How messy is your house right now

Just curious if I’m good, bad or average.

My house is tidyish but not overly clean imo. I go through the motions but can’t say my house is perfect.

As most of the cleaning falls or me I don’t allow dh or kids to have crap floating around. Clutter got to me a few years so I created a system where I put any clutter on the dining table if I see it. At the end of the night if it hasn’t been put away it gets chucked. So the rooms never get crazy as I have bins and storage for almost everything.

But the woodwork could do with some hot soapy water, the grout could do with a steam clean and everything just needs a good old dust.

There’s a few jobs (hob, bin wiping and stairs) I’ve given up on as I’m hoping someone will have the initiative. They haven’t funnily enough. Washing gets done but I’ve stopped folding and just put them in piles on stairs and scream for owners to take up.

Id give myself a 6.8/10.

What about you?

Love hearing how normal other people are as SM would have you believing otherwise

It’s perfect, OCD. My house as a child was the pits.

this resonantes with me...

ObieJoyful · 03/09/2024 20:19

If a burglar came in, they’d assume we’d already been done.

CrushingOnRubies · 03/09/2024 20:20

6/10

Went into a spotless house and I have never seen a house like it. Made mine look really messy which it probably is but it's manageable atm

newyear2024 · 03/09/2024 20:21

My bathroom and kitchen are always clean as I prioritise those two rooms. Teens bedrooms - bins need emptied and clothes all over floors but they are big enough to do it (they just dont)

Living room tidy but I darent look under the sofa 🤣. Lots of walls need fresh paint or a good scrub but haven't had time for that yet. Wash basket pretty full from the weekend still. I have three children, cat and a messy dog and I will never have a perfect show home, our house is very lived in and there's lots of piles of paperwork/kids art/certificates etc in little piles 🤣 paintings get stuck up on the fridge. Youngest brings home random sticks/leaves etc from dog walks and leaves them sitting around. I do have nice furniture and each room looks nice but definitely not insta worthy lol

Kinda messy, but not a big job to sort really...worked right up to going on holiday, and went straight back to work afterwards, 12 hour days don't make you want to clean when you get home! Just bought a robot vacuum to help, will sort the rest at the weekend, I don't let it bother me

Autumnismyfavouritetimeofyear · 03/09/2024 20:28

Without boasting I would say I am a 9 out of 10 at the moment. I have friends coming at the weekend so the last few weeks I have been deep cleaning each room so they dont think I live in squalor or judge me! Once they have left, I will be back to my slovenly ways - I think 6 out of 10 is pretty good!

Pretty yuck .

I am however just about on top of the washing .

just hung a wash load out to dry tomorrow, and there’s the rest of the mucky stuff washing now .

if I put away the last few bits before bed I’ll be totally infront- which was the plan as I want to do all the beds on Friday .

every thing else 👎🏻

I have no defence except I have worked 8 hours today and hubby is still at work . I did make a healthy stir fry for tea . Then had a doughnut 🍩

as you can see , I do nothing well , but try a lot 😆

Were we separated at birth?

Incredibly messy. Everyone is autistic.

Same here

henlake7 · 03/09/2024 20:41

Mine is a pigsty....no excuses, I just can't be arsed cleaning most of the time!
I am quite tidy though which tends to make it look cleaner then it is (in my mind things like skirting boards are self cleaning, I only really bother with surfaces I'm using!).

caringcarer · 03/09/2024 20:43

Ha ha. Mines a big mess. I only got back from holidays at weekend. I've got a bathroom fitter here putting me in a new bathroom and today I also got a new kitchen delivered. Boxes everywhere all up through the hall and worktops in the dining room. I can't even get into my downstairs loo as boxes are in front of it. Thankfully tomorrow my son has hired a van and will be taking this new kitchen to put in a btl property. I'll be able to see my floor again. My bathroom won't be ready for another 2 or 3 days.

Sgtmajormummy · 03/09/2024 20:44

House dusted and vacuumed, laundry and dishes up to date, kitchen and bathrooms clean and orderly, beds changed, most things in the right place and a few piles of doom have disappeared.

I’ve been on my own for a week, that’s why!

My home is spotless.

So is mine

Goldbar · 03/09/2024 21:20

If I left the door open and a burglar walked in, they would leave because they'd think we'd already been burgled.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 03/09/2024 21:28

Need to put laundry away and dust/hoover upstairs but otherwise not too bad. Can do that in an hour or so tomorrow.

Clutter is building up in the garage though so need to go through that at some point soon. Also need some more toy storage like a big chest to fling everything into.

BigBoysDontCry · 03/09/2024 21:37

Mixed bag.

Downstairs, living room, family room and loo I'd say 9.5 out of 10. Hall, kitchen and utility about 8.5, study and dining room about 6.5.

Upstairs, my bedroom and bathroom about 8.5, stairs, upstairs hall and DS2s bedroom about 7.5 (he doesn't live here...). Bathroom about 7, Ds1s room and back bedroom about 5.

A game of two halves really. Ex has been away about 2 months now so we are slowly trying to get things sorted and into a good routine for DS1 and I.

Makingchocolatecake · 03/09/2024 21:45

Our house is always pretty messy cause my adhd brain hates tidying up. I've never heard of steam cleaning grout, is that a thing?

Chocolateorange22 · 03/09/2024 21:51

Not to my standard but wouldn't be embarrassed about having people over

We are generally quite minimalist or have homes for everything. So it looks tidy for most but I can see the cobwebs, mud on the skirting and food up the wall sort of thing.

Now the kids are back I'm working through one room per week to deep clean (alongside usual weekly cleaning). This week is conservatory as the fly poo is making me vom. It's a gym so the only people that go in there are DH and myself but still...

3peassuit · 03/09/2024 21:54

DH’s study 5.5 the rest of the house 9.5. My car is a dustbin on wheels.

Saltedbutter · 03/09/2024 21:55

It’s chaos. I’m down and overwhelmed. Past caring lost of the day. Then occasionally I’ll look around and have a quick rage/tear clean.

Im going to try and get up an hour earlier tomorrow, have a sugary cup of tea, set myself an alarm & blast it because this is making me worse.

Dramatic · 03/09/2024 21:58

I'd say it's fairly messy but nothing that a 29 minute tidy up wouldn't sort, I just can't be arsed.

I meant to say 20 minute, 29 is very specific 😂

booisbooming · 03/09/2024 20:01

It is the last day of the summer holidays. It looks like we’ve been burgled.

😂 Ditto.

Barney16 · 03/09/2024 22:05

Just changed the bed, emptied the bins, cleaned the kitchen she says smugly. However whole house needs a proper clean. I'm so knackered after work that I can't be bothered, weekend I think why should I waste a weekend cleaning. I may need to outsource.

Petunia2024 · 03/09/2024 22:14

We live on a farm so the working kitchen is as it always is, a mucky floor as people come and go all day with boots on. The working kitchen is used by DH and everyone else who works here. The rest of the house is spotless. We have a working kitchen and our kitchen. No boots, shoes or minging clothes allowed when you pass from the working kitchen into the rest of the house. I don’t like dirt or mess in the house.

LBOCS2 · 03/09/2024 22:21

We have piles of stuff dotted about (they're starting to get on my nerves so I'm probably gearing up for a proper clear out soon) but it's not actually messy. Our cleaners came yesterday and they're very good for a tidy before they clean.
