To ask how much you’d expect to pay for a holiday

Sparksi · 21/06/2024 19:43

7 nights, 4 or 5 star, out of school holiday season, all inclusive. Two adults and a baby.
We’re pricing it up next year and I’m really surprised at the cost - what would you expect to pay for this?

behindthemall · 21/06/2024 19:43

£1,000-£1,500 per adult. I don’t have a baby but I think sometimes they go free?

Nw22 · 21/06/2024 19:44

5000

HippeePrincess · 21/06/2024 19:44

6-10k? Depends on the location really. I’ve never been because of the cost.

thedendrochronologist · 21/06/2024 19:44

£1000 per adult minimum for somewhere ok/nice

£1500 for low end lux.

craigth162 · 21/06/2024 19:45

About £2k

thedendrochronologist · 21/06/2024 19:45

I mean in Spain not Dubai!

Sparksi · 21/06/2024 19:45

Okay, we’re looking at nice hotels short-haul for the sake of short flights. We can’t do better than £1500-1900 per person, baby does travel for free. Seems standard then!

OP posts:
Lighttodark · 21/06/2024 19:45

1500 per adult seems about right

CallThatCloudy · 21/06/2024 19:46

UK? Europe? Worldwide? Economy / Business / First Class travel?

More info needed!

Start at a few thousand...

Europe, economy travel but nice hotel with all inclusive restaurants as well as buffet.

Depends where and who's definition of 4/5star it is.

For a start long haul going to be significantly more than europe. The UK airport you fly from can make a difference. But Tunisia is going to be a lot cheaper than the same standard of hotel in Spain or carribean.

bridgetreilly · 21/06/2024 19:48

Yes, I’d expect at least £3k, I’m afraid.

Notimeforaname · 21/06/2024 19:48

1500-1900pp for a nice 4 or 5 star is great.

Notimeforaname · 21/06/2024 19:49

Lots of lovely places in Greece. Try north Africa too.

CallThatCloudy · 21/06/2024 19:49

Lots of places to look, but British Airways Holidays might be a good starting point - surprisingly they have good value all inclusive options that include seats, hold luggage and a big range of hotels, especially in the main European cities, but other places too. We did three nights in Vienna this year for less thann £600! (Not what you are looking for, I know!)

What?? That’s insane. I’d never pay more than £1000 per adult out of school holiday time for a short haul all inclusive holiday. There is absolutely no need.

the2andahalfmillion · 21/06/2024 19:52

Which dates? Let the mumsnet massive find you something actually reasonable and high quality ;)

welshweasel · 21/06/2024 19:52

£2.5k max for the 3 of you for 5 star AI out of holidays.

welshweasel · 21/06/2024 19:53

When do you want to travel?

CallThatCloudy · 21/06/2024 19:53

Also you could easily do a cruise for that price - it would certainly meet your all in and buffet needs!

the2andahalfmillion · 21/06/2024 19:56

Also, avoid package companies and brokers like the plague. Build your own, it will be much better value.

do you need a nursery/ crèche? If so that will massively limit your choices and push up the likely costs.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 21/06/2024 19:57

We cruise and generally don’t pay more than £3k for a week for 2 of us and that’s with a balcony cabin for a fly cruise, can be much cheaper with inside or sea view and they are basically all inclusive except drinks.

We paid £1300 each for 2 weeks cruise in the Canaries next January in a balcony cabin😎

I know cruising isn’t for everyone but I love it.

Wontletmeusemynormalname · 21/06/2024 19:57

Unless your wanting a sea hut in the Maldives, some of the posts are ridiculous!

We done 10 nights in a 4/5* Hotel in Egypt over Xmas (so in school holidays) for £3.5k. 2 adults 2 teens.

Alot also depends on where you actually want to go.

FTPM1980 · 21/06/2024 19:58

Short haul europe is going to limit your dates presumably. April-September?
That doesn't give much scope for "outside school holidays" in England.
Easter falls funny next year so Easter hols could cover most of April. Then you have the early May Bank hol, and then two weeks of half term for late May Bank hol. Then some schools break up as early as 11 July.

Again depends what you class as 4/5star but I can find holidays sold as 4 star rating for 900 pp in June

NoseNothing · 21/06/2024 20:02

We only do 5 star All Inclusive “Plus” in Greece and/or Canaries and have never spent more than £3.3k on two adults + under 5. We are going as a family of four this year for the first time and it’s costing us £3k for 5 star Tenerife. You could easily do it for less. Depends on what your wish list is like for facilities, location etc. We are quite particular.
