Sometimes they actually are outing. I went to a nightclub 300 miles from my home, in a piece of jewellery / kit made by my partner within his hobby. Someone recognised it on me and FaceTimed my partner saying we have your missus here and we will look after her for you mate.

I had believed there was some mumsnet rule whereby hobbies could not be identified! So you’re telling me that it’s just people choosing to be deeply mysterious about their hobby, their DH’s hobby, their DM’s hobby etc etc?

Taxidermy as an “outing” hobby made me laugh, probably because one of our sheds is filled with animals in various conditions. That poster said something that made me wonder if I knew her DH online.

I think hobbies are outing. Maybe not by themselves but if you have said you are a nurse, have 2 boys who are be 7 and 8, live in Liverpool, have a German shepherd and your DH is into Dungeons and Dragons or being the dame in pantomimes it may be the last piece of the jigsaw that makes someone suspect and search your posts to see if it is you.

I honestly think I see more posts complaining about outing hobbies than I do posts about outing hobbies
