Passports - is there anything I can do?

Whatamuckup · 15/07/2024 15:27

Not sure what I’m asking really but DT’s passports haven’t been dispatched and our flight is 6.45am Wednesday.

It’s not looking good is it? Is there anything I can do?

Would be grateful for any constructive advice.

Yup that’s right @dementedpixie

Status on the tracking is that they have been approved and are being printed. When I took them last week I was told I couldn’t collect.

I think we’re going to lose the flights.
They say you should receive them within 7 days of the application. It’s 7 days tomorrow but they haven’t been dispatched yet.

Have you had anything from Royal Mail - I got my printed update the same day as my Royal mail we will deliver tomorrow message.
Fingers crossed for you. I know it's a busier time of year but I uploaded the replacement photo on sat 13/01 and received my daughter's passport on tues 16/01
I think along with dvla passport office are one of the more efficient government depts

Whatamuckup · 15/07/2024 18:07

@Ineffable23 Gosh they would have been in date if that’s the case. Needn’t have gone through this. But that’s not how I read it. I almost don’t want to know

@Ineffable23 if it's for the EU it's 3 months remaining from the date you leave the EU country

I imagine the old passports will have been cancelled as part of the renewal process. When you do it via post they don't start the renewal process until they receive the old passport back.

ChishiyaBat · 15/07/2024 18:09

I hope tou manage to get something sorted, or they arrive tomorrow. My sons turned up before I even had a postage notification🤞🏻

Whatamuckup · 15/07/2024 17:49

@lateatwork Thanks for the positive encouragement 👍
@TheSquareMile it’s really kind of you to post that number for me.

I rang it earlier and it’s fully automated and just gives the same info as when you punch your reference number into the online tracking.

You can talk to a human on the passport office line by choosing different options. I can’t remember what they were but I did it twice recently.

andymary · 15/07/2024 16:19

If they've been dispatched then the passport office can't do anything.
When did it get dispatched, today? Or last week? Any tracking number for Royal Mail?

The whole point of the post is they they haven't been dispatched.

meganorks · 15/07/2024 18:13

What was the last message you had from them? Because I got a text to say application 'approved and will let you know when we dispatch' one day, next day they were printed and ready to go to delivery company, then the day after they arrived.

🤞hopefully they come, but nothing you can do about it now

Antiperspirant · 15/07/2024 18:15

Actually thinking about it I remember emailing them quite a lot when I had this issue so perhaps I went online and filled something out!? Can't remember for sure but it's worth looking maybe!

TheSquareMile · 15/07/2024 18:24

@Whatamuckup

Can you contact them online via their webchat, OP?

lateatwork · 15/07/2024 17:48

What a helpful, reassuring post.

Also- my child's passport arrived within 30 hours of being told it was being printed and 48 hours after approval. So not only unhelpful, but not wedded in accuracy.

Oh and this was last week.

Edited

Likewise. I got mine within five days of applying. Arrived last week.

You've been unlucky, OP!

WimbyAce · 15/07/2024 18:29

Good idea to try webchat. If it is automated type speak to real person.

PotNoodleNancy · 15/07/2024 18:29

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you OP as it might still arrive in time.

I had the email saying application approved on 1st July, another email saying it had been printed on 2nd July and it arrived 5th July via DHL.

However, I live abroad and so don’t have access to the fast track service, yet it was still a very quick turnaround.

The only thing I’d add is you’re meant to sign for delivery of your old passport that will be returned a few days later. You might need to see if you can delay them sending it to you until you return from holiday?

chutneypig · 15/07/2024 18:35

Earlier this month I received my passport the day after I got the text message saying it had been printed. I've just checked back and didn't receive any notification from the passport office that it had been dispatched, only from Royal Mail. Hopefully you'll get that message tomorrow, they gave a timed delivery slot too.

I got this text on Thursday and my daughters passport was delivered Friday. I got texts from Royal Mail before this messages but thought it was her old one but was her new one 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Of course you're not going to get the passports within 48 hours now, if they haven't even been printed or despatched yet @Whatamuckup !

Someone asked further back 'when did you send for them?' From your most recent post it looks like it was 7 days ago. I have never known anyone send for a passport, and get it within 7 days. That was never going to happen. Where did you read that? That it takes just 7 days?! Confused

Also, why on earth did you send for your son's passport just 7 days before your trip abroad?!

Also, lesson learned. NEVER book a holiday abroad unless everyone going on the trip has got a passport that is in date - (and will be in date for the holiday and 3-4 months beyond!)

Jesus I bet you're popular.^^

WhatsMyEmail · 15/07/2024 18:56

My son's first passport was approved on the 12th June, printed on the 13th June and delivered by Royal Mail on the 14th June @ 10:30am.

We're in England and did the standard timeframe. Passport was delivered by 24hr tracked service (not sure if we paid more for that or if it was included).

Good luck OP.

It took 6 days from applying online to receiving it, this included a whole weekend. This was in April tbf.

Panda8383 · 15/07/2024 19:00

Fingers crossed they come tomorrow and you can enjoy your holiday x

Lucked · 15/07/2024 19:10

Just looked at the timeline of my passport

14/5 email. Passport approved and being printed
15/5 email. Has been printed will be passed to delivery partners
15/5 text from Royal Mail. Your passport will be delivered 16/5
16/5 delivered

MasterShardlake · 15/07/2024 19:15

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/07/2024 16:12

But it’s a sensible question! How on earth are MN meant to know the answer to when the passports are likely to arrive. Surely the sensible thing to do is to call the passport office and ask for an update 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you think the poster should call the passport office then suggest they do this.

The faux pretence that you're assuming she's called them already is pointless

Both me and DH got ours within 5 days.

BashfulClam · 15/07/2024 19:20

What was weird about my last one was DH got his the day before mine and got tracking details. I got the text to say it was being passed to delivery service and I’d get tracking info but nothing further then it just came through the door the following day.

Teddybearpicniccelebration · 15/07/2024 19:26

What time are you leaving on Wednesday?

Portfun24 · 15/07/2024 19:40

Last month I got a text they received it on Tuesday 11th June, it was approved 14th June, printed on the 15th June and would be sent to delivery partner. Text from royal mail they had it and would be delivered Monday 17th, which it was.

If you haven't had a text/email from royal mail yet you likely will tomoro and itl come wed but praying it comes tomoro

AlohaRose · 15/07/2024 19:44

Teddybearpicniccelebration · 15/07/2024 19:26

She says 06.45 am in her initial post.
