By setting post boxes in key constituencies on fire or otherwise delaying the post collection?

OP posts:
nobeans · 12/06/2024 20:48

Ok ok ill rephrase it.

How do I know my vote is going to arrive safely and be counted?

Noosnom · 12/06/2024 20:48

Prison and incredibly ineffective.

It looks like people can start posting votes from the end of next week. It would have to be a collosal, and obvious, campaign against many post boxes to even slightly make a difference.

I like Jess Ennis's gold one. But it's in Sheffield.

Hahahaha love it! That made me giggle

Do they have much cctv on post boxes?

No but people have been put in prison before for fraud over postal votes- I have no idea how they catch them mind!

nobeans · 12/06/2024 20:48

To be clear I'm not doing it. Your vote would be safe, it's what I was wondering if I should do to keep mine safe, post it outside the constituency

No you need to wrap it in a waterproof flame retardant ironclad safe and send it in the dead of night by secret invisible carrier pigeon.
I thought everyone knew that?

Misthios · 12/06/2024 20:50

Aussieland · 12/06/2024 20:46

This is where conspiracy theories are born

Reminds me of the election - or was it the Brexit referendum - where "they" were rubbing out crosses made in the pencils supplied and people were being urged to use a biro instead.

That was equally unhinged.

That's even more batshit. What's to stop a deranged post box arsonist doing it in another constituency?

Badassnameforadojo · 12/06/2024 20:51

Someone would have to hit the post boxes over and over to make any difference. Postal votes are sent in dribs and drabs. They’re not all posted on the same day. You think someone is actually planning this? When it won’t make a blind bit of difference?

Why would they do it there?? The one I'm in is the one they are fighting over. There's no point setting fire to the ones in safe seats

That's reassuring. I see I can hand mine in at a polling station but I have to fill in a form when I'm there. I might just do that.

The signature on your postal vote has to match the one on your application, the boxes are sealed and all votes can be traced due to numbers on the ballot paper so no, “they” are not tampering with them.

They wouldn't need to tamper with it they could destroy it

Misthios · 12/06/2024 20:55

You can't know for sure.

How do you know the vote you put in the ballot box will be counted and not get accidentally caught up with another one for the opposing party.

All you can do is trust that everyone does their allotted job correctly. And don't worry about it.

I did this last time because I left it too late to post. It was fine.

See thing is I would trust everyone but now I've seen how militant the trump supporters can get I'm thinking...what's to stop uk political fanatics making all the votes too soggy to read

Large scale voter fraud isn’t a thing here. It’s not a thing in the US either.

You don’t. And that’s what makes postal votes so exciting!!

or, 99.9% of the post gets through. We open the postal votes at the count in front of independent witnesses. You can also nominate someone to drop off your postal vote at a polling station on the 4th.

You’d have the trust the person not to burn/drown your vote (which we would seal in a special wallet and pass to an election official who tours the county for this very purpose).

TBH your best bet is carrier pigeon. You sound batshit.

Is that you Donald?

feellikeanalien · 12/06/2024 21:03

If you're so worried OP why don't you just go and vote in person.

FOHM · 12/06/2024 21:05

Is the OP trying to put people off voting by post which is the main way people without 'approved' photo id will cast their vote? 🤔

No because I have a postal vote purely because I don't have approved ID to hand! I'm that person!
