Reasons not to vote Tory

Aladdinzane · 02/07/2024 16:16

As the Tory faithful here appear to be terrified of a Labour government ( judging by all the threads) lets remind ourselves for reasons not to vote Tory.

  1. Jacob Rees-Mogg: The Haunted Pencil, my most hoped for Portillo moment.
  2. Liz Truss: For being completely unhinged.
  3. 14 years of public sector decline.

Any more?

Partygate.

WhatHaveIFound · 02/07/2024 16:19

NHS waiting lists and a lack of access to a GP
The rise in food banks
Brexit

EVHead · 02/07/2024 16:20

Lies, lies, more lies, doubling down on lies. Total disregard for standards in public office.

DontBiteTheCat · 02/07/2024 16:21

The record number of children living in poverty.

BobbyBiscuits · 02/07/2024 16:23

COVID. PPE contracts, Boris Johnson. Post office scandal. The whole fucking lot of them being smug lying tossers from Hades.
They want to close down the NHS and wish all poor and sick people would simply disappear.
They don't want people with no money to get richer.
They don't think the rules apply to them.
They pretend to care about women when they treat us like third class citizens who are auxiliary to their male counterparts goals in life.
Rishi Sunak doesn't know how to use a SHOP.

Frosty1000 · 02/07/2024 16:25

Brexit and the impact that it's had on our country and the economy.

The eye watering amount of money wasted on HS2 and Rwanda

They may claim to know what a woman is but they really don't give a flying fuck about women's rights so won't protect us and have caused all this malarkey.

Jutemat · 02/07/2024 16:40

Hancock with a tongue down a colleagues throat whilst we all wore masks and didnt visit family.

Aladdinzane · 02/07/2024 16:40

Austerity. A fiscal choice to cut that hard and that fast which impacted the country's recovery from the GFC and destroyed hundreds of thousands of lives.

All the while giving the "skivers vs strivers" narrative which now prevails with the hysterical "high earning" masses on MN to this day.

Five PMs and seven chancellors since 2016

Swingingvvoter · 02/07/2024 16:49

We need a change but don't imagine that they will help with many problems.
The last Labour gov admitted they failed on child poverty and hospitals were underfunded and in crisis.
However, the Blair /Brown last years were of course savaged by a global financial melt down!

All governments are struggling with the legacy of that global financial melt down /followed by a global pandemic /followed by.... Ukraine.

We are very insular looking in the UK thinking these problems are ours and yet in Europe, some more socialist governments have the same struggles.

I would like to see a return of sure start centers and initiatives like that.
But unfortunately, aside from the fact we just need change, I can't say a single policy or soundbites I agree with or have faith in.

Aladdinzane · 02/07/2024 16:50

"The last Labour gov admitted they failed on child poverty and hospitals were underfunded and in crisis."

They reduced child poverty massively and the NHS worked far better than it did now, there was hardly a crisis.

@Jutemat
I found that far more disturbing than Boris bday party /keir s beer.

NetballHoop · 02/07/2024 16:51

Everything Boris Johnson said and did.
Chris Grayling being made a minister.
Every penny of our money given to Michelle Mone.

DeadlyKnightshade · 02/07/2024 16:52

Add in the Owen Paterson scandal.

Swingingvvoter · 02/07/2024 16:53

Oh there definitely was a crisis op!. As ever if you don't care for instance about maternity services, but your dad's heart op went well you may say, yeah it was brilliant.
Not so for thousands of women put at severe risk because of underfunding.

Saschka · 02/07/2024 16:54

I have 14 reasons not to vote Tory:

2010
2011
2012
2013
2014
2015
2016
2017
2018
2019
2020
2021
2022
2023
2024

How anyone can vote for more of the same is beyond me. I’d choose Count Binface over another year of the Tories.

NetballHoop · 02/07/2024 16:54

Dominic Cummings and his eye test at Barnard Castle.

Jobsharenightmare · 02/07/2024 16:54

It's pretty clear to everyone that the Tories have had their chance and blown it. But don't throw the female at birth baby out with the bath water and vote Labour!

You're conflating two separate issues - many people with vaginas don't want Labour because they are giving away our rights... that doesn't mean said people will vote Tory at all.

The Tories only make platitudes to your minority cause, because they know they'll never actually have to do anything about it.

Rishi Sunak doesn't know how to use a SHOP.

All of this and more.

Mainly the lies and sleeze and entitlement to governance.

Dreadful damage done over the last 14 years and will take years to work through the problems.

Figgygal · 02/07/2024 20:54

Because they're a fucking disaster
Whilst also being self serving, incompetent and corrupt all at once.

"Rishi Sunak doesn't know how to use a SHOP"
Might be the best reason though

Schmoana · 02/07/2024 20:57

Owen Paterson. The first sign of Boris’s complete lack of integrity (if it was ever in any doubt). And after that he sacked anyone with any ounce of decency from the Tory party

AhBiscuits · 02/07/2024 21:01

They lost me at Rwanda.

LightSpeeds · 02/07/2024 21:01

The decimation of every public service.
