To ask how much you’d expect to pay for a holiday

7 nights, 4 or 5 star, out of school holiday season, all inclusive. Two adults and a baby.
We’re pricing it up next year and I’m really surprised at the cost - what would you expect to pay for this?

Am sure you could go outside school holidays for maximum £2k for two people. Also try booking the flights and hotels separately as it can work out cheaper.

It’s mad that as a family of 6 we could find a holiday cheaper than that/ about that price-the fact that it’s a hotel and you’ve a baby makes it difficult for that, we go eurocamp which is amazing, mobile homes.

@HippeePrincess
No wonder you've never been if you think a week in the sun is £3k per person!!
I routinely go on week long holidays to very nice hotels for £5/700pp

I mean I’d assumed long haul from the original post for some reason. I was basing this on the prices when I was looking at honeymoons 15 years ago (didn’t go!), and then family holiday (in school hols)in bog standard accommodation over the past few year (also haven’t actually gone). I haven’t seriously looked since and considering the prices of even UK holidays currently I figured a lovely hotel, all inclusive where the food is excellent, in a nice destination would be very expensive. How are you getting this including flights and all inclusive for £500?

Simonjt · 22/06/2024 08:08

Around £1,200-1,600 before flights per adult.

Gingerbread981 · 22/06/2024 08:13

We are going to a 4 all inclusive on a Greek island, 2 adults 2 kids in school holidays for £2700. So I’d expect to pay less than that for a 5 in term time 1 baby.
check out Jet2 and EasyJet holidays.

SocoBateVira · 22/06/2024 08:27

Depends as well what you mean by out of school holiday season. Your money will go much further in mid May or the last week of Sept than in early July, for example. If you can pick a time where none of Europe is off school, that'll help.

I don't go AI, it's rarely worth it and ties you down, we go B&B. Also not stuck to school terms, last year Turkey in August was £1400 for 2, Portugal in October £950 for 2.
The MN obsession with 5* is silly, I've stayed in many 3/4 and they were fabulous, you're only sleeping there.

BollockstoThis1 · 22/06/2024 09:02

It also depends where you are flying from usually flying from the north is more expensive, as are weekend flights (if you can fly mid week money can be saved), whether you go say mid May or end of June beginning of July or early November, what the hotel is like is it a true 4 or 5 with excellent reviews in a desirable resort/area etc. Personally, if I were you I would swerve the AI at this stage and go somewhere really nice for you two and avoid the whacky races madness of AI until they are 5 or 6 and wanting playmates, activities and an ice cream, drink and or a snack every 20 minutes.

Tui has 7 night all inclusive holidays in Morocco late April 25 for under £1000 per adult. Baby appears to be free. We went earlier this year and would go again.

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 22/06/2024 09:22

Depends where you are going , when (summer season will have higher prices even if it's outside of UK school holidays) and the airport and company you're flying with.

Up to £2500 should be doable .

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 22/06/2024 10:07

I got Dominican Republic in jan for two adults for under £3k

Okay, we’re looking at nice hotels short-haul for the sake of short flights. We can’t do better than £1500-1900 per person, baby does travel for free. Seems standard then!

Edited

This is what it cost us each for a fully inclusive week in Malta about 5 years ago so would agree that's about right
