My son is currently on a school trip to Disneyland. He started to feel unwell with stomach pains and vomiting. He got split up from he’s group and was left alone in Disney village. I managed to get hold of the teacher to let her know and she said she would go to him. My son then text me and said she said she Can’t go to him because she is queuing for a ride. Nobody bothered to go look for my son for two hours. Aibu to make a complaint about this and take it further?

A school trip to Disneyland? In the Easter holidays?

notnowmarmaduke · 03/04/2024 19:45

why did he split up from his group? Why is he contacting you?

CommentNow · 03/04/2024 19:46

What do you mean by he got split up from his group? His mates left him? How old is he?

TheSnowyOwl · 03/04/2024 19:46

Depending upon his age, I doubt very much he needs to be mollycoddled on a school trip and will probably be mortified if his friends see it happening.

I’m surprised that they don’t have something in place for pupils to know a set point to go to with issues so that they can speak to an adult though. Have you been sent the risk assessment for the trip?

crumblingschools · 03/04/2024 19:46

How ill?

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 03/04/2024 19:46

He needs to go back to the hotel and go to bed

TheSnowyOwl · 03/04/2024 19:46

At 16, he is old enough to be there alone surely?

MississippiAF · 03/04/2024 19:46

Was his group a formal thing they’ve been put into for the trip, or does he mean his friends left him?

Molonty · 03/04/2024 19:46

16? You must be joking.

Sirzy · 03/04/2024 19:47

At 16 surely he could have made his way to the point to meet the teacher?

Popchippps · 03/04/2024 19:47

He’s 16 not 6
if he’s ill he can find somewhere quiet to sit

what does he want the teacher to do?

notnowmarmaduke · 03/04/2024 19:47

He is not a child. I would expect him to be able to look after himself. He should probably find a quiet place to sit and rest, and make sure his friends and his teachers know where he is.

Why is he ill? Is alcohol involved?

edwinbear · 03/04/2024 19:47

He’s 16, he should be able to look after himself for a couple of hours surely? If he was queuing for a ride he can’t have been feeling too unwell - or have I missed something?

littleducks · 03/04/2024 19:47

My 16 year old son has extra GCSE revision sessions to go into school for these holidays.... Trip to Disney would be great!

Molonty · 03/04/2024 19:47

Ridiculous. If he could text her then he can surely navigate his way to the rest of the group?

MumMumMumMumMumMumMum · 03/04/2024 19:47

16 years old? FGS he's old enough to go find someone himself.

K0OLA1D · 03/04/2024 19:48

At 16, I think, unless it's an emergency he can find the group or let them know where he's going to be until he's feeling better.

Hellocatshome · 03/04/2024 19:48

At 16 unless needing to go to hospital ill he can sit on a bench near the toilets for a bit by himself. Unless their hotel is very near Disney or he is very ill they probably wouldn't take him back to the hotel straight away anyway he would have to wait for the coach.

G172125 · 03/04/2024 19:49

He went to the toilets to vomit and when he came out everyone was gone. Yes he’s 16 and not a baby but surely the teachers are there to look after the children and not on a free holiday. She was sent he’s location and he didn’t move from that spot because he was in agony and embarrassed

What country are you in? Presumably not the UK given upcoming exams.

If he is genuinely in agony he needs to go to hospital, not sit on a park bench.

How was he able to contact you and not his teacher or friends?
