To Love Beyoncé's New Album?

I've never been a Beyoncé fan before and have never understood the hype surrounding her but I absolutely love her new Cowboy Carter album! Her voice sounds amazing! I've seen quite a bit of negative stuff online about her covering Jolene but aibu to love the album and think it's her best yet by far? I've got friends who are big fans of hers but say they much preferred Lemonade so am wondering if it's because it's so different that it's appealing to people who weren't Beyoncé fans before

I lost respect for her for miming the US national anthem at President Obama's inauguration and won't be listening to it. However, if you enjoy it, nothing wrong with that.

hangingonfordearlife1 · 04/04/2024 16:39

can't stand her and the lyrics to jolene are a joke when her husband looks like big momma as a bloke

Mummame2222 · 04/04/2024 16:40

It’s not her best work lyrically and musically. Her self titled album and Lemonade were exceptional pieces of work.

Which artists do you listen to?

Lots of artists lip-sync.

She could have had a sore throat that day and known her voice wasn't up to standard. It's still her voice and it's not like she could have rescheduled until she was better.

Big Momma 🤣🤣🤣

Remember when Solange was as in the lift hoofing Jay-Z in the chest and him and Beyoncé just stood there like a pair of lemons? What on Earth was that about

Not a big fan, don't get the hype over Texas- at all and don't think her Jolene cover comes even close to the original or then the Miley Cyrus version. I found the album a tad underwhelming to be honest.

iamwhatiam23 · 05/04/2024 01:04

I can't stand Beyonce but i like the Texas song, however she has absolutely slaughtered Jolene! Its bloody awful!

HRTQueen · 05/04/2024 01:08

I love the album I also love Lemonade and some of her other albums particularly the first one

my favourite tracks are Blackbird, Daughter, Alligator Tears and Ya Ya

I really like her take on Jolene but can’t get my head around her fighting off other women he isn’t worth it but it’s a song not her life (though I guess some truth in the lyrics)

I would love her to do a version of House of the Rising Sun as often sung by women too

I really like Americana music

I'm cynical but to me she's just targeting a different market for sales...

Yes, that much seems clear.

MrsCherryCrest · 05/04/2024 01:13

I thought it was pretty middle of the road and I really like a lot of her previous releases.

NickEccles · 05/04/2024 01:22

Hyped Up & has had her day! Terrible records now! Clown of a husband does her production no favours at all......& as for Jolene, surely no one can say that it's a good cover! Come on......

EverybodyLTB · 05/04/2024 10:31

I think Beyonce is a fabulous performer and have always rated her highly. Her concerts are incredible!

The new country album, though. Nah. Texas Hold ‘em was dreadful and like an AI bot had been asked to write a tacky country song. Jolene is a joke of a cover, and Jay Z has cheated repeatedly, so this whole ‘you won’t get him, he loves me too much’ is just embarrassing.

The rest is higher quality, I found the cover of Blackbird lovely. I found a love for country music on a US road trip, and it can be very soulful and well developed… Texas did not hit any kind of spot, apart from being catchy, but the other less played songs (so far) on the album have much more depth.

NickEccles · 05/04/2024 15:17

Of course there are those that like her - I love mn where interesting opinions are shared! I guess as a performer she is goodish but the records now are over hyped!

OhmygodDont · 05/04/2024 15:20

My radio gets as far as “this anit T” and it’s turned off and Jolene is just a joke.

Miley did Jolene well though. I like a bit of all music I’ll jump from Eminem to Morgan wallen with linked park lined up but I just cannot get behind those songs.

Nookable · 05/04/2024 16:02

I'm not a Beyonce fan but an a country music fan. I don't know if I've listened to the whole album yet but so far the standout ones I can remember are liking Blackbird and Cowboy Carter. Not a fan of American Requiem.

Jolene is fine musically but as others have said the lyrics warning another woman off her man are just a bit cringe. Especially when that man is Jay Z.

I feel like if she wanted to change the lyrics there are other ways she could have gone with it. Like telling Jolene she was welcome to the cheat. Or Diane by Cam is fun. That's inspired by Jolene and is basically the other woman telling her side of the story.

FrippEnos · 05/04/2024 19:29

I am more interested in the fall out when and if she doesn't get the country music award that she and some of her sycophants believe that she should get.

Her husband or cronies will jump on stage and have a public tantrum about it like it’s a completely reasonable or normal thing to do

Edited

Probably wasn't intended but I literally snorted laughing and almost woke my baby up at your 'hoofing in the chest' comment 😂

PicaK · 05/04/2024 22:09

I'm worried I'm racist because it feels like with this album it's the first time I've properly heard her voice - really heard the notes and the power and the depth. It's all seemed like surface noise before combined with shaking booty distraction. I need to find time to sit and listen to the whole album. I've found myself pondering over the new lyrics and whether they're modern or different. Do the old lyrics resonate to anyone anymore?
It's really interesting to be pulled in like this.

Grapewrath · 05/04/2024 22:11

The album is fairly good. I strongly dislike her cover of Jolene.Mileys was much better
Lemonade was a much better album imo

Grapewrath · 05/04/2024 22:13

Also Jolene is a bit cringe- nobody wants your man Beyoncé. Apart from maybe the police

DojaPhat · 06/04/2024 11:16

@YaMuvva She's generally disliked by particular type of people in an almost hateful way. It's not enough to just not consider her music 'your type of music' and move on - for them her status, music, stardom is something up for ridicule, bemusement and debasement. It's less that someone doesn't like her music, it's more about how they express that sentiment. Even the comment on 'she can keep her man.' It's to me rather gross, but not something particularly surprising.

I don’t hate Beyoncé or her music. Hate requires passion and deep feeling, it’s very close to love, and I don’t have those kind feelings for many people let alone a celebrity I don’t know.

But her music isn’t my type - so shoot me.

But to say people who aren’t fans of Beyoncé’s music are hateful and jealous is perhaps the most pathetic, hilarious, sycophantic nonsense I’ve read in a very long time, so thanks for the laugh 🤣

I sometimes imagine these overly passionate statements about celebrities are said with a wobbly bottom lip and wonder if the sycophants know that Beyonce isn’t gonna read it and she’s never gonna be your mate.

BTW the ‘she can keep her man’ comment is in DIRECT REPLY to HER (rather provocative) lyrics on Jolene. She has changed them to “you can’t keep my man” or some nonsense. Not a random dig at the woman. HTH.
