Fibbing Delivery Driver

CocktailQueenie · 27/03/2024 07:12

Waited in all day for a delivery yesterday, then at 17.57hrs received a message saying 'sorry the driver missed me' and that I now must collect my parcel from a Co-op shop 3 miles away.

I have calmed down since last night but am so cross as I was in all day waiting, have checked Ring doorbell footage and no sign of anyone trying to deliver.

I have emailed the company I bought the products from to have a moan but not sure it will get me anywhere. Company was DPD. Anyone else had this problem? AIBU to expect delivery drivers to at least attempt a delivery? I suspect it just got late and they understandably wanted to get home.

Amazon have become horrendous for dumping stuff on doorstep, even if your in. I've only realised a couple delivers when I've seen amazon van driving off

Raizin · 30/03/2024 19:47

Yes it's happened with Evri, Amazon and DPD in the past and the parcel came the following day.

It's annoying AF but there's nothing you can do about it.

Just got home when an amazon driver pulled up behind me, chucked a parcel at my neighbours front door and drove off. Didnt ring the bell or anything, luckily it wasnt breakable as he really did chuck it. We front straight onto the street so I picked it up to take it in for them as it wouldnt have been there 5 minutes later. Neighbour came home and I took it round, he hadnt had a notification that it had been delivered or anything. Checked his Ring and saw it all. Made a fuss but nothing was done afaik.

These stories are partly the reason we got a Ring doorbell. There is almost always someone home and we have a loud dog who barks if anyone comes up the drive. Usually Evri are ok here but had a delivery recently where driver chucked the parcel over our side gate before I could answer the door (must have been only 5-10 seconds), I said hi to them but they replied then just ran off.

Some drivers at DPD have some cheek - have literally driven past our house at full speed and seconds later reported sorry we weren’t in when they knocked. The guy didn’t even stop the van to attempt the delivery!!!

TheHateIsNotGood · 30/03/2024 21:57

It's probably the limited options they are given on their 'handsets'; there probably isn't an option to say they were given too many deliveries to physically get round them all, so tick the box stating 'delivery attempted'.

Whilst I do sympathise OP, all this delivery of items really does make our lives so much easier and generally works really well and I live in a very 'awkward' road - terrain, tight squeeze, dead ends, potholes, lack of temp parking, wierd numbering....I am forever grateful when my packages arrive and take in for neighbours and assist any delivery driver with their despair.

I've had issues with my amazon deliveries. It's usually non English readers.
I have specific delivery instructions and a safe space. Bang loudly on my door, give me a chance to get there.
Last week I had a delivered message telling me that it'd been handed to a receptionist and left at my back door because my safe space wasn't available. I was home at the time. I have neither backdoor nor receptionist because I live in a flat above a shop.
Amazon are good at refunding if you don't receive/can't find your parcel. I re ordered the item and got it.
2 days after that I get a message from the shop below telling me they have my parcel. So my local charity shop got a brand new unopened item to sell.

This is why I use amazon lockers.

Started using them when I was working 60+ hours a week, could pick it up at any time. But now I use them because it means actually receiving the item instead of it being broken, nicked or just not delivered!

I had similar before with dpd. I was at home during my 1 hour time slot and towards the end get a notification saying they tried delivering my parcel but no one was in. I was confused as no one had knocked on the door. So I checked my security cameras which showed they had not just attempted to deliver it then but found that they tried delivering nearly 2 hours before my delivery slot whilst I was out! So they arrived early (unheard of I know) and then purposely waited to scan the parcel until within the time slot!! Totally deceitful!! What was more annoying is I had got home only about 5 minutes after their delivery attempt!

Lelliekellie · 31/03/2024 09:29

@CocktailQueenie This has happened to me before and I asked the driver why when he delivered it the next day.

He was apologetic and said they only get a specific window to deliver in and if they miss it (traffic/late etc) then it marks it as undelivered and they have to take it back to depot. They tend to mark it as missed themselves when they are going to miss the window to keep it on the van/with them and deliver next day. I also know he said they only get paid for the parcels they deliver so taking it back to depot would be a pain as someone else would be allocated the parcel etc.

CocktailQueenie · 31/03/2024 10:44

@Lelliekellie The message said driver had delivered it to the shop, not taken back to the depot? Maybe they get a fee still for that? Anyway, hopefully my parcel will be delivered next week. Out of principle and also mobility issues not collecting, however I would if there was nearby parking.

DPD always try and deliver to a house 3 houses away instead of me despite me adding a picture of my house a pin drop and a description to my DPD profile that apparently the driver can see

They're known in my house as Despicable Parcel Delivery

I had this exact issue with dpd. Ordered an iPad for my daughter for Christmas which was to be delivered on December 23, sat in all day waiting for it and at 5:45pm got a notification that delivery had been attempted and nobody was home. Checked ring camera and nobody had even drove by my house for hours. It was too late to contact DPD so I had to wait until December 28 for the delivery, I made a complaint to DPD when they reopened but nothing came of it.

Happyasapiginmuck1 · 01/04/2024 15:30

We seem to have an unofficial network with our surrounding neighbours that we take parcels in for each other if we are in and they aren't and vice versa. Very rare that we end up having to go to pick anything up.

Wotsitoverthere · 01/04/2024 16:51

I've had this happen with Amazon. We lived in a terrace on the main road and I tracked them drive straight past and mark it as "delivery attempted". They do it when they are too busy to save time.
