To ask why men have to wee standing up?

Why? Just why?

Fair enough if all they have is a urinal or a tree at their disposal, but if they’re in a bathroom with a toilet, why do they have to stand up?

My DS1 was doing absolutely fine sitting on his little clip in loo seat thing and just pointing his willy down, until my FIL in all his wisdom decided to teach him the joys of a stand up wee, and now I am constantly having to clean up puddles of piss on the floor from when he misses.

Why????????

In public toilets why would you want to sit down as they are filthy in most instances. Most women 'hover' rather then sit, if your anatomy allows you to stand while peeing why not take advantage?

It's the hoverers who cause the "filth". If everyone just sat on the seat there wouldn't any issues.

Riapia · 13/05/2024 13:25

Because they can.

Dude, being able to use a toilet without touching your dick on it isn't a great skill.

Edited

Does anyone else remember the thread about the DH that "caught an STD from his willy touching semen in the underside of Toilet seat" - the questions of how this happened were never-ending 😆
I can't remember the outcome, but the DH in question was going for an STD check the last I heard.

Dbank · 13/05/2024 13:36

It's quicker to pee standing up.
I once saw a urinal in someone's toilet in a house, seemed really weird but maybe practical.

My DH is a sitzpinkler

peakygold · 13/05/2024 13:41

My DH always sits down to wee, unless using public loos. You know, when men have a poo, they don't then stand to have a wee after, don't you?

I think you are being somewhat optimistic. I strongly suspect that there is a minority of people, men and women, who get a thrill out of just making a toilet unusable by pissing or shitting all over the place.

Absolutely

Any adult that makes a mess in a toilet has got some kind of weird fetish

Cazzovuoi · 13/05/2024 13:47

My DH sits to pee, uses toilet paper to clean and dry himself after.

Ive never once had a dirty toilet in 17 years.

RecoveringChocaholic · 13/05/2024 13:51

My exH insisted on DS standing up to pee. Of course he never cleaned up the mess afterwards. In fact his own aim wasn't exactly great.
As soon as he moved out I told my then 6 year old that he needs to sit down to wee. It took a couple of months and a few reminders but he got there eventually. I haven't had wee puddles in 3 years and the seat is always down.
My current DP also sits down to wee. It really isn't that hard.
Maybe tell your DS that in your house you wee sitting down and at FIL house he can wee standing up. Not your problem then.

KreedKafer · 13/05/2024 13:57

They don't have to wee standing up but I think it's something you should at least show a little boy how to do (certainly in this country, anyway) because as they get a bit older they're going to need to be confident using a urinal.

I think a lot of older men also think it's a bit effeminate and cringy to have a wee sitting down. I guess it's just cultural norms and what people are used to. As others have said, in some countries it's standard for men to wee sitting down.

I have to say, though, that I've genuinely never really experienced the whole thing of men getting their piss everywhere when they use the loo. Clearly it's a common problem because I'm always hearing other women complain about it, but I can only assume that DP has either perfected his aim or is unusually diligent about wiping up any splashes! I don't really remember noticing it when I lived with my dad and brother either.

MathiasBroucek · 13/05/2024 13:57

Man here. Subjectively, I find it easier to "get rid of it all" when standing. And, yes, it's less pallaver...

That said, I tend to sit if peeing in the middle of the night for reasons of, er, accuracy when half asleep/no glasses

On the whole, leaving a mess isn't to do with standing, it's to do with idiocy. Any bloke who does that persistently will always find a way to create a mess regardless of how they pee!

MrsElsa · 13/05/2024 13:59

In Germany they sit down

Make him clean his own wee end of story

shellyleppard · 13/05/2024 14:00

Op if he insists on standing to pee....can you put a small ball or a dot on the back of the toilet bowl so he can practice his aim?? I live with two sons (teenagers) and I'm always mopping up spills 🫣🫣

WorriedRelative · 13/05/2024 14:00

Men should sit if they go at night as there is a risk of fainting

OldTinHat · 13/05/2024 14:01

My eldest DS was born with valves pointing the wrong way. We didn't know until he was being potty trained. He used to sit.

After his surgery, the hospital said he must stand to urinate so his bladder is properly drained. Sitting isn't effective for males.

Who on earth told you that?

YourWinter · 13/05/2024 14:03

I couldn’t agree more. If there’s a seat, sit on it. Peeing standing up is incredibly useful outdoors, and necessary at a urinal, but completely inappropriate at a conventional loo unless the splasher immediately and properly cleans the loo, floor, and any adjacent wall and bin.

KreedKafer · 13/05/2024 14:04

That's an interesting point, as I've just remembered my dad complaining about this. He became disabled later in life and had to switch to peeing sitting down due to balance problems when standing up, and he said he didn't feel like his bladder was properly empty afterwards, something he'd never had an issue with when peeing standing up. Clearly this isn't a thing for all men, but maybe it is for some!

Deadringer · 13/05/2024 14:05

Just teach him to clean up. Dh and ds both stand up and neither of them leave piss on the seat or puddles on the floor.

Kedece · 13/05/2024 14:06

Why aren't all these disgusting men being told to clear up the mess they're making.

Despite having a stand up pee-er in the house I've never had to clean up a toilet seat or floor. Either his aim is good or he's respectful enough to clean up after himself.

There's no way I'd be cleaning up his mess

fungipie · 13/05/2024 14:08

the issue is not about standing up or sitting down, but aiming properly and clean up any spills if and when.

Simonjt · 13/05/2024 14:09

Its quicker standing up, it also means if the person before you made a mess on the seat you don’t have to sit on someones wee, its very hard to hover and not wee everywhere. It isn’t hard to have a wee and not make a mess, our sons been managing it since he was four.

Do they? I've lived in Germany and this was never the case. Unless from Muslim background.

Chypre · 13/05/2024 14:10

I have no idea how my DH/father/cousins/friends pee, but never in my life I had to clean up after a male using my toilet. But then, obviously all of them are adults. Your DS is just 4 years old, that is tiny! Maybe the toilet is too high for him or something.
