I have no idea where we are with Covid, it's not easy to track down a test and they're £2 each! Are people testing if they're unwell - what are workplace policies like? Stay at home until negative? Are people really testing everytime you feel unwell?

dementedpixie · 17/08/2024 19:19

No I'm not testing
Lots of employers tell you to come in if you feel well enough

NAndJIsLockingDown · 17/08/2024 19:19

Unfortunately everyone's acting as though it no longer exists, despite cases being sky high.

We're still taking the usual precautions - masks and SD.

Are you particularly vulnerable?

No, but we should do all we can to protect those who are.

Especially as mPox is now here.

HelloMiss · 17/08/2024 19:22

I'm just carrying on as normal

Wouldn't even think to 'test' if I was unwell and all the masks were chucked out years ago

And you are social distancing? What does that involve?

CormorantStrikesBack · 17/08/2024 19:24

I think the major aren’t testing anymore. I did recently as dh on high dose steroids and classed as vulnerable but he’s finally off steroids so I probably won’t test from now on.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 17/08/2024 19:25

No legal requirements anymore.
It’s recommended to try to avoid others for 5 days if possible but it’s not required.

If one of my team test positive I ask them to check with anyone they’re scheduled to see face to face whether they’re happy to go ahead or if they want to reschedule / change to TEAMS.

obviously if they feel to unwell to work then I expect them to be off sick.

EmberAsh · 17/08/2024 19:25

It wouldn't cross my mind to test for it. If I was too unwell to go out then I wouldn't otherwise I'd carry on as normal.

PonyPatter44 · 17/08/2024 19:25

Nope, I'm not testing. At this point, it's simply not feasible. If someone is still concerned about covid, it's really their responsibility to protect themselves. I'm obviously not going to go and cough on people, and if I see someone with a mask, I'll steer away from them because they're probably vulnerable and / or anxious... but I'm no longer treating it as anything special.

Yes, this .

JockTamsonsBairns · 17/08/2024 19:25

I'm a home carer for the elderly.

Our company's policy is that, if we feel well enough despite testing positive for Covid, we should come to work.

We have been specifically asked not to test though, and are no longer provided with testing kits.

We don't get sick pay, so it's difficult.

HaPPy8 · 17/08/2024 19:26

I work in a hospital and we aren’t even required to test for work

Carrying on as normal is protecting the economy. Cases being sky high is fine as long as it doesn't translate to an abnormal number of deaths. Even then, some years we get a huge number of flu deaths. It's been almost 5 years, life goes on.

DinnaeFashYersel · 17/08/2024 19:27

Haven't tested for a couple of years.

If I'm not well I stay at home in bed until
I feel better - whatever I have.

Ilovemyshed · 17/08/2024 19:27

As far as I am concerned its now just another virus which I may or may not get. Have had all the vaccines, carry on as normal, no distancing or testing or special cleaning. Tin hat is back in the cellar.

dragonfliesandbees · 17/08/2024 19:28

Treat it like any other illness. If you are ill then stay home and keep your distance from others. I don’t test now as knowing it was covid rather than some other virus wouldn’t change the way I acted. I work for the NHS and there is no requirement to test.

gamerchick · 17/08/2024 19:29

You can test if you want. But most employers don't give a toss about COVID now.

gamerchick · 17/08/2024 19:31

Not everyone has the option of staying home if they're ill. Drives me batshit when people keep saying that.
bedridden then yes, can't go to work anyway. If you can then go in, COVID or not

RufustheFactualReindeer · 17/08/2024 19:32

I tested last week, i work 1 day a week in the office and they wouldn’t let me come in, which ss nice as i got a whole hours lie in before i worked from home that day 😀

BiggerBoat1 · 17/08/2024 19:33

Why would you bother testing. If you’re too ill to work, stay at home. Otherwise go to work. No different to any other illness.

spikeandbuffy24 · 17/08/2024 19:33

I test as entitled to antivirals
My work is either WFH or off sick - nobody to come in with covid

They can't enforce that though..

IsItAMidLifeCrisis · 17/08/2024 19:37

Doesnt even cross my mind these days. I guess if you are or have someone vulnerable in the house then you are more likely to consider it. Im still hearing of friends getting it especially when coming back from holidays on a plane. A friend who works in a care home regularly tests as her employer insists.
