Passports - is there anything I can do?

Not sure what I’m asking really but DT’s passports haven’t been dispatched and our flight is 6.45am Wednesday.

It’s not looking good is it? Is there anything I can do?

Would be grateful for any constructive advice.

For our son’s on the 7 day service in June, we never even got the dispatch message, just one confirming it was being printed and then it arrived. It came on day 7.

Zanatdy · 15/07/2024 19:55

you can definitely speak to a human at the passport office, might be a bit late though tomorrow unfortunately

TeamPolin · 15/07/2024 19:57

My son's passport was delayed for 13 weeks in the passport chaos back in 2022. I went direct to our nearest passport office, didn't have an appointment, basically just argued my way in. They ended up cancelling my son's application, which was lost in the system and got me one printed by the next morning. Take spare passport photos and proof of ID.

Zippyyyyyy · 15/07/2024 19:58

Thinking of you OP. It’s so stressful.

We had a passport saga for my daughter’s first passport when there was passport chaos on 2022 and had fights booked.

In a desperate last ditch attempt my husband drove to our nearest (200 miles away) passport office (Newport) with no appointment & it wasn’t the same passport office the application was sat with, armed with proof of flights/travel all application details her birth cert etc & it it was approved, printed and collected by him in person that day.

He waited outside from an hour before opening, spoke to someone explained and sat outside opposite the front door waiting for an update.

We thought he might have to stay over night but although a long day we had a passport within 8 hours. Flew the next day.

Sending positive thoughts!

Edited to add: take spare photos we didn’t need them but just in case!

Teddybearpicniccelebration · 15/07/2024 19:59

Fingers crossed 🤞 it arrived tomorrow.

Of course you're not going to get the passports within 48 hours now, if they haven't even been printed or despatched yet @Whatamuckup !

Someone asked further back 'when did you send for them?' From your most recent post it looks like it was 7 days ago. I have never known anyone send for a passport, and get it within 7 days. That was never going to happen. Where did you read that? That it takes just 7 days?! Confused

Also, why on earth did you send for your son's passport just 7 days before your trip abroad?!

Also, lesson learned. NEVER book a holiday abroad unless everyone going on the trip has got a passport that is in date - (and will be in date for the holiday and 3-4 months beyond!)

I agree totally with everything you said. I have no idea why you're getting grief about it.

It's common sense - have a valid passport before you book a holiday abroad.

Jb2182 · 15/07/2024 20:10

If it makes you feel better @Whatamuckup , our passports were printed through the night last Saturday into Sunday and arrived on Monday afternoon. The status page didn't update and still says your passport is being printed. There's still hope!!!!

But it’s a sensible question! How on earth are MN meant to know the answer to when the passports are likely to arrive. Surely the sensible thing to do is to call the passport office and ask for an update 🤷🏻‍♀️

It is a sensible question so we know the state of play... but phrased extremely passive aggressively. Try: have you called them to ask and if so what was their response.

OakTree16 · 15/07/2024 20:19

I went to the passport office last Wednesday to apply for a replacement Lost passport for my dd using the 7 day fast track. I got the email on Friday to say it had been approved. I got a text today saying it would be delivered tomorrow between 10 and 2ish. So 6 days.

DoAClassicCamel · 15/07/2024 20:23

I looked back at my application from when they were quieter and after the printing email I got an email the following day saying that it was being passed for delivery. I’m really sorry but I reckon you’ll be extremely lucky to get them. You need to ring them first thing tomorrow. Good luck.

We did exactly this is 2022. My husband spent the day in Peterborough and came home with a passport. There were moments throughout the day where he thought he wouldn't get it but he came home with it that evening.

KidneyNeeded · 15/07/2024 20:33

The old passports have more than likely been cancelled now

mynameiscalypso · 15/07/2024 20:33

We got DS' new passport a couple of weeks ago. We got it the day after the update saying it had been printed.

rewilded · 15/07/2024 20:35

I hope you get it tomorrow. Everything crossed for you!

Lavengro · 15/07/2024 20:41

You might yet get them tomorrow @Whatamuckup. I did my son's passport online earlier in the year and it took what felt like ages, with the online tracking not changing for days and days and days, and then suddenly it arrived one morning at about 11am, and when I looked at the online info it had only been printed at about 11.30pm the previous night. They work basically round the clock, it seems, and have access to delivery systems that are better than the standard post office offering. Fingers crossed for you.

CheeseDreamsTonight · 15/07/2024 20:54

Try the email address - I had an error on mine and the admin was top notch. They replied to my email and called me to check I had the email. Send a nice polite email to them. [email protected]

Have you contacted the passport office to see when they’ll be dispatched? They were super helpful with me when I contacted them about an issue.

QuackQuackFuckThat · 15/07/2024 21:12

What time were they printed?

DDs was printed at 00:44 on 12th July and arrived first thing on 13th July (Corby office).

🤞

QuackQuackFuckThat · 15/07/2024 21:20

I didn’t receive any dispatch notification from the passport office. Got a text from Royal Mail at 9am on 12th though, to say it would be there the next day.

Passports - is there anything I can do?
Fyngal123 · 15/07/2024 21:21

🤞🏽 for you. I had same in March and it arrived the morning of my flight - mind you it was a night flight. When I rang them whilst chasing they said they update it after the action around 72 hrs. So they probably already posted it. Hope it arrives in time. Stay positive!

This happened to me too. Next thing was royal mail delivery note after the printing status.

I know someone that contacted their MP to get their child’s passport quicker but think that was when there was delays.

Why would you say something is never going to happen just because you have never heard of anyone getting a passport within 7 days.
The passport office seems to be the one government office that is running extremely efficiently and a 7 day turnaround is absolutely possible.
If you're going to try and be a know it all to try to make the op feel bad it would be better to actually be a know it all, all your post has done is make yourself look stupid not the op.
