A woman has posted the following question on a public Facebook page of holiday area I visit, so Im a member of the group. Lots of people ask for advice on restaurants etc on there.

'We’re coming down next week and would like to take our daughter shopping for some new lingerie/underwear - is there anywhere within say 30-45 mins we could take her?
Thanks'

Am I wrong to actually find this rather disturbing and strange? It's the use of the word lingerie in relation to the daughter that I find odd. Or maybe I'm wrong and it's quite a normal thing to do. But why post on a public forum?. As lots of people pointed out on her post she could just google!

Grim

DonnaBanana · 25/03/2024 10:39

It’s a weird question, also because if they’re on holiday why would they want to go another 45 minutes away to buy some underwear?? Just get it at Victoria Secret or wherever at a shopping centre on the way. Very weird question

Louu247 · 25/03/2024 10:40

Very strange

KreedKafer · 25/03/2024 10:42

It sounds to me like someone with a fetish trying to get people to indulge their fantasy, rather than a genuine question.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 25/03/2024 10:43

Lingerie is the correct term for underwear and some people may prefer it to underwear/bras/knickers. It's just the fact that it now has connotations of "sexy lingerie". Lots of sites called it Lingerie

It's a little weird to go on holiday and then go underwear shopping but maybe it's just weirdly worded?

RaininSummer · 25/03/2024 10:44

Bit odd but maybe someone can just link to the nearest Primark or M and S

cuckyplunt · 25/03/2024 10:45

Just ref your nearest M&S, good luck to anyone getting off on that.

Movinghouseatlast · 25/03/2024 10:47

The woman lives in a major city and is going on holiday to a tiny village. The nearest M and S is a 50 minute drive away. Surely you would just google though?

Needmorelego · 25/03/2024 10:49

The daughter could be 45 years old and wants them for her wedding?
Or it's a creepy fetish thing.
Who knows?

ginasevern · 25/03/2024 10:52

If she lives in a major city then why not buy the underwear before the holiday. Who wants to drive 50 minute to buy underwear on holiday? Nah, I reckon this is a fetish thing.

WandaWonder · 25/03/2024 10:59

Very stranger but then no stranger than you asking, Do you honestly think it's OK really?

I agree.

It will probably be some hairy handed bloke in his Mums basement
Dont engage with it

Just ref your nearest M&S, good luck to anyone getting off on that.

There's a website where men talk about precisely that, up to and including wanking on M&S 'lingerie' and putting it back on the rails for women to find, for extra fetish thrills. These men get off just thinking about this stuff, or talking about it online. Roping in unsuspecting women and girls to their fetish worlds is hitting the jackpot.

M&S has been been made aware of this website and still won't sort its changing room policy out. I won't buy clothes there.

There is nothing that some men won't do for thrills, and it's not as rare as some people seem to think.

No, and I said I don't think it's OK. I find it odd and disturbing as I said.

But there are replies here implying they think it's OK aren't there? Saying the word lingerie is just a word for underwear, tell her to go to M and S. She's also had replies on Facebook telling her to go to x y z shops.

Talking on a public Facebook page about going shopping for your daughter's lingerie = weird.

Living in a major city, but planning to shop for lingerie while on holiday in a tiny village = weird.

Somebody is getting off on this, and probably hoping people start sharing their lingerie-shopping experiences.

My thoughts exactly.

Oh my goodness, I'm in this group and have been thinking about that post ever since it appeared last night!! SO weird!! She's got 44 responses now, most people also agreeing it's very strange/uncomfortable!!

I'm so glad you said that! That's why I posted really, I keep thinking about it. I didn't put that as I knew I'd get people accusing me of being weird- already had one person accusing me of that!

She is definitely not a man, so I just keep thinking is there some quite bizarre thing with the daughter

OP posts:
Polominty · 25/03/2024 11:57

Probably a 6 ft tall “woman” with a beard looking for somewhere discreet ( not used to this kind of client) to prance around trying on all the underwear.

Nicebloomers · 25/03/2024 12:00

Surely the mark of a woman going on holiday is to panic buy and pack 34 pairs of knickers ‘just in case’ so why someone would need to purchase more once on holiday strikes me as suspect.

PerfectTravelTote · 25/03/2024 12:02

Is it code for something?

It's such a weird question that it makes me think it's not what they're actually asking.

Nandosplease · 25/03/2024 12:08

You're right that I'm confident she is a woman and definitely doesn't appear to be a random troll, I went down a bit of a rabbithole looking at previous posts and her family visited the village a few years ago and have posted several 'normal' questions before about places to eat, where's showing the rugby etc but this is just such a weird question! 😂Even without the use of the word 'lingerie' who goes on holiday from a big city to this teeny village needing to buy underwear of any kind?! Just grab something before you go surely?!

LakeTiticaca · 25/03/2024 12:35

Very strange. Just buy your new keks before you go!!
