August - slow news month coupled with a dumbing down of news journalism in general which results in some BBC breaking news stories being truly mind bogglingly stupid and vacuous.

Unsure why she's a news headline as there are lots of folks who've never heard of her and couldn't give two tossing turnips if she'd broken up or not

Please tell me BBC did not send out a breaking news about this? I disabled them because their idea of important news and mine diverged!

The BBC did a "breaking news" banner for a sleb relationship break up? Strewth. They are getting worse.

They always have reported on celebrities though. Especially celebrity break ups

No they really haven't. Not like this, and certainly not as breaking news. Charles & Di being an obvious exception. Maybe Tom & Nicole.

Probably a cheating scandal but that used to be tabloid territory.

BBC put a lot of entertainment news on the main landing page these days, have done for a while.

I think it's dumbed down a lot. But given that's how the BBC has decided to be, this is quite a reasonable story for them to cover.

I'd heard of her, because that was a year when DD watched Love Island (and I watched with her), and a whole different audience knows the Furies (which sounds splendidly mythological written like that)

I know right! I was so confused as to why I got a breaking news notification on my watch about this! I refuse to google her because next thing you know my social media will be filled with her, although just responding to this thread will likely have the same effect 😩

Sky news did with their massive yellow "breaking news" notifications. It was ridiculous. I honestly thought it was to say they had died or something.

I didn't mind it as breaking news!

It's better than the wars death and destruction they normally put as breaking news.

Ha. Well Chris & Gwyneth are at least superstar level (and spent big chunks of time in London like Tom & Nicole).

No. Some people are interested in celebs. I imagine the BBC hopes to draw some of them in by stories like this in the (futile) hope that they will then decide to pay for a TV licence.

I mean I wouldn't take the news too seriously anyway. I take it with a pinch of salt.

I have a friend who works for a new site so I know what goes on and I know how calculated it all is.

Its very calculated.

The primary thing he told me: is that news is always negative, and it's designed to ebay negative specifically to emotionally manipulate the population.

News is designed to get people to worry and stress about world events

Have you noticed that the news sites tend to always report on the negative things

Wars
Riots
Stabbings
Killings.

Those things happen in the world. But good things also happen in the world , news sites just don't usually write anything about the good things that are happening.

News sites are designed to report negative things only, in order to produce a worried and stressed emotional response from the population.

Even so GP was a big film star and CM was the lead in a big band.

Mollymae and Fury were not even soap stars.

I saw the breakup announced on Sky News and thought they were dead.

They were on a reality tv programme a few years ago. I think her boyfriend’s brother is a boxer famous for being part of the travelling community (I’m not sure about that partt but I think that was it).Other than that, they aren’t known which is why it is so bemusing to see their ‘breakup’ on the national news.

Presumably related to Fannie Mae if significantly newsworthy?
