DIL birthday prezzy

Paperdolly · 24/04/2024 13:26

If your MIL was buying you a prezzy for your birthday on a limited budget (£30) what would you like? I’m totally lost as to what to buy her and it’s imminent. 😱. AIBU just to put cash in her card?

To the people who call an all in one voucher a pain, I love them! (Sorry!!) I’d agree with something like an m and s voucher or a bottle of Prosecco and some chocolates or a candle and a book you know she might like

80skid · 24/04/2024 19:34

À voucher for a manicure or pedicure? Maybe supply the childcare and have a cuppa together afterwards?

pizzaHeart · 24/04/2024 19:35

It depends on DIL. My sister buys hers clothes, household items, nice food/drinks. And her DIL is very happy.
I can’t imagine my MIL or even my Mum buying me clothes or things for the house.
Cash or voucher for me every time. I would also appreciate flowers and a nice card.

Maraa · 24/04/2024 19:52

If I had £30 someone was going to spend on me I’d either stock up on my favourite foundation, the all de janeiro bum bum cream or Elemis cleansing balm. I love them all and although they seem small gifts they are always appreciated

LadyLapsang · 24/04/2024 19:57

If she has a garden, a potted rose from David Austin Roses, then every time it flowers she will think of you.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/04/2024 19:58

If you know the person has an M&S near, IMO their vouchers are a good bet - you can spend them on anything from food and wine to knickers and flowers.
At any rate, that’s what I gave to a niece I rarely see for her 50th.

JustAboutHangingInThere · 24/04/2024 19:59

Neom bath foam, luxurious and lovely! (£26)

‘Nursem’ hand cream, they do lovely sets, it’s brilliant.

Moveoverdarlin · 24/04/2024 20:00

I would much prefer the cash. But if you do a voucher I’d say John Lewis or M&S.

@Yellowhammer09 i know it's old skool but they do take cash 🤣🤣

They do?? 🤣🤣 When I get given cash I just spend it on bits and bobs here and there, so it has less of a 'gift' feel. I like vouchers because then it feels like a treat 😌

ajandjjmum · 24/04/2024 20:33

Cyberjammies gown - they often have discounts, and I have bought quite a few which seemed to be well received gifts.

aridiculousargument · 24/04/2024 20:36

the bottle of wine and babysitting voucher are perfect!!!

herbygarden · 24/04/2024 20:54

As a DIL I would be delighted with a White Company Candle with maybe a little box of chocolates! I would never get this from ILs though 😂

Eskimalita · 24/04/2024 22:10

Something from M&S or John Lewis like a scarf with a gift receipt

Youdontevengohere · 24/04/2024 22:18

I’d be gutted to get a scarf 😂, even with a gift receipt as I’d have to find the time to take it back.

WingsofRain · 24/04/2024 22:28

A garden centre voucher or a book token.

Noseybookworm · 24/04/2024 22:42

What are your DILs interests? Does she like books, gardening, fashion, theatre/cinema/music, pampering, meals out, candles/luxury bath stuff? Surely you know her well enough to choose something she'd like or an appropriate voucher?

@Yellowhammer09

i just find vouchers restrictive & a PITA

BUT I can mentally keep the gift money in mind & just buy something when I see it.

BorisIsACuntWaffle · 25/04/2024 06:33

Massage voucher.

AndyPandyismyhero · 25/04/2024 08:25

I try to give my DILs things I know she wouldn't buy for herself. Neither are drinkers but love hot chocolate, so I have bought things like Charbonnel et Walker chocolate flakes. One doesn't eat chocolate, but there is a particular savoury snack she loves, so I have made her a hamper with a huge supply of those for her. I have made up a birthday advent calendar containing small sizes of nice body products for her to try or use when she goes on holiday. I have also bought full size packs of skin care products I know she likes but doesn't buy for herself because of the cost. One year she needed a new coat but the one she really liked was out of her budget so I gave her the difference. My other DIL has a particular hobby so I often buy her things for that.
I try to buy things I know they will love, rather than generic things. Both my DILs are lovely and we get on really well. I try to treat them as I would a daughter, definitely I treat them as equals to my sons when it comes to buying gifts.

Paperdolly · 25/04/2024 14:59

Thank you great people 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻. I have contacted her favourite beauty therapist where she has facials every month and asked for a voucher to go towards her next one. 😁

Sounds perfect!

Haydenn · 25/04/2024 15:02

”only £30”. That’s 15 times more than my MIL spent on me 🤣🤣🤣

You care OP, that’s enough. I’m sure she’ll be very happy with what you come up with

ploooto · 25/04/2024 15:07

Youdontevengohere · 24/04/2024 17:38

It’s irreverent what we’d like, we aren’t your DIL! What sort of things does she like?

Best typo I've seen all week 😂
