To Love Beyoncé's New Album?

I've never been a Beyoncé fan before and have never understood the hype surrounding her but I absolutely love her new Cowboy Carter album! Her voice sounds amazing! I've seen quite a bit of negative stuff online about her covering Jolene but aibu to love the album and think it's her best yet by far? I've got friends who are big fans of hers but say they much preferred Lemonade so am wondering if it's because it's so different that it's appealing to people who weren't Beyoncé fans before

I haven't stopped listening to it! Love Jolene and 16 carriages

Lateliein · 02/04/2024 22:24

I'm cynical but to me she's just targeting a different market for sales...

Angelof29th · 03/04/2024 20:57

I despise the Texas song, it my ears lots like a modern day cotton eye Joe, dreadful.

nimski · 03/04/2024 20:58

I loved Jolene and Texas, thought the rest was disappointing and meh.

Lovetok · 03/04/2024 20:59

ye love it! Listened to it 3 times back to back last night. I’m an old school Bey fan but wasn’t caught up in the Lemonde/Renaissance hype. Love the covers, love Yaya and Bodyguard.

Hecate01 · 03/04/2024 21:07

I'm not a fan of the country genre and I don't think Beyonce has produced anything decent for a long time including this latest offering.

That said I was impressed with Miley Cyrus cover of Jolene (thanks TikTok) and it beats Beyonce hands down.

I think it's a cynical move because Taylor Swift has taken over the pop charts so Beyoncé is off to have a bash of something else. I've seen many Americans say it's not true country music but as I don't really know what the requirements are for it to fit the genre I can't really comment on that.

DojaPhat · 03/04/2024 21:14

The country music scene in the US is really quite bizarre. They appear to want to do anything to disown Beyonce's music.

ComtesseDeSpair · 03/04/2024 21:30

I think most of the tracks are among her weakest work, and I don’t think it’s particularly good country music. Country is traditionally a blue-collar storytelling genre. Texas particularly is just poorly written and says nothing.

ToxicChristmas · 03/04/2024 21:32

It's not for me, but of course YANBU to love it. You like what you like!

IncompleteSenten · 03/04/2024 21:33

Miley Cyrus singing with Metallica was great imo. She did it really well.

Beyonce's Texas song is fine I think. Country style pop. I imagine it's fun to dance to and it'll sell well.

boobot1 · 03/04/2024 21:42

I didnt like her past albums, dont like this one. I just dont get her.

Putthekettleon73 · 03/04/2024 21:44

I love it too! Also not previously a big Beyonce fan..I love country music and I love how clever she is at making it her own. Country music has its origins in slave songs as well white working roots so I love that that's being recognised here.
I love Dolly's Jolene but think this us a great take on it (clearly with Dolly's approval). I love the opening track and yaya and spaghetti. And the Texas one. And the purity of Blackbird. Just so clever. And catchy.

I agree with this post. Miley Cyrus is so underrated, I absolutely love her gravelly voice. She also seems like a fairly decent human and has done well considering how other child stars have gone.

I love country music but not impressed by Beyoncé’s and I’m utterly bemused as to why This Ain’t Texas is so popular. What a boring song. I also think that her and her husband come across like the biggest egotistical whingey entitled twats going.

Me neither. But be careful who you tell, you don’t want this lady’s fate

I think her lyrics to Jolene are hilarious. You can keep your man Beyoncé.

DojaPhat · 03/04/2024 22:32

@YaMuvva As odd as it may sound I do think you can tell a lot about a person by their opinion (or lack thereof) on Beyonce. Something about the shoe always fitting.

I’m afraid it’s late and you’ll have to spell out for me what you mean!

I’ve just googled them.
How embarrassing. Why does she think everyone is after her horrible husband? I HATE it when women think because you’re pleasant to their shovel faced OH, you must fancy them. Maybe she should write a song about him keeping his dick in his pants?

This.

Her version is an embarrassment.

Beyoncé specifically?
Why?
And what?

Strugglingtodomybest · 04/04/2024 15:34

I haven't heard the whole album but I can tell you that when her new song comes on the radio, I switch channels. I don't even have words for how bad it is.

Agree! Miley Cyrus' version is really good. She's great. I never got the Beyonce hype. But it doesn't seem OK to say that generally. .

enjoyingscience · 04/04/2024 15:39

I love it! Jolene is a weak point, but there are some gorgeous songs on there. I also
loved Renaissance, and wasn’t really excited about the ‘country’ concept, but it is a great album.

Singleandproud · 04/04/2024 15:44

There are a couple of songs on there I like, it doesn't scream country to me though although do like her gospel type sound in some of them.

What did shock me was after listening to 16 carriages I googled how old she was in Destiny's Child, I knew she was young although older than me by quite a few years and felt like a grown up. They were 17 when Bills, Bills, Bills came out - a fantastic song but what Bills is a 17 year old paying. How sexualised they were all dressed as well as other young female stars were is quite shocking to me now through adult eyes although I loved it and wanted to dress like them at the time.
