To wonder if MN has changed much in 13 or so years?

Reregistered on MN to check out the SN board and possibly post for some thoughts. My old user name is no more and I have no idea if some of the old faces are still around, but I found my self thinking 'Do people still offer a biscuit?' 'Do people still vehemently argue their position of the order of knives, forks and spoons?' Do people still talk about the moldies?'

There was another thread that rings a bell about furniture legs....possibly Victorian furniture but I can't for the life of me remember...I do recall it making me chuckle a lot.

This has honestly made me so nostalgic.

It’s changed massively. I’ve been here for 20+ years. Remember when it used to be funny? Those days are gone. Every post seems to revolve about anxiety and ADHD now.

It’s just aged really, which is understandable. No longer feels current.

No I don't think it's changed all that much. When I joined in 2004 I blundered into the middle of the biggest bunfight I'd ever read online.
Moldies gets talked about rarely, people still make cutlery organisation their hill to die on and the grip appears to have replaced the biscuit.

Not as funny, not as friendly. Can still find pockets of lovely support though.

I have been a member for about 12 years on and off - and it’s stayed relatively the same.

Although there’s a lot more people who think posts are planted by Labour, Tory, Reform HQ. I’ve been accused of being two different parties in the last 24 hours 😂 And you know you’re being crackers if someone accuses you of being a journalist from the Daily Mail…

so I think overall the paranoia is much worse than it used to be and things are more tense & less fun

I've been here 15 years. It used to be funny now it's all Adhd diagnoses, SEN, and anti -trans people. It used to be light- hearted and helpful to any mothers.

It was around 2005/6 when I joined....quite close knit then, though as I said understandable it has grown.

I’ve been here about 14 years.

It has changed. I don’t notice any cliques - it’s rare to read of meet ups and their aftermath. And no one’s ever offering to race to rescue a woman in urgent domestic distress (remember that?) accompanied by a thread full of anxious countermanding advice and entreaties. Essentially it’s much less of a community.

When I arrived, looking for school advice, staying for the chat, falling into the first of the long current run of Archers threads - I felt noticeably older than most posters. Somehow the average age seems to have crept up - so there are plenty of people of my own generation now, taking postgrad degrees and spending money on clothes and delighting in memories of 1970s vegetation cooking. That’s all great.

And we have Black MN and a Mature Study and Retraining board now, as well as a Boarding School topic in Education - all very welcome.

The level of wit has decreased - but then, life is harder than it was - perhaps people have more pressing concerns …

Sounds like it's changed more than I had imagined it would, wishful thinking I guess but also hearing some positives.

I do remember the rallying, the mile for Maude, the support and the camaraderie and I remember snorting tea out of my nose laughing at some threads. Maybe I am romanticising a little to be fair.
