Reasons not to vote Tory

Aladdinzane · 02/07/2024 16:16

As the Tory faithful here appear to be terrified of a Labour government ( judging by all the threads) lets remind ourselves for reasons not to vote Tory.

  1. Jacob Rees-Mogg: The Haunted Pencil, my most hoped for Portillo moment.
  2. Liz Truss: For being completely unhinged.
  3. 14 years of public sector decline.

Any more?

Gosh.. l am voting Tory.
I need my pension protecting.
I want a better future for my Grandson.

BarHumbugs · 03/07/2024 10:47

Big Society. Get charities and volunteers to take over the role of the state. Shut down the state run services and facilities, defund the charities.

Using disabled people as a scapegoat. See also refugees, the EU, immigrants...

Voting against a bill that would force rental housing to be fit for human habitation.

Scrapping the school building improvement/up keep plan and waiting for the buildings to fall down instead.

Scrapping the plan to offer affordable wrap around care at all primary schools.

Michael Gove's adoption targets. Pretty much everything Michael Gove did with education. For starters.

To where? Brexit’s buggered most young people.

What exactly do you believe Labour is going to do to your pension, Moier? and why?

PadstowGirl · 03/07/2024 10:58

Oh yes! That's another for the list, Brexit.

And you think no labour politician would have broken a single rule.

How naive you are to assume they're going to be such total angels

so by this rationale I assume you’d rather keep the Tories in because no other politician could ever be expected to behave with more integrity or humanity??!!

they don’t take away your soul at Politician school.

there are decent people out there in the world who are also MPs - it’s just that after 14 years of Tory self serving rule this is what we all now are conditioned to expect.

this is so unbelievably sad.

PadstowGirl · 03/07/2024 11:04

I do have some respect for certain Tory MPs, I think Sajid Javid had done amazing ideas in his short time as health minister. I hope that he sees sense and joins Labour.
But come on! The likes of Rees Mogg? Really?

So much sewage in our local river it has signs everywhere telling people to keep away and what used to be a lovely chalk stream teeming with wildlife has now been pronounced dead.

Our Tory MP voted to allow them to do it. I have on record all her justifications. Now she's putting leaflets through our door saying "fighting against sewage in our rivers".

Utter hypocrite.

The Tories. Force feeding you shit then offering to help you throw it up again.

cupcaske123 · 03/07/2024 11:10

Suella Braverman and her abject cruelty. Describing 'swarms' of migrants, saying homelessness was a 'lifestyle choice ' and being obsessed with sending people to Rwanda alongside her various laws.

Boris Johnson saying 'let the bodies pile high'. Letting COVID run rampage in old people's homes, partying while people couldn't go to funerals, hiding in a fridge to avoid journalists, a constant stream of lies, giving millions in contracts to his friends, wasting billions on PPE. His utter contempt for the people of this country.

Liz Truss adding to a cost of living crisis with her ridiculous budget and adding hundreds to mortgages.

Theresa May and Windrush. Ripping people out of their homes and lives, denying them medical care and wrongly deporting them where some of them died. Grenfell. Child poverty and the housing crisis. The introduction of Universal Credit which made people a lot poorer and had a five week wait.

Millions using foodbanks and millions of children living in absolute poverty. A footballer getting the government to do a U turn on feeding hungry children.

The disproportionate effect of austerity on women through cuts in benefits, lack of support for disabled children, lack of support for carers, lack of funding for domestic abuse organisations and refuges, lack of mental health services, lack of maternity care, cuts to the public sector, nearly non existent rape convictions.

Introducing Trans ideology into schools and the public sector. Sexual predators into hospital wards and prisons.

The NHS erasing the word 'woman' from their website and literature. Women described as 'uterus havers' and birthing people instead of mothers. Chest feeding. Cervix havers.

Billions spent on HS2.

Rwanda scheme.

People dying waiting for essential treatment and diagnosis. People dying waiting for ambulances. People dying on trollies in corridors.

The rotten state of children's teeth as there's no access to a dentist.

