Help me find wellies to wear everyday that aren't gaping!

I've searching for wellies for ages now. I'll be wearing them most days for muddy walks etc, nothing major but want them to be good quality as I'll be doing a lot of walking.

I have very slim calves and most wellies I've tried on are really gappy and loose on me which I hate as I want them to be stylish and a tighter fit.

I like the look of Le Chameau but too pricey, and Aigle but are these gappy?

Wellies are just like that aren’t they? Do you need a waterproof horse boot maybe?

Iwrotethelyricstoaxlf · 02/04/2024 19:56

Dublin or Airiat boots.

not wellies but yard boots and infinitely more comfortable and warm than wellies.

I was looking at riding boots but I didn't know whether they'd be suitable for everyday wear. Are they just as waterproof? Can I wear them as wellies?!😅

I wouldn't bother with Le Chameau. I had a pair and they split around the heel during their second winter. Massive waste of money.

Iggityziggety · 02/04/2024 19:57

I wear ankle wellies from seasalt, they aren't gapey and keep your feet dry and warm without the difficulty getting them on and off.

Flyonthewall01 · 02/04/2024 19:57

Ariat wellies are so good! They aren’t extortionate but have a real in sole in them so give you foot support too. I’ve had mine about 8years now

abracadabra1980 · 02/04/2024 19:57

I've tried them all and I can tell you two things:

None of them last if walking on a beach most days-salt water cracks them.

The best fit I found (skinny calfs, am shortish) were Hunter kids 😁

Ps: after walking in them for 15 years daily, I've developed pains in the balls of my feet, so am now wearing Morrell walking boots.

abracadabra1980 · 02/04/2024 19:59

PPS: I'm a bit of a welly addict! Love them 🤔

Thank you, I'll avoid beaches!

I actually liked the fit of a Hunter pair the most but after reading that the quality isn't good anymore I've been put off!

Would I BU to risk a Hunter pair and just return within the 2 year warranty if they break?🤣🤣

Good to know, thanks. Everyone has such differing opinions on brands! I assumed they were the go to as Kate Middleton wears them.

Muck boots - lightweight, comfy and do slim fit!

isthewashingdryyet · 02/04/2024 20:04

Walking boots are much better for long walks, and are much kinder on your joints. Welly boots have no cushioning and no arch support
Get gortex lined high ankle walking boots. And good walking socks

Thumberline · 02/04/2024 20:05

Another vote for hunter kids, I’ve had mine for four winters of dog walks now and still going strong!

Dartmoorcheffy · 02/04/2024 20:05

I got a pair in lidl last year and they have been fantastic. I've probably worn them everyday since November with this atrocious weather we have had.

mynewname25 · 02/04/2024 20:06

Could try muck boots

stayathomer · 02/04/2024 20:08

Only thing is some riding boots can be sore if you walk in them for too long? On the search for similar op, my favourite wellies are cheap ones but they’re nearly done now, water is getting on :(

CalamityA · 02/04/2024 20:08

Love my hunters. Had them more than a decade and they are still perfect after a LOT of use.

stayathomer · 02/04/2024 20:10

abracadabra1980
are your legs not getting soaked on walks though?

Lighteningstrikes · 02/04/2024 20:17

Hunter wellingtons.
Close fitting cut and very comfortable for walking.

The quality is no longer the same as they're now made in China. Shame as I love the look of them!

I love my Le Chameaus ("Giverny"). I've had the same pair for over 5 years and they are still in perfect condition. And I have walked all over in them, including daily beach walks.
They are fairly narrow of foot and leg which suits me, as I have size 8 feet but not wide, as most manufacturers assume. I would definitely buy another pair if these gave out, which they show no signs of doing!

Astrak · 02/04/2024 20:36

Pity about Hunters being made in China. I got mine thirty-plus years ago and they're still going strong.
I've also got muck boots, almost as old and they're also going strong.
Ditto Ariat long leather boots.
I think that manufacturing standards were much higher then.

DementedPanda · 02/04/2024 20:38

Muck boots definately. Mine are still going strong after 7 years

Bovrilla · 02/04/2024 20:40

Muck boots now also made in china and split, like Hunters do

I have Aigle and love them. Get the Parcours ISO2 with adjustable sides. They've got vibram soles and I walk miles in mine, as i work in them a lot, and this winter's dog walks have definitely required wellies!

PlaygroupWoe · 02/04/2024 20:40

I'm on 8 years with my La Chameaus. They've been through everything with me! I am also big footed with skinny calves, and chose them as they were least gapey. Best thing I ever did!
