in piles on stairs and scream for owners to take up.

Id give myself a 6.8/10.

What about you?

Love hearing how normal other people are as SM would have you believing otherwise

My home is spotless.

ChallahPlaiter · 03/09/2024 17:56

Incredibly messy. Everyone is autistic.

tobee · 03/09/2024 18:04

Incredibly messy as pp. everyone is (diagnosed or likely to be truthful) adhd and some are autistic.

UpUpUpU · 03/09/2024 18:12

Quite good at the moment. I have managed to get into some good routines over the summer holidays so it is mostly clean and tidy. Ask again come Sunday and it may be a completely different story!

Justcallmebebes · 03/09/2024 18:16

Clean and tidy but I'm a neat freak, hate mess and clutter and like everything to be in its rightful place. Life feels chaotic if my living space is a mess

UserNameOfShame · 03/09/2024 18:18

Terrible. We have just come back from holiday so have open cases in the kitchen while trying to get through the washing.
No idea how the house is as u tidy as it is we have only been back 2 days and the DC have made a mess.
It's surface clean but needs a really good deep clean everywhere. Skirtings etc are dirty.

DH and I both work FT and with 2 young DC there isn't enough time to keep it clean. I would get a cleaner but too embarrassed at this stage

CruisingDuck · 03/09/2024 18:19

I'm mocked all the time for having a show home house. It's not. It's very clean, tidy and not cluttered. Everything has a place.

When toddler is in bed, toy baskets are put away and I light a candle as it makes it makes me relax at night. I can't handle mess. I grew up in a messy house. I'm the same on holiday, the hotel room has to be tidy, same with work desk etc.

Loop3x5 · 03/09/2024 18:34

There is residual messiness from the day but it's clean enough. Could do with a dust and hoover but not desperate. I could have it guest ready in 15mins.

SanMarzano · 03/09/2024 18:36

Fairly messy - we went camping last week and I’ve been really busy at work ever since and had to deal with a minor family emergency at the weekend so basically never had time to finish putting away all the washing and camping gear. Definitely needs a deep clean to put off the spiders as well 😱

HailtotheBop · 03/09/2024 18:38

Middling. Fairly tidy, not too much clutter. Not particularly clean though (could write my name in the dust in certain areas!)

Jeezitneverends · 03/09/2024 18:41

Clean, tidy and organised…I never thought I’d see the day I could say that! Adult household, and when we remodelled the house, I gave a lot of thought to how I could make it easy to keep clean and tidy, and it’s been worthwhile.
Im as far as you can get from being a person who cleans as a hobby, but because the house is always tidy, cleaning gets done without a second thought

Plasmodesmata · 03/09/2024 18:41

It's bad. Son 1 came back from uni with boxes of his stuff that are waiting for him to go back with. Son 2 is starting uni in a couple of weeks so also accumulating stuff for him. There's just crap everywhere. Hoping once they've gone I can tidy up a bit

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 03/09/2024 18:41

We need to run around with the hoover. There are boxes strewn about because the cat plays in them. There are cat toys everywhere. Otherwise I'd say it's not too bad.

Scirocco · 03/09/2024 18:43

Well, I've just got home to discover DC has 'decorated' the windows with new artwork, so your home is probably in a better state than mine. I'm off to find out how 'washable' these pens actually are (and to 'have words' with DH, who was allegedly in charge)...

FirstTimeHomeowner · 03/09/2024 18:44

LOL 🙃

My kitchen looks like a bomb has hit it, living room covered in toys and snacks, cannot remember the last time I hoovered, bedsheets desperately need changing, laundry baskets overflowing. I had thought I was powering through the school holidays like a champ and balancing everything, but the last week killed me off 😂

I've taken tomorrow as annual leave to get my s**t back together. Wish me luck (and that I don't end up on the sofa binge watching anything)...

Hugmorecats · 03/09/2024 18:46

It’s been a long time since any of my tables have been clear. I always have out books I’m reading, kids clothes, paperwork, water bottles for the kids… I hoover and then the kids drop biscuit crumbs… I empty the dishwasher and meanwhile the youngest is busy pouring hand soap all over the floor. It’s not dirty (especially since 4 yo is into spreading soap everywhere!) but it does get messy. It’s a small house so the clutter looks a lot worse than it would in a larger house.

Bit like mine - it's tidy but will proper clean tomorrow as cat hair is building up

but it's clean, not sticky and liveable with - 8/10

SoOriginal · 03/09/2024 18:47

I have Covid at the moment and the house has fallen apart 😂 poor DP is trying his best, but it’s messy! Hopefully I’ll be feeling better soon and can get back on top of it.

Saschka · 03/09/2024 18:48

Very, but we just moved house and haven’t sorted everything out yet. And need more/different storage, which we haven’t bought yet.

Cheekymonkye · 03/09/2024 18:48

Pretty yuck .

I am however just about on top of the washing .

just hung a wash load out to dry tomorrow, and there’s the rest of the mucky stuff washing now .

if I put away the last few bits before bed I’ll be totally infront- which was the plan as I want to do all the beds on Friday .

every thing else 👎🏻

I have no defence except I have worked 8 hours today and hubby is still at work . I did make a healthy stir fry for tea . Then had a doughnut 🍩

as you can see , I do nothing well , but try a lot 😆

Donewiththisshit · 03/09/2024 18:50

Awful. Crap everywhere. Can’t clean properly because of said crap. Need to change bedsheets. So so so tired after work each day all I can do is look at it and feel sad and overwhelmed. I’m likely ADHD. I’m ashamed if anyone comes to the door.
Bathroom is clean actually so there’s that.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 03/09/2024 18:53

We have 5 people in a 2 bedroomed council house. We have just accepted that it will be messy for the next 10ish years and let it go!

FlippityFloppityFlump · 03/09/2024 18:53

My house is currently spotless but that's only because we've had a new cleaner come in today who did a deep clean!

RandomUsernameHere · 03/09/2024 18:53

Messy. Partly because we're supposed to be moving house soon, partly because I can't be bothered (but I think I feel this way because we're getting ready to move)! There are cardboard boxes piled in the dining room and the DCs' dirty bikes are also stashed in there! The rest of the house is ok.

Anotherparkingthread · 03/09/2024 18:54

ADHD and autism diagnosis for myself and partner but no children. 3 pets.

I spend 10 minutes doing a 'put away or throw away' every day. I then do a second pass a few hours later as often things like squash or the cooking oil etc can be missed when moving the obvious junk. It's amazing when you start how many things can actually be removed from a room.

I am now quite minimalist and while I don't live in some beautiful scandi nirvana I do have a very clutter free environment. It actually helps me think straight and manage tasks.

I'd say my house is a 7 most of the time but I only feel a 10 can be achieved with a true deep clean where I know even what's inside the cupboards is spotless and minimal.

Rabbits mean there's usually a few bits of hay around!
