Mullets on kids

Like small kids, under 10. No, just... no.
YABU = You bloody love a mullet on a small child. Looks great!
YANBU = You agree that a mullet is a monstrosity, particularly on a small child.

I spent years jokingly telling my kids I'd ask the barber to give them a mullet and showing them the worst pictures.

Joke was on me when my teenage son actually grew one. The shame of having to be seen with a mulletted person. BlushGrin

He's had it cut now (not because I kept laughing at him. Or maybe it was. At least it's gone.)

Obviously it's hair and it will grow and fashions come and go, and it's always good to have photos to look back on and laugh at.

My son has a mullet, it's styled and looks good, he is 10. Similar to this

@MrsPerfect12 - my 10 year old has his in a similar style - "baby mullet"?

He claims he is going to grow it into a full one. And if that is what he wants, fair play - it's just hair and I have too many other battles with him (general hygiene, school work) this is not a hill to die on

Plus the pictures will be great to embarrass him with later (should he ever change his mind)

Each to their own but I think they look absolutely awful particularly on young children. 🙈

crostini · 27/08/2024 07:36

Love them on little ones!

HoppingPavlova · 27/08/2024 07:38

No idea about the under 10yo thing, they are a monstrosity on anyone of any age.

DS17 got a burst fade a couple of months ago (nope, me neither, anyway it’s like a less drastic semi-mullet that doesn’t go all the way down to nape of neck).
At first I thought wtf but it grew on me and I started to like it. They generally have nice, thick hair that grows fast at that age so may as well experiment.
Not a fan of full on mullets though - giving Bruce from the outback in 1987 vibes.

I can confirm they have been back in style in Aus for a while now. I think they're hideous. I told my kids I would rather they come home with a tattoo than a mullet. So far they have come home with neither.

Not necessarily young but definitely trendy. It is a thing in east London and I'm not sure how I feel about it because when I was growing up this look was worn non-ironically by the tougher kids, not little Caspian at fencing class.

When I was a lot younger it was a look favoured by men you really didn't want to be alone with.

Nope, mullets belong in rivers, not on heads!

Brilliant 😂

Catsmere · 27/08/2024 12:14

They looked ridiculous the first time round and still do. I remember the first time I saw one - didn't realise it was a particular style and thought "Either cut your hair or grow it properly long, you gutless wonder." That said, I'd rather see mullets than undercuts, or the shaved side and hair on top thing, like a reverse tonsure. Saw a bloke with one of those today, even worse because his attempt at a manbun didn't hide the male-pattern baldness showing very clearly through the strands.

RuthCarolscribbler · 19/03/2025 16:46

I agree Mullets on anyone is awful. On a little boy they look nasty .

RuthCarolscribbler · 19/03/2025 16:47

I think mullets look awful and particularly awful on a young child .

HeavenOnTop · 19/03/2025 16:55

I like certain mullets on boys and men, not too long though and styled well.

On the right man they can look hot.

It’s just hair.

TrixieFatell · 19/03/2025 17:27

I like them, far more preferable to the Jack Grealish headband look or the permed look that we see a lot round here.

NadjaofAntipaxos · 19/03/2025 17:35

My seven year old has a baby mullet, he's really proud of it. DH takes him to a very hipster barbers and all the young early twenties barbers have the same hairdo and wanted to do it on DS. I think it's hilarious and looks really cute.
But then we are a very stylish, fashion forward family 😉😉
