Kipling super worker.

ThinWomansBrain · 09/06/2024 21:25

not a teacher, but regularly lug a laptop about
I bought one of these recently - from TK Maxx, about £25 rather than £75

fully waterproof, and very slim, so if I'm on a short bus or tube ride I can sit with it still on my back. Mine is Navy, grey and a very pale pink.

Even if they still don't have stocks of these, TK Maxx is good for discounted laptop bags.

This is absolutely usual as a teacher.

This comes with an extra strap to wear over your shoulder/across your body.

I like the olive colour

That’s gorgeous! Adding to Christmas list!

ThinWomansBrain · 09/06/2024 21:34

these are good if you have a lot to fit in in addition to the laptop
the top opening has a frame, so easier than most backpacks to open and see what's inside. there are several sellers with the same style on amazon

I bought a gorgeous vintage Mulberry briefcase when I was promoted… then quickly went back to a backpack with proper padded shoulders after using it for a few weeks. I look like a Year 7 student, carrying an overstuffed bag on both shoulders but it works much better for work than the beautiful mulberry.

I tend to use a canvas tote with long handles. I used to have a long checklist for the perfect work bag - it never turned up 😔

Me too! I have a nice stripy one from Typo.

Most teachers have remote access to school network from home so no need to lug laptops in and out.

Johnhasalongmoustache · 09/06/2024 21:37

It does not have to be.

That depends on when you leave though. We have a good head who treats us like professionals. Some people will stay at school after the children and arrive before they do. Others arrive ten minutes before the children and leave when they so so they will need to do work at home.

Most teachers I know work long hours in school and bring work home. I think we need to be real about the hours we work. I realise not all teachers work such long hours but the ones I know (and that is many) do.

Serious q. Why are you taking laptops home?

Well in my case, to do my planning, my data, subject leadership paperwork etc.
I don’t bring books home to mark but if I do all my marking after school everything else needs to be done at home.

Not in our authority, it costs for every remote access account so only SLT have it. Another thing there isn’t the money for.

I can’t afford my own laptop so I have to take my school one home.

StripyHorse · 09/06/2024 22:23

I have a black trespass backpack which has a laptop section. It is not the most stylish but it is sturdy, it doesn't look like a child's backpack (unlike the bag I use for school trips), it is water proof and has useful pockets - including net pockets on the side for my water bottle & coffee, and a clip inside so I never loose my keys.

I would rather spend a bit less on school and have a nice bag for weekends.

Ohh I want one of these now too! 😂

@coodawoodashooda - thanks for the excellent thread.

Can't decide if I'm brave enough to do pink every day or just go for the black.

I have a small handbag rucksack for daily everything bag. Do you all just rely on yourself to move it between bags?

I’ve got that bag. I just transfer my phone and keys in the middle zippy bit. I keep stuff like paracetamol and lip balm in there all the time (also in other bags)!
it stays upright when you put it down too, which I like.
i went black but I actually love colour!

Yeah. I like this idea. Just don't know if I trust myself to remember

I think you could still have your little rucksack and the big bag if that’s what you’d prefer.

OP I got this bag and I really rate it. I carry my laptop and lunch and various other bits in it and it's holding up brilliantly. Still looks new.

There are some lovely holdalls on this site :

Not sure what your budget is but I know one of the holdalls that has been reduced to £60-something has a pocket for a laptop.

Zatchel? I have two, one secondhand baby pink, one brand new red. Both have a handle so I can carry it like a briefcase and a cross body long strap. Fits my laptop in its protective sleeve and exercise books if needed, not that I take books home to mark these days. Also fits a lunchbox, pencil case, I got the biggest size. I’m selling the pink one because I prefer my red one.

I use the Mia Tui Jennie but as I'm starting a new job, have treated my self to this

I bought a bag organiser for it from Amazon and I absolutely love it! Fits my MacBook Air and my lunch box easily

notbelieved · 10/06/2024 19:55

I teach - I use a Mia Tui work bag. I thought it was expensive for non-leather but it's like new as we come to the end of the year. I will get at least another couple of years out of it.
