In the same vain as my last post about what jobs would put you off..

Which careers would you imagine would make you more likely to date someone?
Light-hearted of course.

Mine would be-

Musician
Artist
Academic
Engineer
Plumber
Joiner
Cannabis farmer

What would yours be?

OP posts:

Cannabis farmer Grin

Scientist (to talk shop)
Vet (so I could trust him to take care of my No. 1)
Engineer
Optometrist, as long as he didn't insist on displaying photos or diagrams of eyeballs in the house
Dentist
Anthropologist

labracadabras · 22/05/2024 17:14

I don’t mind what they do - as long as they aren’t a porn actor, cameraman etc or work for the porn or illegal drug industries.

i only don’t mind if they own their own home or not or have a large or small income or pension.

i do care if they are kind or not

Dentist?! 🤣🤣🤣

I don't think that I've ever seen a sexy dentist

@MidnightMeltdown One of my friends is a dentist and she’s very attractive- I don’t think her DH was attracted to her due to her profession. 🤣

I’ll be boring and say that I’d go for someone who works in finance but wants to become a sustainable farmer. That’s my DH!

OhHelloMiss · 22/05/2024 17:24

Police!

groyard · 22/05/2024 17:25

Carpenter. I don’t know if it’s a case of being attracted to something outside my norm. My entire social circle has followed a very similar path uni -> corporate job/doctor etc. My neighbour recently built a treehouse for his daughter and it was possibly the most attractive thing I have ever witnessed. Almost broke up with my boyfriend (lawyer) when I saw him decorate it with bunting.

groyard · 22/05/2024 17:27

Brother is a pilot for BA. Possibly would have said pilot prior to realising they are all very boring and borderline tedious.

In the same vein

My husband has a masters and a well-paid desk job.

He doesn't do any DIY or gardening.

He has many qualities but emotional intelligence is not a strong point.

So if I found myself single again I would be attracted to men who are emotionally intelligent and do practical jobs, I think.

I've dated a couple of academics (science) in my time and found them same thing.

Very intelligent men, but something lacking that I couldn't quite put my finger on, but it relates to emotional intelligence and empathy. Academics tend to be a touch on the narcissistic side too.

Based on your sample size of two scientists?

Butchyrestingface · 22/05/2024 17:31

Independently wealthy and nearly dead. âš°

Alltheunreadbooks · 22/05/2024 17:31

This doesn't work the other way, strangely.

Men don't care what job a woman does unless it embarrasses them by earning loads more than them or is ' mans work'.

AnotherEmma · 22/05/2024 16:29

Not true of my DH, data analyst and loves to laugh.

Definitely not true, although I'm sure there is a correlation between data people and having a dry sense of humour.

I would not say no to a skilled carpenter who makes furniture with dovetail joints, especially if he wears a shirt with rolled up sleeves while he does it. Or a landscape gardener because my garden is shit and I would like it to not be.

MidnightMeltdown · 22/05/2024 17:33

@BruFord I'm just imagining the conversations about how horrendous peoples teeth are, and getting lectured on how to use my toothbrush properly 😂

MidnightMeltdown · 22/05/2024 17:34

@UntiltheGirl No, I used to work in academia. Believe me, I've known many.

YouJustDoYou · 22/05/2024 17:36

My dh's original job when we met 20+ years ago was waaaaay different that his current career (no uniform - normal clothes, still found him hot), but now he's going silver fox and he's in his current uniform, I must admit he is rather hot wearing it. But then, I think he's pretty hot in a white t-shirt and his workman's trousers too, so...

Yes, dental work isn't cheap!

Stibble · 22/05/2024 17:38

Public or charity sector ‘people’ type jobs (except doctor)
Academic or researcher in an interesting field
Anything book related - publishing, libraries, writing (but not journalism)
Union man in a flatcap

wickerpram · 22/05/2024 17:38

Architect
Writer (if successful)
Curator
Vet
Diplomat
Peacekeeper
Political journalist or commentator (so long as they align with my values)
...in fact what I find is a mega turn on when a man is high up anywhere, super bright, articulate, GSoH and isn't a Tory.

A very good looking dentist pulled out my wisdom teeth and I briefly thought I was in love with him, but in retrospect I think it was trauma bonding.

Lovemusic82 · 22/05/2024 17:40

I’m not that fussy but I guess I would be more drawn to someone who works outdoors or in a caring role, a tree surgeon, gardener, nurse, doctor, vet or maybe a farmer because I love baby cows and would love a horse 🤔.
