can I wear Birkenstocks to a wedding?

Wedding is outdoors (or at least partially outdoors) on a farm, and the legal ceremony has already happened - this is the celebration of their marriage. They have sent out proper invites (if that matters). Not sure if it is too informal or not? I don't want to wear heels and I do not currently have any other flat shoes that go with my dress so would have to buy some tomorrow if the answer to my question is a resounding 'no'!

Thanks in advance

I would, but then I wear them everywhere in the summer as they are the only sandals I can physically be comfortable in. There’ll be lots saying you need heels and delicacy though…

Didimum · 20/06/2024 22:27

What colour are they? Sounds fine for a farm venue.

SweetGingerTea · 20/06/2024 22:27

no

fluffiphlox · 20/06/2024 22:27

Wear wellies. 😀

EC22 · 20/06/2024 22:28

I wouldn’t.

DappledThings · 20/06/2024 22:28

Of course you can.

RabbitsandGuineaPigs · 20/06/2024 22:29

No. You don’t need heels, just a pair of nice sandals or wedges for an informal celebration.

Birkenstocks are only suitable for walking from a changing room to a pool, and even that’s pushing it.

Wear whatever the fuck you want

Don't ask MN about wedding attire

PinkTonic · 20/06/2024 22:30

I think no, and I love and wear them all summer.

nutella8 · 20/06/2024 22:30

Of course you can... it would make for a good chuckle or two.

RefusingToPlayYourGames · 20/06/2024 22:30

If you're going to a wedding on a beach, yes. Any other wedding, no.

It's invitations, not invites. An invitation is to invite you

BeBopBeBop · 20/06/2024 22:32

I would say with what dress/outfit, but only because for me some things look great with Birkenstock and some don't. Honestly Ii wouldn't judge you either way - I rarely remember what others wear at weddings. But I know for me depending on the outfit I'd feel wrong.

Singleandproud · 20/06/2024 22:32

On a farm go for it, I'd probably wear an enclosed shoe on a farm though something neutral like a white converse or superga perhaps due to stones, general grit/dirt if dusty and I tend to get bitten to pieces so would expect more midges than another venue.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 20/06/2024 22:33

It's not even the actual wedding. It's a celebration

They're Birkenstocks, which can easily look enough like a pair of plain sandals, not Crocs

Wake up on the wrong side of the bed love? No need for this. If you don't care don't bloody respond to the threat

Indianajet · 20/06/2024 22:36

I wore trainers to my son's wedding. To be fair, so did he.

Agreed. You'll just get a load of people insistent you're committing a huge footwear crime. Which you aren't.

Are they the proper sandal type or the slip-on type? Not that it matters, I'm just curious. Both absolutely fine.

People who get uppity about other people wearing comfortable shoes are very silly

Tintackedsea · 20/06/2024 22:38

My pal wore some to my wedding. It mattered not a jot to me or, I would imagine, anyone else there. I only remember it because I have a photo of her and it popped up today!

JulesJules · 20/06/2024 22:38

Yes

hattie43 · 20/06/2024 22:39

I live in mine in the summer but no I wouldn't wear them to a wedding

Cattery · 20/06/2024 22:39

No! 😱

YellowHairband · 20/06/2024 22:39

I don't think a lack of heels is an issue. I think Birkenstocks are too casual for a wedding, unless it is very informal.

CheeseWisely · 20/06/2024 22:41

Could not tell you what any of our wedding guests had on their feet if my life depended on it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wear the Birkenstocks, it will make absolutely zero difference to anyone's day, and you'll certainly look less silly than the Woman trying to pick her way through a farmyard in stilettos.

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 20/06/2024 22:43

If it’s on a farm, in a barn, bell tents, outdoors type vibe: yes.

And anything else : also yes

As long as they aren’t ancient and scruffy