Sewage in our rivers and waterways.

The billions in profits made by utility companies and a cost of living crisis where people had to choose between heating and eating.

Crumbling schools and the closure of youth clubs, community centres and sure start.

The massive rise in knife crime.

Tens of thousands of cuts to the police force.

Cuts to prison staff, overcrowded prisons, early release of prisoners due to lack of space.

Mental health crisis with no access to services.

Brexit and the divisive toxic rhetoric that accompanied it. The lies about the NHS. The racist poster. The devastating consequences and the opportunities it deprived people of.

Glamorous24 · 03/07/2024 11:11

So those who are scared that their grandchildren will
end up paying more taxes in future under a Labour government (because let’s face it that is the only reason why anyone still votes Tory isn’t it?)

I take it that whatever we say about lack of public services, teachers, health care, crime prevention, mental health support - the list goes on

all of the things that a society needs to function and not become a third world country where the poor are left to starve to death (oh look, we’re already half way there)

none of these things would possibly move you to see why a right wing govmt could be detrimental?

Not to mention the fact that if you’re unlucky enough to work in the Arts sector in this country (because I know it will come as a shock to the high earning MN massive, but not all of us university educated folk went into banking or finance)

then your job, salary and funding have all gone down the toilet over the last few years of Tory rule and especially since Brexit.

but hey, at least we still haven’t had to pay more tax.

andymary · 03/07/2024 11:15

Another useless, nonsense thread.

Once you figure that out, you can vote properly.

Moonmelodies · 03/07/2024 11:16

Don't forget that pandemic we had under the Tories.

COVID. PPE contracts, Boris Johnson. Post office scandal. The whole fucking lot of them being smug lying tossers from Hades.
They want to close down the NHS and wish all poor and sick people would simply disappear.
They don't want people with no money to get richer.
They don't think the rules apply to them.
They pretend to care about women when they treat us like third class citizens who are auxiliary to their male counterparts goals in life.
Rishi Sunak doesn't know how to use a SHOP.

Yep . Well summed up !

When you put it like that, why do people want more of this? Crazy to give a vote to this lot. I suppose some will say the usual all are the same, they aren't.

Reasons not to vote Tory
TammyOne · 03/07/2024 11:39

Brexit.
HS2.
PPE corruption.
Contaminated water.
NHS dentistry (RIP)
Child poverty.
Michael Goves’s destruction of good rounded education for state school children.
Dominic Cummings.
Liz Truss.
Effective legalisation of rape.
Putting men in women’s prisons.
Boarded up high streets.
Universal credit which traps folk in poverty.
Boris and ALL his lies.
All the deaths and suffering that occurred due to a broken NHS, including the sheer indignity of it all.
Shortage of GPs.
Libraries (RIP).
Stamp duty stupidness in 2020 that pushed house prices up and they have never come down.
Mortgage interest rates tripling in a day.
Brexit again.

I think Angela Raynor is a gold plated idiot and Starmer is a coward BUT I don’t think the Labour lot are as downright self serving, morally bankrupt and revolting as this current bunch of festering turds we have been calling a government.
I’ll be at the polls when they open and I can’t fucking wait.

The decline is over 14 years. It began straight away with Osborne and Cameron’s savage cuts. The last few years have seen Brexit, law breaking and complete incompetence that have made it worse. Yes, looking at them will conform what the 10 before already tell you - don’t vote Tory.
Oh, you mean the pandemic and Ukraine? Pretty minor in the grand scheme of the decline.

61% of working age adults living in poverty live in a household where at least one adult is working. 11% of all workers live in a household in poverty. In work poverty has never been such a problem as now

BBC news latest

'Even Conservative backing newspapers, The Sun and The Times say vote Labour' 🐀 leaving a sinking ship springs to mind.

Only very die hard Tories seem to defend the indefensible now.

He's a former footballer, played for Man Utd and England.

His wealth will insulate him from the majority of the damage the Tories have done. But he's empathetic and can understand how they have damaged the majority of people's lives
