To ask why men have to wee standing up?

Why? Just why?

Fair enough if all they have is a urinal or a tree at their disposal, but if they’re in a bathroom with a toilet, why do they have to stand up?

My DS1 was doing absolutely fine sitting on his little clip in loo seat thing and just pointing his willy down, until my FIL in all his wisdom decided to teach him the joys of a stand up wee, and now I am constantly having to clean up puddles of piss on the floor from when he misses.

Why????????

Usually given reason when I've questioned it previously is the grossness and cold of the willy touching porcelain... not a problem for young children, more issue as he grown up!

You don't need to wipe your dick on a toilet when you sit on it

Yellowhammer09 · 13/05/2024 12:55

YANBU! I've noticed that most men never clean up their spills, either 🤢 I'm thankful my DH is a sit-down wee-er. It's so much nicer to live with.

Macbeff · 13/05/2024 12:55

Presumably it’s the convenience of not having to pull down trousers in full - just slip it out and back in.

Bitteralmond · 13/05/2024 12:55

They don't have to. Men the middle-eastern cultures don't always stand up (my DH sits down apparently). It is supposed to be healthier to sit down anyway.

choixduroi · 13/05/2024 12:55

here in Germany it's normal for men to sit down and a lot of people have little passive aggressive signs in their homes in the loo asking for men to wee sitting down. I am personally all for it, our DS wees sitting down and it is frankly gross and unnecessary to stand around peeing onto the surround of the loo. I see it as a part of the patriarchy that needs to go!

They don’t have to but it’s ’the way they’ve been taught to do it’ it annoys me as my sons (18 and 13) don’t even lift the toilet seat so I end up wiping the toilet seat and stray pubes every time I have to go! I taught both to sit and pee but they started standing at about 8 and won’t change!

My DS is only 4 and he’s the eldest of three…

Thanks Captain Obvious!
It's probably best you don't try and explain things you've clearly never had to deal with 😅

SeulementUneFois · 13/05/2024 13:01

Make him (your DS) clean the wee himself.
Or at least help you (really help) with it.

Halfemptyhalfling · 13/05/2024 13:01

In a bible story the men who sat down were dismissed from the army.

midgetastic · 13/05/2024 13:02

See no reason for them not to wee standing up

But it should be a privilege that they only get once they show how they leave the room cleaner than when they went in

Give your child a cloth and get them cleaning up

Dude, being able to use a toilet without touching your dick on it isn't a great skill.

Faduckssake · 13/05/2024 13:10

They don't have to, they just can. Useful skill sometimes! My DH sits down, always has. Maybe he's just lazy. 😆

TipsyKoala · 13/05/2024 13:10

I encouraged my son to wee standing up when he was little as he would sit on the toilet and send a jet of wee forwards straight onto the floor. His little willy was too small to point it down into the bowl. I'm starting to regret this as he's now a lazy 8 year old and can't be bothered to lift the toilet seat so wees all over it 😠

Really? Where in the bible?

weareallcats · 13/05/2024 13:14

I don't get it either. It's the mess, yes, but also the sound - my dh and eldest ds make such a racket (ds2 not so noisy yet, but I'm sure he will get there). I make them clean up after themselves, but they don't go a very good job.

Springchickenonion · 13/05/2024 13:15

2 boys and a husband in this house. They all wee sitting down.

Never taught the boys to stand and wee unless it was a Bush wee when they where small. They use a urinal when out though.

Same for DH! Much cleaner

AngeloMysterioso · 13/05/2024 13:17

I wasn’t planning on teaching him to do it for a long time either, but he and DS2 stay with my PILs one night a week and FIL taught him to do it. It hadn’t occurred to me I’d need to ask him not to and now it’s too late.

My DH read an article about German Sitzpinklers (sit pissers) and switched to sitting. Downside is he now spends longer in there on his phone!

TheCadoganArms · 13/05/2024 13:18

In public toilets why would you want to sit down as they are filthy in most instances. Most women 'hover' rather then sit, if your anatomy allows you to stand while peeing why not take advantage?

hookiewookie29 · 13/05/2024 13:18

My 26 year old son wees sitting down.....only because he has a piercing down there and gets double streams!!🤣😜😜

My bathroom is not a public toilet.

Best they can do both I guess. DS usually sits down incase of No 3s 😂 (pee and poo together) 🥴
