Fibbing Delivery Driver

CocktailQueenie · 27/03/2024 07:12

Waited in all day for a delivery yesterday, then at 17.57hrs received a message saying 'sorry the driver missed me' and that I now must collect my parcel from a Co-op shop 3 miles away.

I have calmed down since last night but am so cross as I was in all day waiting, have checked Ring doorbell footage and no sign of anyone trying to deliver.

I have emailed the company I bought the products from to have a moan but not sure it will get me anywhere. Company was DPD. Anyone else had this problem? AIBU to expect delivery drivers to at least attempt a delivery? I suspect it just got late and they understandably wanted to get home.

I had this with amazon, at 8pm the other night.
Eventually got it yesterday.
Even though they said delivery attempted, noone rang the bell.

Cherrysoup · 27/03/2024 07:18

I had a message saying item delivered but no ring/knock. It had been left on the doorstep in full view of anyone passing by. Drives me nuts, just ring and go if the cars are there.

billyt · 27/03/2024 07:18

Yep, exact same thing. few months ago.

When I went to collect my parcel the shopkeeper was moaning as the (no) delivery guy had dumped over thrifty packages there.

Bet we soon have the 'but they get paid peanuts' brigade along soon.

A lot of them are just lazy bastards (I know not all)

Autumn1990 · 27/03/2024 07:19

I knew you were going to say dpd as I’ve had the same issues

CocktailQueenie · 27/03/2024 07:19

@patsy999 So annoying, there was absolutely no sign of a delivery driver. I have requested that they deliver today, other than that I might cut my nose off to spite my face and tell the selling company to refund me.

I know they are paid peanuts but just don't lie. The Co-op shops the parcel is at is miles away, there are two Co-ops before that shop!

I actually saw the delivery driver in the car park, thats what annoyed me even more admittedly there is at least 4 blocks of flats and it was dark.
So maybe he genuinely couldnt find me but that is what my phone number is for.

Theunamedcat · 27/03/2024 07:22

That's reminded me to flag my amazon driver again! For marking things "handed" to resident when he hasn't and dumping things on my doorstep when I have a safe space literally next to my front door if they are in a rush just put it there mark it appropriately on the app and we are good but telling amazon you have delivered it to me when you haven't is not on

meganorks · 27/03/2024 07:31

Yeah all the time. I think they've all stopped knocking as they can't be arsed to actually converse. Evri kept chucking a big, regular delivery over my fence when I was home. The company i order from has changed to DPD now. They must have had complaints.
DPD you can track. We once had something my husband was waiting for, obsessively checking the tracker. The van was in the local streets. My husband was sat by the window looking at the door. All of a sudden, update: we tried to deliver but no one was home.... He was in the wrong St when it said failed to deliver and it was a Friday afternoon, so I think he just sacked it off. Husband got on the phone to them to make sure it would get delivered but not till the next day.

JillyTheJinx · 27/03/2024 08:15

Didn't they send you the email and text with your allocated 1 hour delivery slot? I only ever order goods from companies that use DPD as a delivery option and in 18 years have never had a problem with them. Maybe I'm just lucky though.

Sparklesocks · 27/03/2024 08:17

I know they have really tight timings, I sometimes I wonder if when they get a bit behind (stuck in traffic etc) they mark a few as person not in to get them back on track.

FredaFox · 27/03/2024 08:23

I find dpd one of the best at my mums where I get must things delivered to as I live in a flat

Last week I made the mistake if having something sent to home, I followed the tracking, next minute it had been delivered to my building with my parcel thrown inside the door so anybody could have picked it up

Really depends on the area I think, all my mums couriers are good, including Evri

daffodilandtulip · 27/03/2024 08:27

Yes...they sent a picture of the local pub as "proof". Mostly though, they just dump it on the doorstep for you to trip over hours later, if it's not stolen.

Sunnysidegold · 27/03/2024 08:28

I am losing the will to live with stuff being chucked over the hedge into the garden or just flung up the driveway. We often get the "parcel handed to resident" but it's just been dumped. Annoying when it's wet and when someone could just lift it.

JungsWordTest · 27/03/2024 08:38

Unfortunately, if they don't lie they tend to lose their jobs. They work with near-impossible targets. I try to remind myself of this when a parcel is late or redirected.

PuppyMonkey · 27/03/2024 08:42

I also find DPD pretty good, their communication is excellent. You can literally track them till they get to your house. We have a guy called Loveneet who’s always the driver, he’s a marvel of efficiency.Grin

Ezzee · 27/03/2024 08:50

The Yodel driver here is absolutely awful, I caught him sat outside my house after having a notification that that I wasn't in, I have 40 steps up to my house and I imagine he just couldn't be bothered.
I ran (carefully) down the steps, knocked on his car window for my parcel and he said too late love can't give it to you now as I've marked it for return.
Formal complaint made etc and nothing, he now will not leave my parcel unless someone answers the door.... complete wanker!

Deathbyfluffy · 27/03/2024 08:55

DPD are absolutely dreadful, I actively avoid companies that use them now.
Lying about not being in, a call centre full of staff who can’t really do anything and drivers on such a strict timetable they ‘drop and run’ leaving parcels in full view of the street.

Oh I get this all the time with Amazon. I've got an old bin cupboard next to front door that is my safe space but the wankers always leave it on doorstep for anyone to rob. Yeah, taking a picture of it outside my closed front door is not proof of delivery 🙄

Bramshott · 27/03/2024 09:18

I think they do this if they run out of time.

thecanadianloon · 27/03/2024 10:15

DPD were a bit rubbish as saying 'sorry we missed you....'
But our new DPD driver is ace and normally always delivers.

Hannahthepink · 27/03/2024 11:27

I had this with DPD, I was literally sitting by the window waiting for my new phone to be delivered... get the text that there was nobody there so it has been delivered to the co-op. I rang them repeatedly to no avail, I had to collect from the co-op the next day.
Basically I was told that at the end of the driver's shift they just do this with all the packages left. I was so peeved as I'd spent £7 on next-day delivery!

CocktailQueenie · 27/03/2024 14:41

I've had a reply from the selling company to say that if I don't collect the parcel in 7 days then it will eventually be sent to me but that it is best if I collect it. I am making a stand out of principle and have told them I will wait until it is delivered, the shop is too far away to walk and there is no parking nearby.

For context, my front door is 5 metres from the kerb and drivers here can park outside so no excuse not to deliver.

Katemax82 · 27/03/2024 16:06

Yes! My dpd will just send my parcels to the nearest sainsburys (6 fucking miles away!!) And you can't seem to have a go at anyone about it! What if you couldn't get to said shop to collect the parcel?

CocktailQueenie · 27/03/2024 19:36

@Katemax82 Yes, I have on/off mobility issues and presently would not be able to collect. Am not entitled to blue badge as sometimes I am able - that's another thread!
