9 stone female?

OP posts:
zendeveloper · 30/05/2024 19:43

Able - yes, most should be able to lift off the ground. Easily or safely, or being able to carry for long time - no.

MaidenheadRevisited · 30/05/2024 19:45

Definitely, if otherwise fit and well. I'm an average sized woman, and I can easily lift a 9 stone female. Would struggle to carry them any distance if they weren't conscious though.

KrisAkabusi · 30/05/2024 19:46

Lift off the ground, yes. Do a Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing? Probably not.

EveryKneeShallBow · 30/05/2024 19:48

Definitely if no underlying health conditions

LondonFox · 30/05/2024 19:56

Of course.
A bag of cement in most European countries is 50kg or 8 stones.
And cement bag is hard to grip and not cooperating.
So unless you are thinking about manhandling unconacious women all day long in a blazing sun, it should not be a chore..

mightydolphin · 30/05/2024 19:59

Yes. I'm 10 stone and my sister can easily lift me. She's slightly shorter than me and about a stone heavier. A man should have no problem.

PurpleBugz · 30/05/2024 20:05

I'm a short woman with back and nerve problems and I could lift 9 stone if I wanted to. Could waddle a few steps and then suffer pain for days because of it but I could do it. Average man definitely could

Busybusybusy73 · 30/05/2024 20:07

Why do most of the responses here make it sound like 9 stone is heavy for a female?
That's less than the mean mass of a female adult in the UK.
Yes, an average man could lift a 9 stone female, though probably depends on other factors, such as how physically fit they are.

Hankunamatata · 30/05/2024 20:08

Why would he even want to try

BranchGold · 30/05/2024 20:10

I’m desperate to have some context for this op!

Has a man been rude about your size to conceal his physical weakness?

Hont1986 · 30/05/2024 20:13

I think the average man would certainly be able to get her feet off the floor and move her a short distance. As for doing it easily, or carrying her for an extended period, maybe not. It is almost 60kg.

Mylobsterteapot · 30/05/2024 20:15

I weigh just under 9 stone. An average man could probably carry me if I was awake and cooperative, but might find it harder if I was unconscious and a deadweight.

Refusing to carry her across the threshold after their honeymoon?

Refusing to put her on his shoulders for a gig?

Not picking her up off the floor when she was pissed, chucking a blanket over her and saying when she woke up on the floor and complained 'I couldn't pick you up'?

Saying no when she suggested a quickie up against the bathroom wall?

DoublePeonies · 30/05/2024 20:46

I can carry a (cooperating) 55kg - so 8 and a half stone - 15 year old across a room.
I'm female, and don't particularly do excerise. So, yes, I'd think so if it was something both wanted needed to happen.
Not a chance I could do it if he wasn't cooperating tho. Not sure about a bloke. Probably could a sleeping 9 stone person. Possibly not one that was resisting.

BashfulClam · 30/05/2024 20:49

My eight stone 5’ mother fell. My 6’4’ 15 stone brother hurt himself trying to lift her. He hurt his chest.

Almostwelsh · 30/05/2024 20:50

Even a small man could do it. The only type of man who couldn't would be one who was injured or disabled.

CJ0374 · 30/05/2024 20:52

Can we have more context OP? Like why?

According to legal manual handling guidelines, the maximum safe lifting weight for a woman is 16kg.
And for men, the maximum safe lifting weight is 25kg.

9 stone is 57kg, so more than double what OH&S would allow-IF its a work setting.

RagzRebooted · 30/05/2024 20:53

My sons age 16 and 17 could both lift me at 17 stone (not particularly easily, mind), so yes I'd say so. They can also lift eachother (a lot more easily) and I can pick the 16 year old up and carry him around (he's about 10 stone).
But that's all from standing and co-operating. Lifting them from the floor would be very different, or someone unconscious.

I think that’s entirely in your head.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/05/2024 20:56

I can lift DH on my back and he's <ahem> significantly more than 9 stone.

Not Dirty Dancing as above but with his arms over my shoulders and off the ground. I think DD can as well and she's a tween!

elliejjtiny · 30/05/2024 20:57

I am female and I can just about pick up my 11 stone 16 year old son if he co operates.

Livelaughlurgy · 30/05/2024 21:00

What's lift easily? I think 9 stone is heavy- not for a female. But it's a decent weight. I've seen tons of women struggle with suitcases at the airport. They're 20kg. I can deadlift 55. Could I sling a 9 stone person over my shoulder - no. Could I do a piggy back? Yes. Over the threshold, no. So it's a very vague question

SomeoneelsessFault · 30/05/2024 21:03

I'm the height and weight of the average UK man (well, tiny bit taller and heavier) and, while fairly strong for a woman, I imagine probably weaker than men of a comparative build. I can carry someone that weight who is cooperating a good way and uncooperative a couple of hundred metres. Picking them up would be easy, I imagine the same true for a man too.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 30/05/2024 21:03

Yes, 9 stone is hardly big, the average man should be able to lift a 9 stone person.

topcat2014 · 30/05/2024 21:05

I'm a bit clumsy and don't really know what bits to hold on to, plus our doorway is narrow and at the top of since steps.

I didn't even try the wedding thing.

Are we talking lift from the floor or get feet off the ground?
