DIL birthday prezzy

If your MIL was buying you a prezzy for your birthday on a limited budget (£30) what would you like? I’m totally lost as to what to buy her and it’s imminent. 😱. AIBU just to put cash in her card?

wrong time of year possibly, but some cashmere socks? Or some This Works products - the hand cream is nice and I like the in-transit camera close up. Shop around for prices.
A voucher for her favourite nail place- if that’s within your budget?
Or, if she likes them, some flowers, or a pretty plant for her garden.

mindutopia · 24/04/2024 13:32

I'd personally love cash or a gift voucher somewhere I'd actually shop. The best person to ask is your son (her partner). Dh always asks me for advice when MIL asks him what to get me. Or she contributes to a joint gift, like a spa day or gift voucher for a massage.

Peclet · 24/04/2024 13:35

A really nice version of something she users.

so a spendy shower gel or candle for me. or bamboo socks or a lightweight cotton dressing gown.

PurpleLamb · 24/04/2024 13:35

What are her interests and hobbies? Could her DH/your DS offer any help?

beetr00 · 24/04/2024 13:37

is she a traveller?

A bottle of my favourite wine and come and babysit for me so I can go out with DP without the kids.

Anneta · 24/04/2024 13:59

A few suggestions depending on her preferences:

  • a Piglet Pantry afternoon tea
  • Lily O'Brien Chocolates
  • a bottle of perfume
  • Local Theatre tickets
  • Amazon / M&S / Boots / White Stuff gift voucher
  • Cash

My MIL always gets me a voucher for my hairdressers for my birthday - it's very much appreciated!

Cas112 · 24/04/2024 14:26

gift voucher for selfridges

gift voucher for selfridges

Why Selfridges?

MIL gets me an All 4 One gift which i have repeatedly (and nicely!) told her not to as it is a PITA.

Cash.

This is the best advice

My inlaws always give me cash or a voucher for a shopping centre. I'm thrilled with either.

The question states what would 'I' want MIL to get me

That's what I would want, me specifically not you 😂

Every one knows all in one gift cards are a pain in the arse so maybe she's trying to annoy you on purpose

Mumoftwo1312 · 24/04/2024 14:33

Cinema vouchers and the offer of babysitting for the cinema trip.

[I really, really want this myself! But my two are both a bit too needy atm for evening babysitting aaargh]

Curlyblondefemale · 24/04/2024 14:35

I personally love getting a voucher.

Crumpleton · 24/04/2024 14:40

Its really depends on what your DIL likes.

A voucher from the local garden centre, as much as I love all things plants our local one sells an array of products, clothes, beautiful bags, jewellery, candles, and much much more so I certainly wouldn't have a problem spending it in there.

BlueMum16 · 24/04/2024 14:43

I personally prefer cash to a voucher as a voucher ties me to that place, although maybe my hair dresser/nail place I already go would work.

I did get some lovely Molton Brown stuff last year. It's more expensive than I'd buy for myself but it was lovely and felt thoughtful.

Shufflebumnessie · 24/04/2024 16:52

Personally, I'd be delighted with cash in a card. Or voucher for our local shopping mall (they do a generic one that can be redeemed in most of the shops - both chain & independent).

Yellowhammer09 · 24/04/2024 16:57

I'd rather have a voucher over cash. Somewhere like M&S or John Lewis, as then you have a large array of items to choose from: clothes, beauty, homeware etc.

CuteCillian · 24/04/2024 16:58

Cinema membership - £30 at our local chain gets you two free tickets, 20% of all food and drink purchased for a year and two for one tickets on certain screenings.

Needmorelego · 24/04/2024 17:11

Depends what she likes and is interested in.
My birthday is coming up soon and I would like some Lego and books. Specific ones that I have done an Amazon wish list for.
Just ask her if there's anything particular she would like.

@Yellowhammer09 i know it's old skool but they do take cash 🤣🤣

YeahComeOnThen · 24/04/2024 17:24

@Paperdolly

there's not much point in us saying what we'd like as it's your DIL's birthday not ours!
(though mine was recently and I'll happily send you a list 🤣🤣)

money in a card doesn't feel nice, but it's really appreciated, much more than a voucher (where you can see the value anyway). You can spend cash anywhere and you can put it towards something more expensive if you want.

gifts are really nice though. I love the surprise & unwrapping, but I find it hard to buy for me as I'm ultra fussy, so I'd give me cash.

Actually I'm ultra crap at gift buying. Ultra crap. I also hate the waste of money if something isn't 'right'.

I could bang on about gift buying...it's an issue for me for many reasons.

But she already has the greatest gift, a lovely MIL 💕

YeahComeOnThen · 24/04/2024 17:28

@Needmorelego

im trying to justify buying the telephone box.

id love the gringots one! My Mum is the only one who would spend that much on me but I can imagine her face if I asked for Lego 💕🤣She gave me money for my birthday and said 'thought you might like to treat yourself to some clothes'🤣🤣🤣
