By setting post boxes in key constituencies on fire or otherwise delaying the post collection?

Who is "them"

heldinadream · 12/06/2024 20:34

Who? The election officials, those well-known arsonist terrorist anarchists?

If you're in a key seat then some one might pour water in the post box or something

The election officials wouldn't go anywhere near the post box - they wouldn't see the votes they'd be destroyed.

Surely if it's a key seat and might be close then your be ruining votes for all parties?

NuffSaidSam · 12/06/2024 20:42

I don't think it would be a very effective method. You'd have to set thousands upon thousands of post boxes alight to significantly impact the result.

Not if your voters don't usually postal vote as much

The signature on your postal vote has to match the one on your application, the boxes are sealed and all votes can be traced due to numbers on the ballot paper so no, “they” are not tampering with them.

beingoffwork · 12/06/2024 20:45

I can’t see anyone would be that bothered

Aussieland · 12/06/2024 20:46

This is where conspiracy theories are born

Createausername1970 · 12/06/2024 20:46

???

Most constituencies have more than one post box and as far as I know there isn't a set day to put your vote in the post. So sabotaging one post box on one day isn't really going to sway anything - and could destroy votes FOR the chosen party as well as against.

Or am I missing something obvious?

FOJN · 12/06/2024 20:46

Wouldn't that rather rely on most postal votes being returned on the same day and loads of post boxes being sabotaged.

Not impossible but highly unlikely.

I live in a marginal.

How are you going to work out which post box I'm going to put my postal vote in, throughout the entire country?

Myself and other people I know got postal votes due to variation in work location, long working hours at least 60 minutes from home, being a student elsewhere in the country, etc.

ilovesooty · 12/06/2024 20:46

Ridiculous.

I suppose it depends on the popularity of the post box

To be clear I'm not doing it. Your vote would be safe, it's what I was wondering if I should do to keep mine safe, post it outside the constituency
