I’ve been a teacher for 30 years and I’ve never carried a laptop to and from work. Why do you need a special bag?

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 09/06/2024 16:38

I tend to use a canvas tote with long handles. I used to have a long checklist for the perfect work bag - it never turned up 😔

Serious q. Why are you taking laptops home?

Probably because they need to? What a strange question.

Good for you. My guess is that 30 years ago you didn't have a laptop, let alone a computer. I certainly didn’t.
I do, however, like to bring my laptop home as I use it for other things not just school.

The laptop leather bag on asos is a winner. The leather wears well, looks smart and has a padded pouch for the laptop.

Really? That'll be because I need to work all day Sunday to get my work done

Hopeandmoss · 09/06/2024 16:50

Mia tui have a nice work bag which fits my lap top and all my bits and bobs in.

WonderingWanda · 09/06/2024 16:51

Wondering what planet @Johnhasalongmoustache is teaching on? I've been teaching for 23 years and I've been bringing a laptop home (to plan lessons, write SoW write reports ect) for about 20 of those years.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/06/2024 16:54

A few of us at work, including yours truly, have the Lekesky laptop backpack. Highly recommended, as there is plenty of room for other things too

HelloCiao · 09/06/2024 16:55

Lol at all the 'Why are you taking your laptop home?' questions.

My guess is you are stealing a laptop each day and want to look stylish whilst doing so. It couldn't possibly be because you need to work at home because you are a lazy teacher.

I don't have any suggestions OP but following as one of my Year 2 children made a comment about my laptop bag (Sainsburys carrier bag).

At least thirteen years ago I worked for a school federation that replaced all school PCs with laptops. All work was done on the laptop and then plugged into the IWB to teach. No USBs. Laptop came home every night.

I've been teaching over 30 years too. Haven't times changed?

PS: OP - I've got one of those Nordace backpacks too

DelphiniumBlue · 09/06/2024 17:03

You guys are hilarious, firstly querying why a teacher might to bring a laptop home, and secondly suggesting bags for several pounds!
OP I'd get yourself over to TK Maxx to view a selection of decent bags at a good price. I got my very attractive Day Birger& Mikkelson backpack from there a few years ago for about £50, (with a laptop compartment) and the one I bought DS from there for his first year at uni is still going strong 10 years later.

Johnhasalongmoustache · 09/06/2024 17:03

Do you not have your own laptop at home and then school provide you with one?

deedeemegadoodoo · 09/06/2024 17:11

Stackers have nice laptop bags.

SensualDecay · 09/06/2024 17:17

You just need a backpack. Get a cool -ish one like north face or Adidas originals so the children don't judge you.

Sherrystrull · 09/06/2024 17:25

Amazon have canvas tote bags with side pockets for flasks. Thats what I have. I wish I didn't have to take my laptop home.

I'm seriously looking at all of the suggestions, never knew I needed them but when I saw the title of your post this was what I thought about... Filled to the brim with sketchbooks for me, laptop precariously balanced on the top.
And yes I take my laptop home every night in case I need to do cover work. I'm also able to leave ASAP at my school which frees me up to pick the kids up and then I do my PPA time once they are in bed occasionally. So I find it strange people asking why you take your laptop home.

I have a smaller neat leather hand bag for my purse, keys etc and then I carry my (very large) school laptop in a big canvas tote (kind of like the Daunt books bag) and shove all my marking in there too. The IT department probably wouldn’t be too happy about it but that’s tough.
